My Spigen Tough Armor case for the iPhone 6 disguises the true rounded shape of the phone and makes it look like an exaggerated iPhone 5S. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00NSSX23I

It'd be a "boring" announcement if this rumored 5SE is just an minor update with the no changes to the case itself.

We're just two weeks away from the rumored launch date of the 4-inch "iPhone SE," but due to mixed rumors and a lack of part leaks, we still don't know exactly what the device will look like. Rumors suggest an iPhone 5s-style body with an iPhone 6-style curved glass front panel, two concepts that are difficult to merge.

Design drawings and early case leaks out of China haven't been helpful thus far, also offering up conflicting information on the final design, but renderings from an established, well-known case manufacturer may help shed some light on what we can expect.

Spigen is an accessory company that often has some of the first cases available for new iOS devices, and the iPhone SE is no exception. The company is working on cases for the 4-inch iPhone, and case renderings obtained by MacRumors suggest Spigen expects a design that's nearly indistinguishable from the iPhone 5s.

The device continues to have the same general shape as the iPhone 5s, with round volume buttons, a power button located at the top of the device, and a pill-shaped flash. Design drawings have suggested the iPhone SE could perhaps have a camera that protrudes slightly, something that can't be determined from the Spigen renderings.

Spigen's cases wrap around the front of the screen, making it unclear how the display of the iPhone SE differs from the display of the iPhone 5s. The edges of the iPhone SE are also not visible, so any slight differences in curvature would be difficult to determine from the rendering.

MacRumors has heard from multiple well-known case manufacturers that the iPhone SE will be the same size as the iPhone 5s, several of whom have been confident in that assessment, but how that ultimately meshes with rumors of an iPhone 6-style display remains to be seen.

Early cases are often accurate and serve as a solid indicator of what an upcoming iOS device might look like, but on occasion, case makers get design details wrong. As mentioned above, we have seen iPhone SE cases with distinctly different styles, so there is some disagreement on design between accessory makers.

Spigen's position as a well-known case manufacturer with a lot to lose may mean the company has put more resources into sussing out the look of the iPhone SE, but given all of the conflicting information, the design of the device may remain in question until it debuts on March 21.

[doublepost=1457576483][/doublepost]Apple iCloud is down here in Dallas, TX, area, March 9, 2016, evening.

My 5C is on it's last legs, and degrading as the days to this rumoured Apple event count down. Non-Apple replacement screen is a bit flaky and even popping out on the top edge, and the battery barely lasts half a day now. And my contract is pretty much up too. Although I've never been shy of buying first generation models. Never had any issues arising from that either.

What on earth you people doing to your phones, still got 3GS going strong after a battery change 18 months ago! Only 1 year ago got swapped out for a newer phone, now used as an Ipod.

Having a nearly identical design to the 5s would explain the lack of part leaks. I also wonder what is the likelihood of there being TWO 4 inch phone released, a budget one to replace the 5c/5s and a 6S Mini on par with the 6s/Plus.

I also seriously doubt anyone in the US will be able to buy a discontinued 5s for half price as has been rumored. I can't see Apple canabalizing sales of a new 4 inch phone right out of the gate. I bet they will concentrate those sales in India.

My guess is we will probably see a 5SE this year, and then a 6S Mini next year, as its replacement.

I didn't read the article properly and that it said that they found new renderings showing what the new phone would look like.

I'm glad this is not the case. *phew*

I've never really been a fan of this super squared off design. I don't hate it, but i just don't think it's very good, or ergonomic.

Nearly visually identical to the 5s but with current specs?

I'm OK with that.

I wouldn't wanna go back to a thick phone. the protruding camera is minor inconvenience.... not something that make people buy a thicker device.
Unless for some reason they like thick phones.... some still do.

4s: 140 gm, 9.3 mm -> 5s: 112 gm, 7.6 mm -> 6s: 143 gm, 7.1 mm!

That is just 0.5 mm thicker!!

The "thicker" 5s is lighter than the 6s. All (?almost) the iPhone buyers use a case, for various reasons, that case defeats all purpose of the strife for a thinner device buy the Apple engineers.

If the iPhone 7/7s goes thicker by the 0.5 mm that the 6 lost to 5, and gives me a better battery and sense of grip, I will take the thicker iPhone!

Also, the battery cannot be too thick these days - the smarter phone operates hotter, the battery itself generates more heat, so a thicker battery will prevent heat dissipation! This heat will affect the working parts of the device, reducing the performance and life of the iPhone.

If they reduce the bezel (like Samsung) and give a bigger screen, say 4.3 to 4.5 inches, on the iPhone 5s platform, THAT is perfect for me! I can reach the ends of the screen across the iPhone 6s, but I find carrying it on my person tough; the iPhone 6s is too big to fit in any pocket easily! Will not even touch the 6plus, unless it is a bedside only device!

I'm usually pretty gentle on my phones, and hand them on in great condition to deserving, less affluent friends when i'm done with them. But my poor 5C has had a harder life. I dropped it when I was drunk, so broke the screen (note to self: don't take photos of the dog when you're drunk, no matter how cute he's looking). My first broken screen in 4 iPhones, and I cheap-assed it and didn't get a genuine Apple replacement, which naturally isn't quite as good. And the battery is being pummelled more than it used to be because I'm using Apple music and streaming most of my music now, which uses more power than playing saved music files. As if that wasn't enough, I've been using Grindr and Scruff a lot more over last few months. So all of that has been a bit much for the poor little thing, it's barely hanging on!

Don't think that's right. All leaks are ..A9, 12mp, bigger battery, Apple Pay/NFC, Touch ID. That's current flagship and NOT a budget phone.

SE has not been rumoured as a budget phone. According to what we have heard so far SE is to get decent hardware in a 4" body, while 5S is to be still available heavily discounted.

never have i purchased a brand new phone "when it's released" nor have i preordered any device.

i am about to do both now as my current 5C is giving me nightmares. can't wait for the purported 5SE, it ticks all the boxes that i care for!

If your 5C nightmares are software-related, maybe try restoring it via iTunes? No 5C nightmares here, so far, does everything, just a fraction slower than the younger models. ;)

I hope this isn't true. I was really hoping the SE would look a lot like the 6S.

I already have a 5S and have own one for the last 3 years. Now I want to buy another 4 inch phone and it's going to look almost exactly like my previous phone?

That would be such a joy kill not just for me but a lot of customers who want a 4 inch phone.

lol so it's going to be a speed bumped 5S, and the 7 will be a 6s without the inner antenna bands on the back. Whoopee.

All i know it has round volume. I thinner bezel, for me, would be something to go for.

I doubt it will look like 5s, i bet it will be somewhere between iPhone 6 and iPod 6G.
And these round volume buttons are sooo 2010...

That case looks awfully thick to me. I like my 6s+ size...it is perfect for me. I wouldn't go down in size. But this phone looks to be a little on the thick side just going by the case anyway.

If this phone is getting announced on March 21st where are the invites?? It's less then 2 weeks away and not mention from Apple?

Last year the Spring event of March 9th was announced February 26th, so 11 days ahead.
They may send the invitation tomorrow or Monday.

The 5S remains one of the best form factor phones i have owned, while its not innovating, it should prove to be an excellent phone recycling the elements of the 5S/6 . As long as it comes in the premium body that that is equal or better than the 5S, it will be a great phone. The inclusion of the headphone jack, may mean this will be my new iPhone this year.
