iPhone 6/7/8 4.7 inch battery life sucked. Pretty much averaged 5-6 hours real life screen actual usage (iMessage, Facebook , WhatsApp, safari). Basic stuff people do 70-80% of the time.

I don’t know how they can put A13 processor with same battery and say it’s the same battery life. No matter how “efficient “ the processor is.

I have an iPhone 7 and the only reason to upgrade would be a better camera system. I don't have a storage problem and the device is fast enough for my needs.

How much better is the camera in the new SE versus the iPhone 7? It's not a huge difference I guess, so if I would upgrade, I would definitely buy a iPhone 11 Pro because that's gonna give me a FAR better camera system. It's totally different from the new SE (so the comparison doesn't make any sense) but I see no reason to upgrade from an iPhone 7 to the new SE, maybe not even from an iPhone 6s. I think many people with a 5S/SE/6 will upgrade to the new SE.
well, that being said, there is one difference between 11 Pro and 2020 SE. priceTAG.
I can't drag myself spend over 1k$ for a phone, but getting iphone with the latest chip for 399 ? easy! upgrading from my iphone 8 btw. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

what is not clear though, which single lens camera is there, from iphone 8 + powered with A13 or that's iphone 11 or iphone XR module? 🤔

How much space do you think the 3D Touch layer took? iirc it was less than 0.5mm but maybe someone has definitive numbers.

In any case, it’s a budget iPhone, and the way to keep costs low isn’t to design and build a battery that’s barely bigger than it was.
They put bigger batteries starting from the XR, then the 11 models after removing 3D Touch. I know they made the phones thicker too but a slightly larger battery wouldn’t take much effort.
Going from the 5S to SE, the SE has a bigger battery even being the same thickness.
Just a thought

when will they stop referring to flash as ROM? it is beyond stupid.

I will be upgrading from the iphone 8 - the 8 doesnt do dual sim/esim and also doesnt have band 71 for tmobile. You have to remember there are other things under the hood that matter to a lot of people.

I was wondering if the SE had an eSim?
Wifi6 is nice for a low end phone!

Tim Cook is all about profit first and hence, the product is not so great that the battery life does not have any major improvement over its predecessor.

I have a 6s and my battery life is much better than 5-6 hours.

To me this is a phone for:
- new users
- old SE users
- users who have much older phones and cannot afford or want to spend much

do NOT use the wireless charging on it :)
I have an iPhone 11 Pro max and I use only the 5V small charger.
My wife started using wireless charging on hers and her battery health dropped 4%. Mine is still at 100%

Even on the new SE I would not bother with wireless unless needed.

I have an iPhone 11 Pro Max as well and always charge it wirelessly. I've had the phone since it was released.
Battery capacity remains at 103%. (Down from 105% and 10 charge cycles.)

How come the battery is the same but now with more efficient CPU and software Apple advertised that the SE lasts 1 hour or so less than the 8? Something doesn't add up.

Why isn’t there an increase in battery life with the newer processor?
Hard to say why. Maybe because it has 3GB RAM vs. 2GB, the A13 is 2.65GHz vs. 2.39, or because they both use the same screen, which is responsible for a large percentage of power consumption.

I'd disagree. This is just Apple throwing a phone out there that costs them absolutely zero to make to see how many people will buy it because they've slapped a new name on it. "Instead of calling it the iPhone 8 like we've been doing let's call it the iPhone SE and treat it like a spectacular new phone." That's all this is, a cheap cash grab. I love Apple products but I'm not blind to the fact that they are really trying to squeeze people here with a really garbage update to a phone that was already very dated.
You can't hate that much though. It has an A13 Bionic and costs $399. Show me a better phone for $399. (I haven't owned an iPhone since 2012 by the way).

Any chance the Apple smart battery case for the 7/8 will be compatible? The fit should be good, it’s just if it works.

If you charge it to 100% and use it until it dies, it will probably struggle to last 5-6 hours.

Do people really spend 5-6 hours a day staring at that screen? That's really sad.

Not at all. I get about an hour per 10-12% of battery, depending on what I’m doing.

You have more than 6 hours of SOT with the 6S ?
For sure. I don’t use Facebook or turn the screen up to full brightness though. Both of those aren’t conducive to long battery life.

Phones are not just a SoC, I've never understood this obsession with SoC, I mean it would have been better to have a A12 but an OLED screen with smaller border.
Honestly, the S9 is often discounted around 350-400$ and it's a better value BUT it doesn't have iOS which is the real deal there, but that's not the point of the argument wich speak about the spec and not the whole device experience ;)

Oh that's cool, I've got my hand on a 7 and unfortunately the battery was just not good :/
