Are there other people who have downgraded (like me)?
Surely not every iPhone ownership history is linear
Mines usually goes forwards and I never go backwards.

Usually, my old iPhones are backed up, reset and given away to a family member once I set up a new iPhone every upgrade.

The only one that I still kept is the red iPhone 7. Has a lot of photos and videos of my high school experience and my nan’s photos.

2017 iPhone SE 1st Gen
2019 iPhone 11
2020 iPhone SE 1st Gen
2022 iPhone 4
2023 iPhone 15
2024 iPhone 6S+
2025 iPhone 15

Battery's usually crap on older models already. Plus you can't restore a backup from newer iOS to older.

The iPhone 4 wouldn't even work on US networks in 2022 due to the 3G shutdown. I think T-Mobile still had 2G at that point but who knows what their coverage is like on 2G and you're practically limited to just phone calls and messaging due to slow internet speed.

First iPhone, after having Blackberry for ages, was the iPhone 5 in white. Then:

iPhone 6 Plus in gold
iPhone 7 Plus in gold
iPhone 12 mini in black
iPhone 13 mini in pink
iPhone 15 Pro Max in natural titanium (current phone)

I had a few phones in between, but those are the iPhones. I also own an iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4, though I got those many years after their release just for fun because I like their design and the old iOS experience.

I never knew Samsung made a Nexus phone, it looks cool! I remember the Nexus 4 and how clean and pretty the flat glass back looked. The RAZR/KRZR phones were out when I was a bit too young for a phone myself but my cousin had both the RAZR and KRZR back in the day and I remember how obsessed I was with their look. Even now they're such pretty looking flip phones, including the first gen "modern" RAZR.

I think my overall favorite phone is a tie between the Z Fold 7 and the X. Both phones felt futuristic, like they were a leap in engineering and design from the norm. My most indestructible is probably the Nokia.

There was the Samsung Nexus S and Samsung Galaxy Nexus. I had both and they were also how I learned that OLED screens gave me migraines.

Yeah, the galaxy nexus was a great phone. It was the first smartphone that I really tracked the release of and got myself hyped up before the launch. I think there were mixed reviews, but I liked it.

From last year's thread:

I've not had too many iPhones:

3G (2008) - Queued for this one (the first one wasn't released in Norway until late, so I waited for the second one).

4S (2011) - This was a solid phone, and - along side the 11 pro - my all time favourite.

6 (2014) - This one I don't really remember, cannot have been very good since I upgraded after just 2 year?

7 plus (2016) - This is my biggest regret. Never became comfortable with the plus size.

11 pro (2019) - First one with a really good camera. Possibly my favourite, ever. Never had issues with battery life.

15 pro (2023) - Not too happy with this one. It's ok, but the camera isn't noticeably better than the 11 pro, in most cases.

Bonus: Me in the iPhone queue in Bergen in 2008 (from some newspaper at the time) to get the 3G:

Still has not overly happy with the 15 pro, it just never "sparked joy", but I have managed to resist the temptation to upgrade it, both to last year's 16 pro and this year's 17 pro.

Next year, though... with rumors of an even better camera system, including variable aperture, I'll probably cave and upgrade...

These are the ones that I actually used for an extended period of time, though I tried a few other models over the years without keeping them (bold are favorites):

Xs
11 Pro (probably all time favorite)

I don't upgrade terribly often, and I've thoroughly used and enjoyed the phones I've had. Since the SE1 --> 13 mini upgrade, my old main phone becomes my main work phone, so currently the 15 Pro is my main personal device and the 13 mini is my main work phone.

iPhone 6S+ - Gold
iPhone 11 Pro - Green
iPhone 12 Mini - Blue
iPhone 13 Mini - White
iPhone 14 Pro - Black
iPhone 17 Pro Max - Blue

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Minis were my favorites up to the point of the 13 Mini, due to pocketability and ease of one-handed use. But I was traveling quite a bit at the time, and the battery life was never up to par. Neither were the cameras.

I was blown away by how amazing the iPhone 14 Pro was. I had it for 3 years, and never had one single problem. The 17 Pro Max, however, with an ultra slim Pitaka case, is my absolute favorite of all time. This phone is absolutely amazing in every way (except for Siri). I hope the upcoming updates to iOS 26 will fix Siri. She's awful - barely functional.

* You always remember your first. And Apple edged those who wanted the iPhone 4 in white by delaying it a whole year. Yeah, all-time favorite. Worth the wait.

EDIT: I love when the editor ignores my carefully constructed spaces.
