I think it’s more about offering a cheaper option by taking a last generation design and updating some internal components. If this is the next SE it actually fits the pattern perfectly.I thought the whole point of the SE was the smaller screen size? If this rumor is right, I guess it's more about reusing old designs/components until they run out?
Because based on the 12 and 13 series small phones don't sell as well. It also gives incentive to make people go for the more expensive mini model if they really want it.All I care about is its size. Hope they follow the 4.7 inch trend for SE devices.
Why do all phones have to be big? How about stop the release for main models mini version and instead keep small screen size on SE devices!
Same here. No way ill get an XR sized phone. If this rumor flip flop is true Ill consider a 13 mini but may just immediately get the current gen SE before it goes out of stock. I hope this rumor isn’t true.If it has the same design as the XR/11, no way I am getting this phone. Way too big for my hands. I will have to give the 13 mini a try (despite Face ID not working with masks), and if I don’t like the experience, get the SE 2020 while it’s still on sale.
Out of curiosity, do you have an Apple Watch? If so, enable the Watch to unlock FaceID. I used it last year when masking was much more common (in my part of the country).I absolutely agree with you, Ian. Problem is, as you already know, Face ID in a world of masks.
I am testing a new alphanumeric passcode with a couple of words, because it will be harder to read by strangers each time I unlock the phone, harder than a numeric passcode. The problem comes with Apple Pay, I'm not sure you can approach the device to the payment device, initiate the transaction, then approach your phone near you to type in the passcode, and then put the smartphone again on the payment device. If I have to type the passcode just below the nose of the cashier and other people around, it is not safe by any means.
Make sense. The rumors of Apple keeping the iPhone 8 design makes no sense, as the battery will be too small for 5G.
When was the last time you checked the name of the site?
If they go the Touch ID route (as it seems to be cheaper than Face ID based on iPads) I suspect they will still use the same LCD panel from the XR and 11 with a notch, with the notch still containing the speaker and front camera but removing the other Face ID components. Time will tell.I think leveraging older designs was always the point of the SE, not the screen size. The fact that the older designs had smaller screens was just the way it was. The SE was Apple's way of hitting a price point (~US$400) using the newest (or close to newest) Ax chip and upgraded components like cameras, etc.
Using the design of the Xr/11 is consistent with the previous SE designs. I am skeptical on the TouchID vs FaceID part of the rumor. Apple already has designs for the LCD screen in this size with FaceID already. Why make a whole new design (no matter how trivial) to implement the TouchID power button. Besides, the notch is a recognizable feature of iPhones and this will end up looking like any other Android phone.
We shall see.
EDIT - haha - Posters 51, 52, and 53 all read down to the bottom of the first page at the exact same time, practically. Don't know why, but I find that amusing.
It’s also thinner and has a smaller battery than the iPhone 12/13 mini. The iPhone 8 design, used by the current iPhone SE, is larger than iPhone 12 / 13 mini.
How is the case an impediment? Just like with the ring/silent switch, the case can feature a cutout for the power button.I don't understand how the TouchID sensor being built into a button on the iPhone makes sense, since almost every user puts a case on it. I think it's more likely that it'll have FaceID and share the XR chassis. By early/mid 2022, FaceID will be almost 5 years old, so is no longer really a premium/exclusive feature to the higher end devices.
I think actually it’s “rumors suggest”…The word most use on this site is : Rumored
Unless the iPhone 14s feature all-screen displays as well...Would they really go all-screen with an SE first? Technological merits of Face ID over Touch ID notwithstanding, an all-screen phone would immediately look well advanced beyond the notched phones. Would Apple really let the budget model outshine the flagships?
