HUH?......Apple were not the first at an mp3 player nor a smartphone, very very seldom is Apple first at anything.

Give your head a shake!
Head is fine. Apparently wry humor doesn't translate very well to text. The OP claimed "Apple used to be the first to launch these kind of innovations years ago. Now they always go behind the competitors". I was giving lie to his assertion by pointing out that their two biggest new product lines of the last fifteen years were not innovations in the sense of being first, they were simply the first to offer the tech/device in a form the general public could relate to. I thought going on to suggest that the iPod and iPhone were complete failures made it pretty clear that sarcasm was involved, but it appears I need to recalibrate a bit.

lol, pretty soon my iPhone will have better security than most secured areas have.

Just use the apple logo on the back for fingerprint and get rid of the home button for my screen.
I don't see how this can be reliable and fast

Let's see how it works on note 7 first

I could see this working on VR especially from Samsung..... intriguing.

It's pretty much what is on my Nexus 6P. Simple and works well.

But will it be smart enough to handle the millions of us who wear contacts? o_0

An even harder would be seeing through the refraction of glasses. Tim Cook himself wouldn't be able to use his own iPhone XD

Intresting. I wonder how this would work with those with different colored eyes? Iris scanning detects through a steady consistent pattern of reading symmetry.

I wonder how it would work with glasses? I'm guessing sunglasses would be a no no.

This, so much this!
Just so much of awesome stuff is expected on 2017 and now 2018 models. :D

Also, Siri appears to be evolving and has learned iriS recognition. :p

Siri should learn voice recognition first.

Who's Iris...???

Actually, law enforcement has been using iris scanning to detect alcohol restriction violations for years now.

Siri's sister. :p

Why install something that's slower and won't work under all conditions when compared to a fingerprint scanner? Why even have two different biometric scanners on a single phone? I don't buy this rumor for a second.

I don't believe this rumor either since there would be so much obstacles to try and implement this into a cellphone besides the fact that it isn't needed since the iPhone has more than sufficient security authentication already. These people still haven't figured out what's really going to be in the 2016 iPhone but they're talking about the 2018 iPhone? GTFOH, the rumor mill is dry and this is just click bate.

I can picture it now...

Siri: "Sorry Tim, I cannot recognise your Iris. Please move closer to the camera."

edit: iris scanning has limitations such as in low light or too bright conditions, distance between your face and the phone, and it doesn't work with glasses/contacts, etc.
so if apple really is planning to add this feature they must fix all these issues.

Microsoft already fixed those issues. My 950XL unlocks fine with almost pitch black conditions and in the brightest of bright. Works perfectly fine with my glasses. Distance is still an issue, but I assume this is only a matter of changing sensors.

it would make most sense also. I mean there is a separation between the aluminum and the stainless insert now. I don't see why they couldn't make the whole logo a fingerprint scanner. It would look nice all glass too.

Virtually all of those sales are people buying on price alone. And those cool Galaxy 6 features are not on those phones.

Right. Virtually every single Samsung phone sold is because the person didn't want to put up the cash for an iPhone. It's really so hard for you to grasp that some people want a better screen and more freedom than a walled garden and screen and flash memory from 2010?

Man, if this is true Apple will be releasing their version of the Samsung Galaxy S6 in 2017. Then the 2018 model will be their Note 7. I love iCloud and iOS but hardware trailing 2 years behind is getting frustrating.
Actually the lumia 950 and 950 xl had it first. Which means Apple would be trailing behind a Windows phone. Shocking I know. Samsung is just simply copying as per usual. And leading nothing.

"In 2020, iPhone 11 will allow for semen sampling in its biometric data suite. Single mothers rejoice as illegitimate pregnancies will become easier to determine paternal parenthood and increase child support payments"

Yep, I'm sure Apple was completely blindsided by this until they saw Samsung's announcement, and definitely set up a brand new research project to try to duplicate Samsung's success with iris scanners.

Or maybe, just maybe, Apple has ongoing research projects and prototypes for all sorts of tech that hasn't seen the light of day yet (and might never make it out of the labs). And folks who don't understand this hear some story about some specific research project, like an iris scanner, and assume that because "Apple is working on it", it will definitely show up in the next model of iPhone or iPad or Mac. And then they declare "Apple is putting an iris scanner in the 201X iPhone", and some industry analyst picks it up and repeats it, and then the story makes it to MacRumors, where people can say, "oh no, Apple is copying Samsung ". Rather than, "one of the hundreds of things Apple has been toying with in the labs is iris scanners."

When I next see people on here, maybe even you, claiming Samsung has copied a rumoured Apple feature I'll quote your post.
As I said the irony..... I don't think you get that.

Sperm bank, DNA-testing iPhone. Schweet. Not like the male demographics aren't splashing their wad on their iPhone screens already.

Iris scanning? LOL. Nice for people who wear shades and communicate in a dark room. Apple is becoming more and more like Samsung every year. Just copy features from the Galaxy S4 and higher, and just call it the new iPhone. Note7 users look to be the guinea pigs for this iris scanning.

For 2019, FM radio! No need to use data!

For 2020, IR blaster to control your TV!

For 2021, 128gb as the $199 base model when micro-sd should cost $12 by then!

For 2022, micro-sd slot to tick off the previous year's iPhone buyers that didn't feature it!

You gotta love Apple for fooling all these morons who don't know jack squat using tech. Wished Apple can just license iOS to other manufacturers since many in the Android world can come up with these features and with far better prices.

MIUI is the best of both worlds. Thanks, Xiaomi.

You just know that your smartphone vendor is trolling you as a customer, when they remove an industry standard headphone jack but add an iris scanner to their phone...

I will admit though, that it might sometimes be a good idea, if your phone prevents you from texting drunk... :D
