They really need to make a way to allow disk usage and have a document explorer app or something. I have work related pdf I would like to put on and be able to access. There has to be a better way instead of emailing them to yourself. They should add a file sync to iTunes.

I'm most interested in the flash issue? Does safari has it?
Many Web 2.0 depends on Flash :(

Here is another thing that would be nice. Different mail check times per account. I would like to have the business account checked every x minutes and home every x hours and my wife's manually. Right now there is one setting for all mail accounts.

Need a way to edit notes on computer and sync them. I have a lot of notes I that would be easier to type and sync them then type them on the iphone.

Unlimited is supposed to be UNLIMITED!!!!!

The dictionary has a different definition of "unlimited" from what AT&T has if an earlier post is correct about the additional charges and that the plan does not include the uploading and downloading of videos. Does AT&T and Apple figure us for fools? There are going to be a lot of upset iPhone owners and bad press if there are hidden charges left and right.

Let's hope the earlier post is not true.

Someone, please please please.

Remove SIM CARD and see if it works without the SIM Card. This after activation

Please
No. The SIM card must be installed, like any phone. But after the SIM is activated, the iPhone will continue to work unless they've done something weird. So if you were to cancel your service on, say, the 15th day, you'd have no cancellation fee and be "stuck" with the iPhone, which would boot up and work, but not place any non-911 calls or connect to anything other than BT/WiFi. Seems like an expensive way to get an iPod, but if you really wanted to...

I actually READ the "conditions" he's talking about, and the extra 50 cents per message over 300kb is for messages places INTERNATIONALLY.

Just got off the phone with Apple

Spoke to a very nice guy after a very short wait. However if u wish to order your iphone through apple store prepare to wait 4 freakin weeks for dlivery! What 4 weeks? He also told me the store locations were running out of stock. So if u plan to get 1 this weekend I would rush to an AT&T store.

Google Docs came up fine, but when I went to load a document, Safari crashed. Safari crashed one other time when trying to load one of the iPhone videos (linked from the "Thank you for registering your iPhone email" Apple sent me). Interestingly, when I synced after that, iTunes recognized the that Safari had crashed previously and asked me if I wanted to send diagnostic info to Apple. I looked at the crash log and it's clear that the iPhone is running a version of OS X (with various familiar Cocoa frameworks, including Core Video).

The only other problem I've run into is that iPod reliably crashes while using Safari. Not consistently timewise, but reliably. Sometimes it takes a few songs, sometimes it's after a few seconds. Anyway, probably a minor bug that will be fixed in a software update. Anyone else seeing this?

All in all, I'm more impressed than I ever have been with a new gadget, and I've had a lot of them.

language input?

Hi there.

Just want to confirm that the iPhone keyboard can only handle english input? No accent marks for european languages? no korean, chinese, japanese?

Has anyone tried to connect it to multiple computers? I doubt it would work, but I would really like to sync it with my home mac to get photos/music/video, and with my work pc to get contacts/calendar/e-mail.

Long shot, but has anyone tried this? Thanks!

ALL OF YOU: STOP ASKING ABOUT THE SAME SIM CARD QUESTIONS. Seriously, you don't know what you're talking about, and should read before you ask.

Nall: the only things that can fit on a sim card are a few contacts (about 99), a few sms (a few dozen), and your phone number. Unlikely that iPhone stores anything other than your name and number on the sim card. No you will not be able to take your iPhone info and magically make it appear on your old Nokia.

The rest of you: the phone's are locked, they require activation to function as anything more than expensive metal and plastic. No one has unlocked them yet. They will not work on T-Mobile, and you foreign users need to think before buying them now, they will NOT WORK for you until some clever hacking/unlocking takes place (you do not have AT&T in your country). This will probably take a while unless it gets hacked like the Apple TV. It will be more painful to do that, because your warranty may be voided easily, and you will not likely get software updates.

Don't mean to discourage anyone from asking questions and learning more, but please, ask some original questions, and check to see if it has been answered already before you post. Let's make progress instead of unnecessary redundancy.

the phone definately works without a sim card after you activate. Well at least the wifi and safari. I assume everything else works too.

One thing i was wondering about the SMS feature is:

Say i have a long standing friend and have built up a large SMS chat thing then I want to delete a couple of individual texts and replies from that discussion is that possible or do I have to wipe the entire SMS chat record.

This wasn't what I was asking about; I don't really care about any of those things. I occasionally need features that the iPhone does not currently provide (shocking, I know), and wanted to make sure I could temporarily swap the SIM card into another Cingular/AT&T phone and use my voice and data service there. That's all.

I went to the local store and the Apple (not AT&T) employee there told me that was not at all possible, which I suspected was BS -- when I got back, MacRumors had the link to the manual, which confirms you can switch out the SIM and gives directions on how (atleast for voice, anyway. No word on whether the iPhone data plan has different settings.) For reference, when I went back later, an AT&T employee told me the iPhone's SIM can be used in another phone, but not vice versa.

I like Apple's products, but I'm not going to get another line just for the privilege of using an iPhone. I realize this is not what most other people posting about SIM cards want to know, but honestly, whether my address book and other such stuff carries over between phones does not really matter to me.

Are there ways to input non-Roman texts (particularly Japanese)?

All the reports I have indicate that the user interface and input in this version are English only.

A workaround might be a webpage with some kind of javascript keyboard, but with no copy/paste available the output would have to be used directly by the page.

Someone answered part of my question (can you turn the iPhone clockwise as well as counter clockwise to get landscape either way - yes) but I was wondering, what happens if you turn it 180, so it's upside down, does the screen turn all the way round with it?
Also, what happens if you "roll" the phone around the X axis, how does the transition effects work in that scenario? Does it jus "snap to" the correct orientation, or do they have the gaphical transition set up to follow correctly and 3D turning, rotating twiting action?

I don't have the phone, but have reports from others that input is ASCII English only. The User Guide also has no indication that anything else is possible.

In landscape mode you can rotate 180° and the iPhone will animate to right the image. In portrait mode the Home button has to be on the bottom.

It will properly rotate the image when flipped 180 on the x axis. ie, so someone facing you can see it. No matter what direction you turn it, the web page will rotate toward the home button. So no viewing it upside down.

I imagine that other input methods were not a high priority for an initial US release. I would expect the phone to get most (if not all) of the Mac OS X input methods as it gets released around the rest of the World.

What functionality does iTunes 7.3 give the iPhone?

Are you able to freely upload ring tones to your iPhone?

How long until the screen gets annoying due to finger prints - or does the screen 'hide' finger prints well?
