So, I just picked mine up on Friday, and already, I'm going to have to take it back. Up until now, this has been my favorite phone ever, but today I tried using some EarPods with it (I'm not sure why I didn't immediately test this) and yep. Looks like the headphone jack is broken. Nothing but static until I turn the volume up to max. Then as soon as I lower the volume again, back to static. Doesn't work for music. Doesn't work for calls. Doesn't work for videos. So incredibly disappointed by this. And I know this is not a problem with my headphones. Tried them on my computer and it was fine. Then I took the new EarPods (the ones that came newly packaged with the phone) and I have the exact same issue. The jack is definitely messed up somehow. Any chance I'm able to get a replacement, or do you think they've cleared out all the remaining stock already? This is really the only phone I want. I hope the SE2 rumors lead to something incase they aren't able to get me a replacement...

Apple says they only replace warrantied defective products with new products, not refurbished. Despite not having new phones in stock for sale, they do have new inventory to serve as warranty replacements, though without the retail packaging and accessories.

Clearly this is a defective unit, which obviously happens from time to time. One of the two I bought has what appears to be a small cosmetic defect. I’m still debating whether to try and replace it. But yours is a different situation. Take it back to Apple and ask for a new one considering you just bought it this week.

Just curious, but is that a general policy, or just for phones purchased within the 14-day return period? I clearly remember having a battery issue on an old iPhone 4S that was covered by AppleCare, and when I took it into the Apple Store, they just swapped out the entire phone. And they told me that they no longer made them, so it was going to have to be refurbished. It came in a plain white box I think, but admittedly I had no issues with the phone until I dropped it in a puddle way later. I even got "upgraded" from an 8GB model to a 16GB cause apparently they didn't have any 8GB ones in stock. I'm hoping it will be different in this case since I literally just got it. I'm just worried since I believe they don't make the SE anymore...do they?

This is what I’ve been told. Not official published policy as far as I know. Mine was a 5s the winter after it had been dropped. So considerably more recent than your 4s account. Moreover, it’s pretty clear Apple still make sure it, at least for some foreign markets, and it is still actively sold by third party retailers in a “locked” configuration, suggesting that Apple is still shipping new units to the US for sale. Also, considering Apple is still directly selling new retail units, albeit on clearance, that further suggests that there should still be a sufficient stock of new warranty products available, even if they aren’t actively making it any more.

All you can do is contact Apple. On the bright side, even a refurbished SE would not have been priced as low as these clearance SEs, and Apple still has to honor the warranty it as if it were new, so even if you did get a bad refurb., they’d have to keep replacing it through the full warranty. And if they do give you a refurb. for some reason, I’d definitely get the AppleCare+ warranty if you didn’t already.
