The iPhone is perfect for the pocket, and compared to the other phones with bigger screens....No comparison! The bigger screens are over pixelated and they are almost impossible to use, they are inaccurate. Once you use the iPhone 4 a while it's really hard to downgrade to a less quality inferior touch screen like on the evo, droid x, or galaxy s ;)

I totally agree. The Iphone 4 3.5" screen is small...I don't feel that 4", 4.3", or 4.5" is big enough....

I wish Apple would come up with a 12" iphone and make a bumper accessory that can be strap to my chest. It'll act as an all in 1 device as well as a front bullet deterrent.

Seriously...if phones get any bigger how the hell is it going to fit comfortably in pockets?

On the other hand, those that crave bigger screens have other options to quench their appetite.

I love competition from Android and Windows since it keeps the market open and lends variety to the numerous devices/option available.

Nope. There are times when I pull it out of my pocket, look at it, and think that the increased resolution of the iPhone screen really makes it look much bigger. Bigger screen is not worth the bigger size of the phone.

I would prefer a bigger screen for sure. I think 3.8-4.0 would be about perfect. I used my friends droid x and it fits in the pocket rather well, at least I think. I use my iPhone for lots of different things, and I don't wanna have to use my laptop or any other device if I dont have to. When I go on a trip and want to watch a movie or such on the plane, I don't wanna have to lug around the laptop, I'd rather be able to comfortably watch a movie on my phone. Even bumping it up to 3.8 makes a big difference.

This issue has been revisited a number of times on recent threads.
I like the iPhone screen size as it currently is, BUT would have no problem going to a slightly larger screen utilizing the dormant real estate on the current form factor.
I have no interest in seeing a 4 1/2 inch screen because to do that would require a size increase in the iPhone itself which I wouldn't care for.

I think the iphone size is perfect but it would be better if apple makes good use of all the extra space on the top. Sure they would need to make the phone a little wider but it wont be that bad. 4" is too big imo.

Quality over quantity. The iPhone has a much higher resolution and is so much clearer than these 4.3" Android devices... Perfect size IMO. Bigger screen and lower resolution is a fail.

Haha - it is funny that the market demanded smaller and smaller mobile phones and then smart phones were developed and the trend has started going the other way now. I hope the iPhone 5 draws inspiration from this perfect form factor...

I disagree, my buddy has an Evo and the screen on that is freaking great, I loved using that phone.

Is the Samsung Epic the same as the Captivate? Over here its called the Samsung Galaxy S and i first saw one in a phone shop lined up next to the iPhone 4. The difference that extra half an inch made to the screen size was very apparent.

Same screen and size. 3.5" to 4" is a noticeable difference, a lot more than it sounds.

And you could have actually contributed to the discussion rather than simply putting someone down.

I've always found it funny how for the longest time it was all about phones getting smaller and more compact ( think "Zoolander" ). I actually remember being convinced to buy a phone back in 2000, the selling point was "It's as think as 5 credit cards". I was stoked. Now we're trying to go the opposite direction - BIGGER SCREEN! I personally believe that the iPhone screen is the perfect size - but everyone has different tastes. I'd rather just buy an iPad if I want to go bigger.

Not a valid comparison. The iPad does not make phone calls and is ridiculously large compared to even my EVO with its 4.3" screen.

Completely agree about pocketability. My EVO in a leather holster case fits comfortably in my pocket. I never really understood these size objections when I am carrying one of the "largest" phones and it's a non-issue.

Agreed the iPhone retina display is incredibly sharp. However the screens being put in the premium Android phones are no slouches. On my EVO the screen is excellent but admittedly (slightly) inferior to the retina display.

Agree wholeheartedly. The EVO screen is very good quality and the size is a pleasure to use.

3.5" is old school now. Apple needs to step it up to atleast 4".

The screen isn't THAT much better! It's better but it isn't drastically better to the point where it's a deal breaker. Now, the Blackberry Torch screen is HORRIBLE. Its only 3.2" though.

As a "phone" Apples 3.5" display is adequate.
As a "smartphone" it's lacking usefulness.

This is only noticed by the millions & millions who currently have "full size smartphones" such as the 4.0" Samsung Galaxy S, the worldwide sensation, as well as Motorola's 4.3" Droid X, and HTC's 4.3" EVO to name but a few. Having these three myself, it's first hand experience that's caused me to realize how tiny my iPhones display is, and how it slows one down when handling emails as well as the extra scrolling require to view web pages.

This is why Apple tried the diversion they call "retina" a fancy name for a hi-res small display. They realized that they were behind the competition. A mistake I don't believe Apple will repeat with the next iPhone.

Once Apple includes a larger display, then every fanboy will immediately proclaim it as the best. After all that's how it works in the beautiful walled garden Steve Jobs controls. Once he gives his followers permission, they change their tune and buy into the latest Apple hype.

Let's not forget those famous words " It's Magical & Revolutionary"... :)

I don't know about the rest of the members here saying that 4-4.5" is a comfortable fit in their pants pocket...but referring to myself...I have a big penis and there's just not enough space in my pants for a 4" + phone...it's already as crowded as it is down there.

I'm also going to have to pass on a man purse just for carrying a phone around.

Guess some of us have plenty of room to spare...maybe even fit an Ipad down there?:):p;):D

I'm sure mines bigger than yours, my phone that is, and it fits in my pocket fine.

It's a Phone, I remember people called it huge when it came out, now It's average, I still find it "big" but it's ok for me, they could just take more advantage of the current size, they could still use some space on the upper and lower side, like on the fast photoshopping i did, it's not nice, but I guess Johnny Ive would figure it out

Interesting. Could you throw one together quickly showing the iPhone 4 with that larger screen completely covering the front instead of comparing to the current size?

That would just mess up the proportions of the entire phone, something Jonny Ive would not like!

Over here, a gentleman dresses to the left, leaving plenty of room in the right pants pocket for a larger phone.

Yeah the 4" screen would be too much, and if Apple added the size with the current pixelation, I'm pretty sure the price would go up with it.
The screen is impeccable, and comfortable to use. I doubt Apple is going to completely reconstruct the phone just to increase the size of the screen.

There you go, I'm no photoshop Magician, but if they did the ronded corners a bit smaller they could even have more space (and make it look better), one thing to consider is the space for the speaker and camera, the home button could even be removed like on the nano, even if it would be interesting to see how that works with double clicks and so on (would you trade a lateral home button for more space?)

Using the current space is smarter than oversizing the phone, but some issues could appear like more accidental touches and so on, that's why the iPad has a huge bezel

Apple thinks this through. Your opinion hasn't mattered and won't matter moving forward.

Sounds like you pants are too tight. Stop wearing spandex.
