iPhone SE was compact, perfect for small hands of many, many teenagers and under.
Apple has a weird year of decision making.
Smart parents would just hand down their old iPhone to the minor and use the replacement for themselves.

Everyone here is mini mini mini, but the mini didn't sell well.
It wasn’t priced like the SE, nor did it have the features of the pro lineup. The mini didn’t do well going up up against the base iPhone, but that doesn’t necessarily translate to other markets (budget or premium).

Not only that, an iPhone 14 sized phone seems bad for Apple, as it might just take sales from the the higher priced base iPhone instead of attracting new buyers.

In 2025 my XR will be 7 years old. Battery is down to 80% now, doubt itll last 2 more years. My employer now only allows SE... :(

No it's not. Apple has a history of putting the latest processor into the SE model, that's one of it's great selling points: a cheaper iPhone that lasts just as long as the flagships. Plus the iPhone 14 currently has lightning.
Apple can keep selling the 14 with Lightning, but all new phones have to have USB-C, even if they are based on one which had Lightning.

than buy a used 15 for the same price;-)

i don’t love the mini’s size either. i loved the 5s’ 4 inches.

but they already had the mini production line so it’s easier to adjust.
If you are okay with adjusting to the mini, maybe the SE3 can be your backup option since they are essentially the same size.

I guess that I'm different then the type of consumer that Apple is targeting.

My use is primarily as a phone so I'm looking for something with good battery life that fits comfortably in my pocket.

The original SE is the perfect size for me.

To me the pinnacle of iPhone design was the iPhone 5S/iPhone SE 1st gen. I loved it. Sadly it's gone, not coming back. Just like there will never be another 1959 Cadillac convertible made.
I used to help wash my parents' 1959 Cadillac. It was the biggest, baddest American car. It was pretty and ugly, at the same time.

I don't see the original iPhone SE that way. I remember switching from a 2nd generation iPod touch (and my LG Optimus S) to the iPhone 4S. It was better than the iPod touch design, but I quickly moved to the iPhone 6 for the sake of usability. Had the iPhone 6 been slightly smaller, I wouldn't have minded, but the iPhone 4S seemed too small, and was always slipping out of my hand, even with the heavy duty case.

I'm probably going to hold onto my 2022 iPhone SE. I watch people struggle with Face ID and the gestures. I just want to use my phone, not struggle with it, any more than I wanted to use Windows, instead of my Mac.

That’s like saying people buy SUVs because they prefer them, when in fact US manufacturers basically gave up making sedans & coupes because they market SUVs & trucks exclusively because larger is more profitable.

So let’s stop with the “it’s consumer preference“ shtick, because that’s not it at all.

It’s profits.

Apple bent over backwards to make a 5.4-inch device. Android manufacturers already knew nobody would buy it. Apple tested the waters thinking Android was wrong.

If it was all about profit, Apple wouldn't have done 5.4-inch at all.

In other words, iPhone mini isn't commercially viable.

No, it wasn't priced at $399 like the SE. No, Apple can't put in three cameras and stainless steel and sell at $699 either.

Yes, I'd like an iPhone 16 Ultra Pro Max at $599 as well. Who wouldn't?

23 people here mentioned their desire for an iPhone Mini-sized phone.

Sadly, it looks like Apple will not release a new "mini" iPhone for these 23 people.

I'm starting to think they are all the same person with different accounts.

What's the point in rereleasing the iPhone 14 6 grams lighter with a slightly worse camera and calling it the SE 4. Everyone who's had the previous SE's and still own or went ahead and bought the SE 3 when it came out have it because its a good size for them, and most likely prefer LCD screens over the problematic OLEDS. This is completely stupid.

48MP and A17

I very selfishly would love one more LCD-based SE to get through to MicroLED.

I think an XR SE released in March 2024 would sell very well for at least a few years and would serve as the perfect driver to higher tier iPhones, which is what Apple really wants.

I keep reading here that this or that wouldn't or didn't sell well. That's fine language for meeting of the marketing department, but I assume that very few people here are actually part of Apple's markerting department.

If every customer would voice their wishes along the lines of what already sells well products would inevitably converge to the most selling product - and I think most can agree that this is not desirable.

There are many reasons one could think of why the current form factor of the standard iPhone is the one that sells best and at the same time why it distinctly isn't the right form factor for a valid customer base.

Personally I kinda got around to making peace with the the 6/7/8 form factor while still preferring the old 5 form factor as it was the last one a person with my hands could use comfortably without employing gymnastics. I will run my SE 2020 into the ground if I have to (not going to get the 2022 upgrade-let) and if by that time there is no phone I can bring myself to endure I will find one somewhere else. If that's okay for Apple I'm happy to part ways as well.
