If you look at the actual patent document and scroll down to the bottom where it says images A layout of the home screen becomes visible and you can look at some of the new things on the new iPhone. I know this website captured the video conferencing application, the GPS application, and some of the other new applications. One that I noticed that was not mentioend, was a Widget Module. This lies outside the widgets we have now (such as maps and weather), it is called the Widget Creator Module. This leads me to believe that somehow you will be able to create new widgets on the phone itself or import the ones you made on the SDK. In addition to the Widget Creator Module there will also be a new dictionary widget available.

Widget Creator Module:
"...the widget creator module 150 may be used by a user to create widgets (e.g., turning a user-specified portion of a web page into a widget)." quoted directly from the document, it sounds like that thing that's on Leopard's safari browser, I forgot what it's called I think it's WebClip? Yeah, I think that's what this Widget Creator Module is...

Having seen the patents flowing out of Apple, do Microsoft have any equivalents (I can't be arsed to sift through the website - maybe someone has already!)

Just thinking about that wonderful device that Steve Billballgates showed us last week - basically a big iphone running Windows...

"...and boy have we patented it.."

Some companies will do anything to claim that they're still viable players in the tech arena. Desperation seems to be the motivating force there.

I hope they keep the metal back but it seems everything is pointing towards a black and/or white back.

I'm tellin you guys . . heads up. I think we are going to start seeing some great things.

when they say "instant messaging application" are they talking about the one they mentioned for the application store hosted by aol or an ichat application? i would much rather have a first party app rather than third party...of course! :D

*crosses fingers for ichat that stays connected while the phone is in sleep mode as the sidekick does*

i had a sidekick and that's the ONLY thing i miss to be honest. other than that i could careless about the thing.

3G confirmed

W-CDMA and HSDPA are 3G networks!!!!

i'm sorry...how is that link relevant to my post?

I think you meant to say that you couldn't care less.

I didn't want to post the chart again because I didn't want to derail this thread too and start this whole discussion again, but it appears you are confused.

W-CDMA and HSDPA are 3G networks!!!!

This Quote talks about Wireless-N.

I know this is just a patent, but maybe we will also get Wireless-N. Might as well just through in the Bathroom and laundry sinks alongside the kitchen sink.

This was a pain to carry around...

...But no one seemed to mind

Its that thing that finished of the old guy, sad story....

I hope they keep the metal back but it seems everything is pointing towards a black and/or white back.

I hope they dump the metal back, yes it looks amazing but its terrible for reception.

With the metal gone and it replaced with that zirconia stuff some of the other members were talking about it would be brilliant as the reception would be far far better. Simply covering the bottom plastic section on the iPhone can stop it from getting a network signal sometimes!!

it also quotes Wi-Max, which is obviously not going to be on this iPhone, so I'm afraid that just because a feature is patented doesn't mean that it will be present on the iPhone released on monday

Stop crushing our dreams!

WiMax on the iPhone! Woo!

One day though, one day it will make an appearence.

We are all killing ourselves waiting for Monday but just think whats in store further in the future for the iPhone

?? Man, what did that guy do to his rear-view mirror??!!!

"Yeah, sorry I reversed into your brand new car - I was too busy reading the hype about the new 3G iphone on MacRumors..."

Dont worry, he isnt so bothered about his car, if the new iPhone doesnt come out soon its going to be a write off!!

Maybe a Sprint/Verizon version in the works??!!??

I just had a thought...that "Optical Sensor" might just be the Ambient light sensor.

In some embodiments, an optical sensor is located on the front of the device so that the user's image may be obtained for videoconferencing while the user views the other video conference participants on the touch screen display.

Already posted in this thread, IIRC.

at&t

All this talk about the iphone is great. The new features should be rather amazing, but no one seems to be talking about AT&T. Suppose we get all this cool stuff and suddenly the "data" is no longer unlimited? Then all this will be pointless cause 50% of us wont get involved in a higher plan. Here's to no changes in plans from AT&T with this new phone!! That would really suck.

I must admit, that's my worries about O2 here in the UK too. I could just about justify (and afford) the £35 a month plan - as the all inclusive data makes it a decent deal. I wouldn't want to pay higher.

There was talk of o2 doing a £269 pay-as-you-go iPhone or a £100 contract one.

Personally, I am not going to be happy until they add the frozen yogurt maker to the iPhone. ;-)

They would not remove the unlimited data from the iPhone plan, the iPhone is constantly using the internet to check for e-mail updates, etc. even when in sleep mode. Many people have had att bills for thousands of dollars because they went traveling (outside of att's network) and since the iPhone is constantly accessing the internet, they were charged outrageous amounts since they didn't have unlimited roaming data. The iPhone will remain on unlimited data plans only.
