I'd buy any updated SE actually. I don't favour face recognition or that awfully nice screen of the X. I don't care about the bezels. My iPhone is just a tool. I'll probably wait a couple of months and then decide to buy whatever SE is available to replace my current 5. Ok, I'll check MacRumors to check the rumors and announcements beforehand.

I know a lot of people that would love this smaller form factor with a bigger screen.

I would like to see the iPhone SE revamped in 2018. One of Apples best iPhones that's released in the last two years was the iPhone SE. Affordable and has outstanding battery life in a compact form factor.

I still maintain the iPhone 5 was the best phone Apple every released. I will keep on buying the iPhone SE as long as they keep updating it every couple of years. The form factor is perfect for me, and I find it to be more durable then the bigger iPhones (smashed multiple iPhone 6 screens).

I loved the iPhone 4, iPhone 5, sold my iPhone 6 after a year...as soon as the SE came out. Love the SE and hope this imagined upgrade becomes reality. Full screen in the same size factor would be perfection.

a 4.7" screen and the same size case as the current SE?

Sony has done that form factor very successfully with the Xperia Compact series in 4.6", the latest being the XZ1 Compact, even though the phone is lacking in other areas. An iPhone like that would be my next one if it was released.

But you know, the SE only has to be a 1/4 inch wider like the XZ1 Compact to fit a 4.6-4.7" screen. Otherwise those two current phones are the same size.

I do know the SE and the XZ1 Compact are quite similar in size and price point. The Sony may be my next phone, if Apple decides to opt-out of the Compact phone business. In some ways, the XZ1 is a more capable phone than is the SE in both processor and camera. In fact the XZ1’s Snapdragon 835 processor makes it ready for Gigabit LTE, whereas Apple’s chipset is as yet quite there.

In my view, Apple risks losing the compact phone market, if the don’t step up their game. I think the X was rushed to market and has probably drawn resources away from the SE, 8, and 8+. Apple’s focus with the X seems to be focused on market share rather than bringing out their usual trouble free phones.

Sony, on the other hand, brings out phones that look dated but in fact are little powerhouses. In my case, my phone is a tool that I carry in my pocket with my wallet. I don’t play games on it or watch movies in it. I have other Apple products dedicated to those purposes. Just give me a small, robust, powerful compact with a great camera and I’ll be happy.

Best,

YES! please apple!
I have a 5s and I have plans to move the SE, YES! I LOVE SMALL PHONES, I don't want the 6 or even the X; so now I wait to see if they release a new SE. Also like the idea of NOT pay more than $350 for a phone.

No way this "concept" is happening as it would eat into iphone 8 sales.

You’re looking at market demand in the US, where big is king. Apple may be looking at Asia, where the market for smaller phones is stronger. Keep in mind, it will be built in India and India wants to make a big showing with their tech prowess to compete with China.

Just throwing that out there and you very well could be correct.

Good points and I can see why the SE succeeded. Don't get me wrong, I love the look of this concept and would buy it. But it makes the iphone 8 look like a piece of crap and could well turn people away from the crazy priced x as it looks similar (better in my opinion).

This concept is what I would of wanted the X to be as the steel band models were my favorite despite rocking a plus model now.

It depends. There are 3 primary factors that are unique to the SE: lower price, smaller form-factor, headphone jack. Any or all of them are the reason why those of us who bought an SE were drawn to it.

If all 3 are retained in this next SE, then I don't see it making the 8 look any worse than the current SE did for the 6.

Jimmy,

I’m pretty sure you are correct and Apple won’t be competing with itself. Since I use an SE, I’ll be interested in the price point. I was an early adopter and mine is now 2 years old. I’d like to stick with my Apple system but they’re beginning to strain my wallet.

sracer, I’d bet a donut that the SE loses its headphone jack this time. Apple wants to sell their high priced wireless headphones, that, thankfully, don’t fit me.

Except this concept shows a bezel less display which instantly looks better than the 8. If it also receives the same internals it's an 8 killer. The SE was seen as an upgraded 5s, this concept shows a redesign which is why I think it competes with the now dated looking 8.

I'd like to be wrong as this would be a day one purchase.

It would make sense if the supposedly shelved 5.28” OLED iPhone filled this category (possibly replacing the SE), considering the smaller bezels and aspect ratio.

The fact that they may not be going ahead with it is baffling, there is a market of both SE and 4.7” users that would go for a phone in this category.

There is a market for the SE, but it isn’t as large as some make it out to be. SE only accounts for about 3% of iPhones sales, despite being targeted to emerging markets with an aggressively low (for Apple) price point.

Despite what unfounded rumor Kuo comes out with, I don’t see a bezeless OLED SE coming out until FY 2022.

Reluctantly agreed. However, in the spirit of baseless rumors, what if they did this with the body of the iPhone 4?

Apple will eventually advance an OLED iPhone SE, but not until it has flushed ALL LCD iPhones out of it’s product lineup. Look for it in FY2022
