I always liked smaller phones because they fit in the pocket better. I finally caved and bought a 15PM and I'm completely sold on it- mainly because of the battery life. It's still a bit annoying in the pocket and can damage shorts/trousers if you sit with it in there, though.

No thanks

I literally don’t care about the features on a huge device I don’t need and is a PITA to deal with.

Was using a 15PM to take photos a few times this weekend (relatives phone) and couldn’t stand it

Fair enough, mate! Each to their own. I was surprised I liked the bigger iPhones, really. Even though I can use them one handed, they just seemed too cumbersome. I love the fact I can go a whole weekend without a power bank now...

To be honest, it is rather ridiculous that the main new feature of iOS18 only runs on the 15Pro model (I.e. latest + most expensive). Maybe Apple should not have been greedy and just should have added a tad more ram to its phones to begin with. Let alone the atrocious 8GB in a M3 MBP. Their cpu and gpu can do wonders, but as said before in the countless “8GB in my mb in 2024 is fine/ridiculous” forum posts, that power is held back by the low amount of ram that Apple chose include and charge an arm and leg for to upgrade. Now, it seems they did the same in the latest line of iPhones, so your shiny new iPhone 15 will not have several of the most important features at the time of its very first iOS update. Lets see what happens with AI on macOS and how happy the 8GB crowd will be with the next 1 or 2 macOS updates. The m4 will probably include 12 or 16GB at base config.

AI and RAM, my favourite topic. Iphone 15 14 will be able to run AI, maybe not complete Apple AI.
Why would I want to overheat and drain battery and use my iPhone to do computing? I do not understand why offloading this to server would mind. If anyone wants to read sorted mails, nail AI generated picture on their social media profile, then they need connection to the web. Competent Apple AI will mean competition and lower monthly subscription.

On the other hand OLED display.. mmmm..

I wonder if part of why they don’t make a small phone is that Apple tech isn’t as “magical” as we are often led to believe?

My 13 Mini gets bogged down plenty and it has garbage battery life honestly. I do zero gaming or social stuff beyond web browser, email, photos…biz stuff. About half the time I’m using it with wired CarPlay and it refuses to charge because it says it’s overheating.

It’s a tool for me and frankly it should be better

faster bandwidth everyone takes advantage of, so 5G is a must, everything you do on internet its time consuming and time is money.
on the other side..to have more ram to have everything in the background and not to be refreshed every 10 min is also a nice thing not to mention every OS can use more Ram,including iOS thats adds features
Thank god Apple move on and not listen people like you, otherwise we would be stuck on 3.5" iphone with 4gb of ram and 3G that is sold for $1000 because “the vast majority dont need x and y”

You're confusing what you want with what people actually need.

The "mini" iphones were garbage. Overheated, tiny screen, terrible battery life. It's simply bizarre people talk so fondly of them. For me and most of the population: bigger the better. Give me a 5000+ MAH battery and a 7" screen w/ near zero bezels. 12-16GB RAM. And an OS that doesn't fight me on what I want to do and lock down everything - give us a "pro" mode of IOS.

"because the features require a minimum of 8GB of RAM."

Did Apple explicitly say that? Or we are just to believe their spin and go buy new phones to use AI.

I got the 15 back in January… so my 8-month-old phone is pretty much obsolete? Thanks Tim!

i love my mini.

Because Apple's approach is "on-device", not "off-device".
The things that require any sort of cloud processing will be using Apple's Hybrid approach I don't remember the name. Private Cloud Computing or something like that.
It's interesting that the AI features in the current betas don't seem to work without an internet connection.

The vast majority of people don't need 12GB RAM on a phone. Most of them don't need 5G either tbh. There's all sorts of features that people seem to think are essential because they are used as marketing crutches to persuade Fandroiders that their phone is better than the iPhone they can't afford but its a bit silly really.

That sort of attitude is why apple were still getting away with including 6gb ram on a phone released last year; that surprise surprise can't this year's killer feature.

They have to screw up this product somehow, otherwise it will cannibalize other iPhone models.
Otherwise it will probably be the very first iPhone I buy.
Next year's iPhone 17 is rumored to have 8GB RAM too.

The SE4 will absolutely cannibalize the base model sales.

Why would it be doa?

The iPhone SE until now has never been anywhere remotely close to top of the line.

It’s the phone that people get to say they have iPhones. It’s the phone prepaid carriers can sell for cheap.

It will still not be remotely close to top of the line, yet Apple put so much buzz into their AI that excluding it from any new iPhone would be like releasing a new iPhone without a camera.

Because i don't want my apps to get get memory'd out or refresh in the background when i switch to check another app for example.

Long time apple user - more ram is better.

Why do you not want more ram?

Be specific.

More RAM uses more battery. Less RAM is better for less often wall-hugging. There's often a trade-off. Some won't mind, some will.
