The smaller screen must really be important for you to give up 2 hardware features and not be able to run iOS 12 as well as the iPhone 7 which is also going to be released this year. If that's the case whatever floats your boat.

I must be the crazy one, but I thought the move to 4" screen was silly. Now they have the "iPad nano" (sorry, iPhone 6+/6s+), and I can't believe people really like something that big!

Truth be told, I still feel the 3.5" was the best size and would pay flagship price to get a current gen 3.5" iPhone. Instead I have to settle for the 4" SE...

No. 2.5" inch screen was the best size can easily fit in my pocket. Old flip phone or brick phones whatever you want to call it. Didn't waste time on the Internet all day and all night.

Look I really like Apple products. Own a few Ipads in fact I just bought a new Ipad pro and really enjoy my MAC mini but I'm astounded at the interest in the Iphone SE for what it costs! I went to my local Apple store and looked at the SE and came away scratching my head. 400 bucks for a 16gb phone is out of the question and when you start evaluating the 64gb model for 500 bucks with a tiny low resolution screen I'm wondering do folks look past the Apple branding? Sure, it's got a decent CPU and it should have for 500 bucks but to do what on a 4 inch low resolution screen? Texting seems impossibly awkward unless you have the tiniest hands so whats am I missing? If this was an Android brand phone it would be 200 bucks?
so buy a $200 4" android phone with similar specs and experience. What exactly is the problem?

Wow...don't know how my eyes would handle that on reading webpages.

I think the SE is great value for an iPhone, possibly the best value iPhone yet, all things considered. Yes the 6S and 6S Plus have a few extra bells and whistles, but I'm not into campanology or Silbo Gomero, so that's ok.

iPhone SE is positioned to be a really good solid phone minus the gimmicks. If you want a smaller smartphone that has the processing power of the biggers iphones but don't need all the gimmicks the iPhone SE is the way to go. In a pefect world 64GB would replace 16GB, but since iCloud is their answer to expandable memory, you might see if in the iphone 7 again. But back in the real world, $500 for 64GB is a no brainer. I still have a 6 and If the rumors are true and the 7 wont be a drastic departure from the 6 series design. I may go with an SE to hold me over until the iphone 8. Sure i wont get new "features" but aside from showing off the features to other people, how much do you actually use said features? What i will get is a powerhouse in a smaller package and more durable.

Problem is I want a battery to last 1 or 2 weeks

I think iphone 6 and 6S is the right size for a smartphone for small hands.

If you're used to the 3.5" screen that's fine. I absolutely love the 5.5" screen on the 6 plus and am ok with not being able to use it with one hand or not being able to sit down with it in my pocket :)

Apple's marketing strategy for the iPhone SE is pretty clear. It is for people who:

- Would not upgrade their iPhone to newer offering because they wanted to retain the 4" form factor (33% of iPhone users if I remember the figure correctly).
- Were in the market for smartphone around $400.00 (This would make people looking at Android devices consider the iPhone as well)

I may be wrong but depending on how well SE sales do we may eventually see the 4" form factor in Apple's line up as a 3rd screen size offering.

I wouldn't be surprised to see a 4" iPhone 8, 4.7" iPhone 8 and a 5.5" iPhone 8 next year.

Fixed.

If you want a smaller iPhone in 2016 that has less hardware than the iPhone of 2015 than the SE is just for you! Don't forget to upgrade again in 3 years again instead of 4 in order to run the latest iOS!

Sorry, I think Apple screwed over its userbase with the SE release. my prediction for 2017 will be:

4" iPhone 8, 16GB base storage
4.7" iPhone 8 64GB base storage (+$100.00)
5.5" iPhone 8 "Pro" 64GB base storage + a few hardware/software features the 4.7" model does not have (+$100.00)

The iPhone SE is $250 cheaper than the 6s. You can't really use things that may or may not happen in the future to compare them.

I won't be surprised if Apple adds a 4" iPhone at a lower price point to the regular line up that's all I'm saying. The only difference would be that the hardware would be the same generation of the other iphones.

Why do you keep stating that the SE won't be able to run the latest OS in 4 years!?

The SE has the exact same internal components that the flagship 6s has -- at least the components that matter. Unless Apple requires a barometer, 3D Touch, or a 5mp FaceTime camera for future upgrades, all of which is highly unlikely, then the SE will last as long as the 6s. Obviously there are no guarantees even with the 6s, but if they follow Apple's usual pattern, the 6s will get updates for iOS 10, 11 & 12 -- and if it does, then so will the SE. Considering the 4s started with iOS 5 and got upgrades to 6, 7, 8 & 9, I'd say there's a pretty good chance the 6s & SE might even get an update to iOS 13 (or whatever it's called).

And why do you keep saying it has less hardware than a 2015 iPhone? You might as well say the same thing about the 6s, since after all it has a smaller screen than the 6s+, and it has a worse camera and battery performance. And the 6s is a 2015 iPhone! Maybe a customer who needs a new iPhone today just simply shouldn't buy an iPhone at all, because they're all last year's technology. The reality is, if a customer doesn't need 3D Touch, a barometer, or a higher quality FaceTime camera, etc., then how is it a problem for them that they pay $250 less for essentially the same technology otherwise currently being sold in the flagship iPhone?

Nobody is getting screwed here. The SE is quite likely the best value Apple has ever offered in any product.

You seem genuinely upset that people actually prefer a smaller iPhone and saving money, even though there are compromises. Why does our preference of the iPhone SE over the iPhone 6s bother you so much?

Also, how many of us are still going to be using the same phone we have now in four years? Come on, now. I've never kept a phone longer than two years.

Whoa. Ease up - the Iphone SE only looks comparatively "cheap"......because Apple has been steadily jacking up the price of their "flagship" phones to nosebleed levels. And at that on purely minor feature iterations.

You've still got a phone here that is a "mini" for those who have minor needs. All the theoretical specs and bench are hardly of any use on a 4" screen. For that, this phone isnt cheap.

Steadily jacking up the price? The base iPhone has been $649 since at least the iPhone 4, which came out 6 years ago.

I love my SE, I use my iPad Pro for things that need a bigger screen..
Same, except I have an iPad Air 2. My iPhone SE is the perfect phone to take out with me so I can call, text, take pictures, browse the web a little when I'm bored, listen to music, etc. When I want to sit down and browse the web, watch videos, etc. for hours, that's what my iPad is for.

Even the largest phones are too small to replace a tablet for me, so I'll stick with a small phone and a big tablet.

That doesn't make it any less the best value Apple offers on any current product, and without doing a lot of research, I'd say maybe any product Apple has ever sold. Apple's entire business model is charging at least 40% more than the competition for the exact same hardware technology, and often less. And I'm hard pressed to name a product with flagship specs at entry level prices.

This idea that people have "minor" needs simply because the screen is .7" smaller than the next size phone up is ridiculous. The SE is every bit as capable as the 6 or 6s, unless a person has bad eyesight and has broken their glasses, with very few tradeoffs in screen real estate, and the tech packed into that smaller case can be leveraged every bit as much as it is on the 6s.

Iphone is sold worldwide. Price is not US alone. Here in Europe, their price points have been going up for the past decade. Steeply of late. And its not about exchange rates.

It's blindingly obvious (pun intended) that the difference in screen size impacts usability for photo editing and video playback. Poof - there goes a lot of your horsepower use case. What are you going to do with the sexy CPU? See your four lines of email 0.005 seconds faster?

Yeah, but we've been discussing the price in USD, so that's why others are saying it's cheap. $399 for the SE is cheap compared to $649 for the "normal" iPhone.

I genuinely think Apple is taking advantage of people who favor a smaller phone by selling them a sub par iPhone. the screen is smaller. That alone should be enough to offer it at a lower price. Did they have to exclude 2 hardware features also?

Ok, so what you're saying is that no android phone offers the same battery life and features in this size. so the problem is solved. there's no choice other than this.

To make things right I think Apple should just permanently add a 4" version of their flagship iPhone to their yearly line up rather than re-package the prior year's model under a "Special Edition" branding with some features excluded. Offer the iPhones like this:

iPhone 8 SE - 4" screen, 16GB entry level storage. $400.00, doesn't include X and Y features.

iPhone 8 - 4.7" screen, 32GB entry level storage, $650.00, Includes X and Y features.

iPhone 8 Pro - 5.5" screen, 64GB entry level storage, $750.00, Includes X, Y and Z feature that is exclusive to the Pro.

Fully agree , Why all this anger from the 6s Owners ? We just Want a phone not a phablet.

Apparently I'm the only one who cares about Apple ripping people like you off by offering you the size you want in 2016 with the hardware from 2015. It's alright I guess.

Hope Apple doesn't release a iPhone 7 SE this year because you will end up being the angry one not me.
