Oh please. This guy totally makes having a bigger screen workable ;)

I would bet that the next model will be min 3.8, and probably 4.0. Maybe a 3.5, and a 4" model. The Android 4.3", 4", and 3.8:" models do well, because people want them.

There is plenty of room with current form factor to have a 4" screen. Could have same resolution, and still have an impressive PPI.

Think about it, what new feature will the iP5 offer that will make us "have to have it".

Larger device, decreased battery life? No thanks. iPhone is the perfect size.

It would mean a marginally shorter battery life, and with the larger size there would be more space to allow for a bigger battery anyway. I dont think it would be as much of a problem as people make it out to be

There you go, I'm no photoshop Magician, but if they did the ronded corners a bit smaller they could even have more space (and make it look better), one thing to consider is the space for the speaker and camera, the home button could even be removed like on the nano, even if it would be interesting to see how that works with double clicks and so on (would you trade a lateral home button for more space?)

Using the current space is smarter than oversizing the phone, but some issues could appear like more accidental touches and so on, that's why the iPad has a huge bezel

Thanks! Great mockup.

Apple would find a way to put a larger battery in and negate this.

Screen size.
4G.

But a larger device has room for a proportionately larger battery. So the battery life should be no different (unless for other reasons). Notice that the iPad and iPhone 4 are both specified by Apple for the exact same 10 hours of wifi use battery life.

A somewhat strange conclusion to make, considering the iPhone's front is not even close to being filled up by the screen. Plenty of room, just not on the sides.
Not really. I assume when people stay bigger they mean bigger in width and length, not just longer. I'm not sure that making the screen longer is the answer as the length:width ratio in my opinion right now is quite nice.

As a "phone" Apples 3.5" display is adequate.
As a "smartphone" it's lacking usefulness.

This is only noticed by the millions & millions who currently have "full size smartphones" such as the 4.0" Samsung Galaxy S, the worldwide sensation, as well as Motorola's 4.3" Droid X, and HTC's 4.3" EVO to name but a few. Having these three myself, it's first hand experience that's caused me to realize how tiny my iPhones display is, and how it slows one down when handling emails as well as the extra scrolling require to view web pages.

This is why Apple tried the diversion they call "retina" a fancy name for a hi-res small display. They realized that they were behind the competition. A mistake I don't believe Apple will repeat with the next iPhone.

Once Apple includes a larger display, then every fanboy will immediately proclaim it as the best. After all that's how it works in the beautiful walled garden Steve Jobs controls. Once he gives his followers permission, they change their tune and buy into the latest Apple hype.

Let's not forget those famous words " It's Magical & Revolutionary"... :)

I'll begrudgingly use a 4-inch screen. 3.5 is the sweet spot. 4 is too big.

bigger screen = bigger phone. at the end of the day it is a phone and as nice a a bigger screen might be to look it, my pockets are only so big.

the HTC HD7 is barely bigger than an iPhone, and many phones with 3.8 inch screens aren't at all bigger, even some 4" screens aren't bigger phones.

These phones have much smaller bezels around the screen, and use the vertical more than the iPhone does, so the width of the screen may be almost the same as the iPhone, but it extends up further. However, having a taller screen has little benefit, while having a wider screen does

im hoping we get a bigger screen on the iphone 5 as well. However I think its unlikely. theyve made the iphone 4 extremely thin im guessing if they went a tiny bit bigger on the screen they could fit a bigger battery and even make the phone a bit thinner as well. iphone 5 will most likely just be up an updated spec wise version of the 4.

I have a newer iPhone 3GS, but went to Best Buy to see what new phones where out. I started with all the other phones, all with bigger screens. The EVO 4.3 was surprisingly comfortable in the hand and didn't seem large at all. It's rounded back (much like my 3GS) made it feel very good.

...then I saw the iPhone 4. I couldn't believe how TINY it looked next to the rest of the smartphones. I didn't even want to pick it up. (I did, and it didn't seem much better in any way than my 3GS). It actually felt too small.

No, a PHONE doesn't need to be 4", but a SMARTphone does. If you're saying a 3.5" screen is just fine, then you're not using your phone to it's full potential.

Apple really needs to get with the times. They could easily squeeze in a 4" screen with MINIMAL width change and no height change.

Apple is stubborn, though, and won't change until their market share starts to drop, so there's little hope for a decent size screen until that happens.

After recently trialling an HTC HD7 with 4.3" screen, I can say that for the size of hand I have, the iPhone 4 is quite fiddly to use. The old 3GS was more comfortable because of the rounded back and slightly larger dimensions, as was the HD7.
