Great....Agreed....Excited....but.......

All this stuff sounds delicious!! But, will this iPhone on Monday finally include Copy and Paste???

There's always one......:D

And that reminds me, although all this stuff sounds great for personal use, I really need to be able to make notes and edit spreadsheet/word processing docs directly please. Need to replace my iPaq!

b) to offer a discount OF ANY KIND...ON ANY OF THEIR PRODUCTS...IN THE ENTIRE HISTORY of the freakin' company!!

Besides, how would that work anyway (forgive my ignorance)? If AT&T is **gasp** planning to offer a subsidy on the phone if purchased and activated through them who would ever be foolish enough to buy it directly from an Apple store at full retail price?? And again I'm sure there's an easy and obvious answer to this but the common sense of it all escapes me at the moment!

This has been discussed a lot. Seems like a strategy to fight unlocking phones from ATT. Allowing you to buy the iPhone at an amazingly attractive price (from Apple Store or ATT), IF you sign a contract and activate the phone (thru iTunes of course not in store). Then they'll send you a rebate. That could certainly be a big enough reason for Apple to allow something they've never done before.

Buy iPhone at full price at either Apple Store or ATT, activate it on iTunes and receive awesome rebate.

The process will probably be far more slick than this though.

According to a article on Stuff.tv, the new iPhone could be released on 8th August 2008 on o2 in the UK. Thats AGES away!

http://stuff.tv/News/UK-3G-iPhone-in-August/10157/

That's based on what an o2 store employee said.. like they'd know anything at all. Nobody knows the official release dates *anywhere* yet - it's all speculation (as is the WWDC announcement, but I think there would be riots in the streets if they didn't announce there after all the expectation).

Releasing that late would mean we'd buy imports from other european countries (on sale in every poky mobile phone shop within days of course) that release before us. Or even from the US - although that's subject to import duty so not as good a place to buy from.

Several EU carriers have hinted at a late june/early july release date. Leaving the UK until months after that wouldn't make sense.

This is Genius. Steve planned the releases out so perfectly, think about it. The original iPhone was so revolutionary that everyone had to have it, but some key features were left out. Now, a year later, even though the buzz from the last model is still in full swing, Apple will leap ahead of the competition and release the most amazing device, truly revolutionary. This IS the Future. GPS??! Video Conferencing?! phone, INTERNET, im, EVERYTHING!
and all on the most beautiful and elegantly easy to use phone GUI, blows competing OS's out of the water, even the new HTC with the multitouch is awkward, the iPhone is a truly revolutionary device, and Steve Jobs is not only a genius but a visionary.

Time to begin the Longest Four Days ever. i just ordered a new stereo for my car with the best iPod integration Alpine iDA-x100, and it's coming tomorrow, 10 minutes ago I was excited about that, but now forget that I think I'm actually physically incapable of waiting for this device!
You're sick :p

I don't think all of this is going to show up on Monday. (would be cool if it did though) I know companies always file patents for stuff but we never see half of it.

Also, how much will the battery suffer if you've got 3G + wifi + video conferencing + GPS + whatever else? Didn't Jobs say battery life was a big priority (hence the exclusion of 3G for awhile)?

Battery won't suffer at all if you don't use the features like video conferencing or Wifi. The GPS receiver can be shut off for all but the short time you need it. If you are using it for some future driving directions app, It will be in you car charging most likely. And it looks like you can also shut off 3G and have the phone revert to GSM/EDGE for extended talk/data time.

It seems the video conferencing is the ONLY thing the original version of the iPhone won't be able to do... the rest can come in a software update. I suppose it might be able to perform video conferencing, but it would be very awkward to hold the phone backwards without being able to see yourself (not to mention the trouble the EDGE would have with video)...

Things that software can't bring to the original iPhone:

* Video conferencing (no front camera)
* Video recording (It looks like the camera/media hardware is literally incapable of recording video at a decent framerate and quality level)
* Video MMS (see above)
* GPS (cell tower triangulation / WifI tower is much too inaccurate for driving directions, etc. Also only works in certain locations.)
* 3G UMTS/HSPA data connection

I was thinking of not getting a 3G iPhone but if all of this comes true then I may reconsider... Ahh, who am I kidding, iPhone FTW! :p

iHate to burst your bubble about that "Optical Sensor" but its not a video camera its just to sense when the screen brightness needs to be adjusted...

In some embodiments, an optical sensor is located on the front of the device so that the user's image may be obtained for videoconferencing while the user views the other video conference participants on the touch screen display.

The current phone 'can' do video recording. I've done it on mine.

Why does everyone find this so hard to believe. Nokia and other companies have been doing this for ages and the batterey life is just fine on those handsets. I have great expectations! Hope i'm not let down.

yeah - Nokia sorted out battery life perfectly with my N95. In fact, I'm typing this on it now!! Problem is, if I actually USE the phone for anything it just eats the battery and shuts down without wa

YOU ARE A GENIUS!:D:D:D:D:D

Thats a good point.

Though my current mobile contract runs out on the 10th August - that would at least force me to wait out my contract :D

Yeah, standard phone features there. Of course the software implementing and joining them will be really amazing and intuitive, unlike on all the other phones that have implemented them (some for years).

Clearly the .Mac replacement service will incorporate blogging software at the very least.

My contract has expired ages ago :)

Orange Switzerland. Contract has expired ages ago, because I didn't purchase any new subsidized phone, I went for an iPhone unlocked. I only hope they will figure out a way to unlock 2.0 rapidly. So I can upgrade mine and then sell it and get a 2.0 3G iPhone basically for free (with subsidies).

A side note: personally I don't like the black design of the "rumored" iPhone I have seen in pics all over the web. Just plain ugly.

A second side note: I have to purchase a new notebook, so I hope the new MBPs don't take forever to be announced (how cool would it be if they were announced at WWDC). A Mac at the office broke, my colleague would happily take my MB C2D 2Ghz 2GB RAM (10.5.2), so I can finally purchase a 17" MBP (or even with a slightly bigger screen if it comes). But I really cannot wait much longer than next week. I'll just keep my fingers crossed...

Why did this have to be revealed

I've been needing an iPhone for almost 2 years now, and I have been so excited for the new one, the only new feature that i really care about is Stereo Bluetooth. This new information has given me the highest of expectations, and has made the next 3 days exponentially more unbearable than if hadn't known all of these things. That being said, this is Awesome!!!!!!! for months we've been drooling and analyzing blurry photos, case designs with a bigger slot suggesting a front facing camera is the farthest we've come. and now This?! This is like the holy grail of leaked information, except a video of the actual 3G iPhone of course, quite an amazing day on macrumors if you ask me!

Microsoft Iphone - err sorry ShmiPhone

Having seen the patents flowing out of Apple, do Microsoft have any equivalents (I can't be arsed to sift through the website - maybe someone has already!)

Just thinking about that wonderful device that Steve Billballgates showed us last week - basically a big iphone running Windows...

"...and boy have we patented it.."

You guys weren't even a country then, so it wasn't technically "Canada" that burned the White House, it was the British and their Canadian colonies.

That would be like saying the USA won the French and Indian War.

And you're not "much bigger". 60,000 square miles. That's like the size of Wisconsin. Besides, most of that land is uninhabited cold wilderness.

Actually, it wasn't even the colonies. It was British soldiers during the war of 1812 after we burned down Canada's parliament buildings.

You won't like us when we're angry, Canada. :) We'll take hockey fans and leave the rest!

Seeing and handling a hot, new product months before its release can really get the adrenaline going. I just saw and held the newest version of the iPhone.

These new iPhones are being assembled just minutes from my office. As there had been quite a bit of activity there these past few weeks, I knew something big was cooking. Playing investigator reporter, I searched on line and found this in a Business Week article - "With less than two months to go before Steve Jobs takes the stage at Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference, where he's expected to unveil a new iPhone, ...." One can only conclude, iPhone is definitely coming this summer.

A few days ago, two businessmen made an appointment to visit me at my factory. They were coming in with the new, top secret iPhone which is supposed to be released this summer. When they arrived, they immediately started talking about my factory making silicone and crystal iPod and iPhone cases. One of the men reached into his pocket and showed me an iPhone shell. It looked exactly like my iPhone, but when I turned it over, I noticed that the metal backing had been replaced by a white plastic back. They told me there would be two models - one with the white back and one with a black back. The first production would be apparently 20,000,000 plus units. That's double from their first iPhone. This newer iPhone seems thinner and the back is slightly concave.

I was also informed that as well as the iPhone, a new Nano and Touch would be released at the same time. I will keep you posted.

I really can't see them using plastic. It may look like plastic, but actually using it just seems so busch league.

I think that site is probably just fishing for hits...

I call BS on this guy. Although I do believe the pictures we've been seeing are accurate, for shape/size, we can't tell what the material is, but guaranteed it won't be crappy plastic.
