I grab a new phone every two years. Except this time. The 14 was a let down. I have a 12 and even for it I didn’t see much an upgrade. Looking towards what “we all think” the 15 will be has me hopeful. As my 12 is starting to suffer from wear and tear issues.

Same. Also the fact that apple is offering apple care even on my 12 after the first two years. I can technically keep this for another couple of years.

Why is everybody speculating about dropping demand? Because of that factory shutdown in China, you literally couldn't buy Pro phones in time for the holidays/before the end of the quarter. So don't tell me about phones being so expensive, and people being less interested. They sold every single one they had, of the most expensive phone they make.

(It's still bad news for Apple, though, because a lot of that holiday money just went elsewhere.)
Yes will it be made up this quarter with supply fixing and all those backorders being filled?

This is certainly related to people feeling poorer in this economic/stock-market environment.

However, I find my need to upgrade Apple products diminishing every year due to the "good enough" effect.

Apple needs new product categories.
Yea it's not the device price that most of the issue unless it spiked suddenly. It's that all the needs prices are spiraling out of control and that there's not much exciting anymore since X.

This shouldn’t be viewed as a negative thing. Capitalism is the primary cause of people believing they ‘need’ to upgrade regularly, let alone every year. It would do customers good to realise that they could put their money to better use.
Certainly. People are the problem, not the companies. The average consumer has terrible self control and judgment.

That's it.. iPhone 15s will ship without a cable to make up for the..err.. no, for environmental reasons.. Mother Earth and all .. 🙏

Timmy, on iPhone 15 release, " No cable for you...but stickers included "

How many android users dropped their devices...on the ground or into the sea...and switched to iPhone 🤔

Capitalism is me spending my money the way I want, not the way you think I should be spending my money.

Having said that I upgraded one line to a launch day 14PM, which we love.

I still gave to charity, invested in the market, helped out my kids, paid the bills, took a vacation, etc.

1.400 € in the EU. I had the phone in my hand and I thought "this is too much for a phone, it doesn't make any sense" and the was it. btw a friend bought an android phone next week for 300 € and was amazing in all regards. Apple has a problem, people doesn't see the value of paying that much for a phone anymore.

Android manufacturers have a problem to sell an android phone for more than €300.
You don't have to worry about Apple.

I’m sorry, I don’t understand the question. What are you asking?
I spend several times more on food than I do on my iPhone. I don't understand how buying an iPhone is going to affect my food budget.

You are a poor financial adviser. After 5 years, the iPhone is worth nothing. You lose all value. Changing every two years means less money spent.
$1000 iPhone for 5 years= $200 per year, resell for minimum $100, that's $180 per year.
$1000 iPhone for 2 years= $500 per year, resell around half-price $500, that's $250 per year.

I would agree that maybe every 4 years might be better.
Also an aging iPhone is less prone to be stolen.

The price drop is not linear. Holds the price well up to two years. Then it goes down very hard.
I sold the Iphone 12 PRO MAX losing 30% not 50% of the value.
Besides, changing every two years you have a newer, better phone and it's still under warranty (Europe).

The point is that it's money you otherwise could have saved. One iPhone purchased across a five year span is obviously way less money than five iPhone, or even three iPhones across a five year span. For some people, those few hundred dollars a year do make a difference.

The iPhone 14 family of phones just isn't a compelling of an upgrade, TBH. The only people I know who are upgrading to it have an iPhone 11 or even older, like an 8 or even 7.

After all, you pay several thousand dollars a month for the apartment alone in the US. How can $200 (per year) affect your budget?
Maybe in countries where people earn $500 a month it matters, but nobody buys iPhones there anyway.

Face it- Apl is addicted to iPhone sales. If this trend continues, they’re just going to make future iPhones less durable and supported for shorter periods of time - so we HAVE to upgrade more frequently
