Safari and GAMES should be added

I don't watch much TV so a DVR isn't a big need for me but if Apple added Safari to :apple:TV I would buy one tomorrow and if they added some games I would buy one today.

I'm not a big gamer but my kids would love it. And it'd be great not to have all those stupid game discs laying around just like it's great not to have all those stupid CDs around.

Too bad the Remote app doesn't work for Front Row...

I hope it does in the future... if it even emulated the IR apple remote that controls Front Row, it could be used to control DVD playback or even EyeTV... Now that would be sweet... get a phone call and pause playback from anywhere in the house... if you allow it to in preferences. Maybe set it so that if the phone ringer is on silent, the call goes to voicemail, but if the ringer is on, it pauses playback and lets you answer the call. Why not???

Ok I cant get they keyboard to come up. I've got it attached to my apple tv and i can browse my music and control it, but when i go to youtube search on my apple tv no keyboard ever comes up. Whats the deal?

they should make the app also act as a touchpad so you could control the comp entirely from your iphone. Would be awesome.

has anyone not been able to get it work? My computer recognizes it but it doesn't accept the code for some reason. Very frustrating...

Not quite. You need to be connected to the same network where your iTunes or appletv resides.

whatabout when your connected to a wireless network but passing all trafic through a vpn?
if itunes in running on the other side of the network your vpn'd into could you?

Not sure if folks know this or not but Remote also allows you to type in your password when renting a movie. Something Apple really needed to address since every person in the livingroom could watch you type in your password. Now you can do it from your iPhone.

I think it would be awesome if you could hook headphones up to your iPhone and listen to what's being played on iTunes cause my headphones get much better sound quality than my Mbp. And my house has thin walls! the family complains when I want to watch soucth park at 3am

Plus if you had a VPN client hooked up to your home network. Boom! Access to your whole media library instead of the measly 16gbs. it would be a battery killer but great for driving.

And I completly agree with whoever said the iPhone should work as a trackpad for your computer or :apple:tv with safari (and DVR!!)

If :apple:tv paired with iPhone or iPod touch is made into an easily funtioning computer then it will take over!

I have to use a Universal Remote at present (Harmony One) to turn on the TV, Receiver etc, so the Remote App is nice mostly for the search with a keyboard capability. It also does not control the menus on the :apple:TV so you still need another remote. However, being that its free and does what it does very nicely, its all good.

I don't know why it can allow you to select music which will play through your :apple:TV and speakers, but not movie Clips. When I select a movie clip, it plays on my iMac.

I agree with the other posters who mentioned it. It sucks that you still need two remotes to use the apple tv fully. I stumbled on this feature a few days ago on accident while showing my sister how the apple remote app works. She navigated to YouTube and started up the search function. The keyboard came up on my phone instantly.

If apple updates the app to allow full control abilities it would be excellent! The little white remote is too simple for it's own good. How cool would it be to have the arrow buttons available on the phone to navigate through the menus? I'd love to ditch that little remote all together. Just showing me my playlists is not enough.

Seems like the true iPhone experience Arn...dead battery and no signal strength :p

Hah. I figured someone would notice that.

My battery has been running down since I've been testing a lot of iPhone games. As for reception. There's a funny story about that. About a year before the iPhone came out, Cingular (now AT&T) was trying to put up a new cell phone tower across the street from where I live. Of course, the community fought against it since it was potentially an eye-sore. Being on verizon at the time, I didn't really care since I had reception.

So, ya, AT&T reception at my house isn't so good. :)

Now if Apple added a DVR people might actually buy an AppleTV...

Seriously, not to be negative or start anything, but imagine how cool it would be to be able to program your DVR schedule using an iPhone application?

...And to add to that, have the ability to stream your recorded content to your iPhone and watch it anytime, anywhere?!?!

You want to change the way people look at DVRs and media boxes? This is how....

YES! I HAVE BEEN SAYING THIS FOR A YEAR! This is what I want to use mobileme and the idisk for! Ugh. So much potential...

oh, another thing - is remote.app the reason Apple isn't offering the white remotes with their computers for free anymore?

Awesome.

being a regular Apple TV user (i know...), i've rarely used the search feature due to the slow and often frustrating input. this sounds a lot more promising.

The keyboard on an iPhone is the worst soft-keyboard yet. I watch my diehard iPhone friends try to type messages to each other, and it baffles me how they put up with constant corrections and outright typos.

I just played with the new Sprint rip off of the iPhone, and I have to say the typing is fantastic. I typed on it like crazy, and I haven't made a typo yet. Landscape 100% keyboard is the trick for all applications. It has vibration and sound feedback as well.

AT&T is the first reason I can't get an iPhone (even in LA customers complain about routine dropped calls), and the keyboard in portrait mode is the other.

However, I'm glad you all love it! :)

i know this is slightly off topic,

but why is the icon for 'remote' not got rounded edges when viewed in the itunes applications library when all the other non apple apps do?

Perhaps Apple developers are experimenting with a slightly contrasting design (aluminum theme) for applications which function as actual buttons, such as the remote button. This way, it stands out amongst the rest of the apps, an embedded button for quicker and easier access.
