I don't understand how the TouchID sensor being built into a button on the iPhone makes sense, since almost every user puts a case on it. I think it's more likely that it'll have FaceID and share the XR chassis. By early/mid 2022, FaceID will be almost 5 years old, so is no longer really a premium/exclusive feature to the higher end devices.

I think I'm commenting just to note that this is the first time I've noticed "to be" used as a split infinitive within a headline.

presumably a cut out in the side of the case?

I'd be up for this so long as there was a 256GB version - replace my 8 plus

If you like small phones, the 13 mini is literally the perfect phone, as it finally gives a mini phone with good battery life with flagship specs. The 2020 SE is just not a good phone (battery life) other than the launch price.
I absolutely agree with you, Ian. Problem is, as you already know, Face ID in a world of masks.

I am testing a new alphanumeric passcode with a couple of words, because it will be harder to read by strangers each time I unlock the phone, harder than a numeric passcode. The problem comes with Apple Pay, I'm not sure you can approach the device to the payment device, initiate the transaction, then approach your phone near you to type in the passcode, and then put the smartphone again on the payment device. If I have to type the passcode just below the nose of the cashier and other people around, it is not safe by any means.

Oh come on.. ditch the LCD already. Just use OLED leftovers from iPhone Xs or something!
I went from the Xr to the 11 pro and the size of the 11 pro was perfect for me.

I now have the 12 mini and its nice and compact (5g is nice as well) but it's just a tad too small.

The Xs and 11 pro physical size and screen size was the sweet spot for me. The Xr was just too big.

I honestly don't care for the OLED vs. LCD (even though the 720p Xr was noticable) but 1080p LCD would be the bare minimum for ALL Apple devices they release moving forward.

Yeah you can do it exactly like you’ve described for Apple Pay. I do it all the time.

Would they really go all-screen with an SE first? Technological merits of Face ID over Touch ID notwithstanding, an all-screen phone would immediately look well advanced beyond the notched phones. Would Apple really let the budget model outshine the flagships?

Screen size increase at the same price as last years model? Maybe under Jobs. No, if the iPhone SE is betting a bigger screen the older SE will be the one at the same price (maybe they'll bump the chip) and the bigger SE will be called the iPhone SE-X ...on second thought, maybe XE. The price will also be bigger. They will make sightly more expensive versions of every entry price model, upgrade those, and give the entry price models scraps or just keep them the same for several years at a time. That's Cook's Apple.

I'm having no problem with that. All I do is quickly yank the mask down past my nose. The iPhone instantly authenticates and then I slip my mask back up. Takes a couple of seconds and is only a minor inconvenience.
I'll have to see if the people on the groceries' where I buy are confortable with that, or even allow that. Here, mask is mandatory on every shop.

While it was impossible to predict the current world situation, Apple has had time to work on the remedy but has chosen not to do so for some reason. (probably has to do with their long-term strategy for FaceID). And just be patient and not change the plan.

In some ways? yes they would, in other ways no.

Iphone SE3? I want iPod touch 5-6G weight and form factor, bezel-less and notchless screen, at least 1TB of memory and usb-c. Shut up Apple and take $700 for that.

Every shop I've been in hasn't had a problem with that, because it's so quick. They don't even seem to notice it. Practice the move at home first, to get the iPhone lined up properly. When I created my FaceID, I kept the phone down near my chest, where it would be when I use ApplePay. So when I hold my phone near the terminal, it's at a similar angle and I've had no trouble authenticating. Apparently, FaceID doesn't care about the chin area. As long as my face is showing from my forehead to my nose, it seems to work.
