I know so many people using a broken/beat up iPhone 12 or 13 mini who refuse to upgrade to a bigger device. Some shops that still sell the minis sell them at a much higher price than the non-mini versions. It's so weird that Apple claims the demand was too low yet it just makes so much sense to have a smaller phone.

I wish the SE4 would just be like an iPhone 14/15 mini. Most people are begging for a more affordable iPhone, not a bigger one.
My gf decided to stay on the iPhone SE Gen 1. The rest are too big.

Why broken/beaten up? My perfectly functioning, non-broken and non-beaten up 13 Mini is only 2 years old. I’m perfectly happy with using it for a couple of years more. With the way smartphones have been maturing, normal people should replace their phone every 4-5 years, not every two years or even every year. The habit of replacing the phone every year is unhealthy.

“We are not expecting size changes for the ‌iPhone 16‌ and ‌iPhone 16‌ Plus, and these devices will be the same size as the iPhone 15 and ‌iPhone 15‌ Plus.”

Yay!

”However, with the ‌‌iPhone‌‌ 17 and ‌‌iPhone‌‌ 17 Plus in 2025, Apple is expected to also bring the larger 6.27- and 6.86-inch display sizes to its two standard ‌‌iPhone‌‌ models. As a result, expect the entire ‌iPhone‌ 17 lineup to use a taller aspect ratio of 19.6:9.”

Boo!

I have a 15 Plus now and I’m fine with that. But I don’t want anything bigger or heavier.

They’re going the wrong way. I’m not an iPhone mini stan, but the regular size is too big. I think 5.8 or 5.9 would be a sweet spot for me. The iPhone X was 5.8” and it felt sliiiightly too big too, but if you give me the more modern design of today’s iPhones and small bezels, with that screen size would probably be about right.
I really really hope that the increase is paving the way for a 5.8 or 5.9 iPhone Pro with smaller/updated form factor in the near future.

Tabulated form. 6.1" Screens size for 13, 14 and 15 Pro's. 6.3" iPhone 16 Pro.

I think the 15 Pro is a really nice size. Smallest and lightest of the bunch in recent iterations. The 3 mm difference in height and width is about 2 stacked pennies.

They said old Apple was obsessed with thin and light. I want Steve back! 😩
That wasn’t Steve, that was Jony Ive. The Apple released the thinnest iPhone ever, the 6, long after Steve was gone. Most of Apple’s thinnest and lightest products came after Steve (12” MacBook, 2016-2020 13/15/16” MBP, 24” iMac, iPad Air). All of these products were flawed in some ways to attain said thinness; the iPhone 6 bent, the 12” MacBook was painfully underpowered, the MBPs were too powerful/hot for their chassis, etc. Apple lately has been balancing form and function sacrificing thinness and weight for better performance. Steve was also quite good at balancing Jonny’s extreme design tendencies with real world usability needs.

I’m going to miss the 6.1”. 6.3” may be my limit, but it seems like a handy middle ground as I’ve always thought 6.7” isn’t portable enough for my day to day use.
I often find myself wishing there was a middle ground between the regular pro and the Plus. So I hope this is true. Might also eliminate some of the yearly features fragmentation between the two

If Apple is going to introduce a new SE in 2024 or 5, there's no need for the iPhone Mini. It's the size, not the power that drives sales of the smaller phones for the people that want them. I'll ditch my 2020 SE when Apple shows me a new SE the same size, or better yet smaller, with a USB-C port.

Don’t mind the bigger size.
Going from 6s+ to 8+ to 13PM was fine as the dimensions were very similar.
The larger screen helps those with aging eyes, even if one wears RX glasses.
I’d be more worried about the increased price and battery life (iOS of late hasn’t been friendly to batteries).

Well darn... I was thinking about switching from my Samsung Galaxy S22 to the iPhone 16 Pro but now I'm not so sure as the 6.1" size of my S22 is about the tallest I'm willing to go. If I were to opt for the regular iPhone 16, what features would I be missing out on? Anybody here pleased with their iPhone 15 and not regretting a iPhone 15 Pro?

I wonder what apple's reasoning is here, or if they have any. I love the fit in my hand of the current pro, and don't really want it any larger that that. However I'll take the increase in width, as it makes typing easier and more accurate. Hopefully it'll also get us closer to the Font & UI scaling of the 11 & XR, instead of what we've had since the 12 pro.

Apple has not significantly tweaked iPhone screen sizes since the introduction of the ‌iPhone‌ 12 models in 2020, but that's set to change with the 2024 iPhone 16 lineup. The iPhone 16 Pro models will have notably larger display sizes than the current iPhone 15 Pro models. Here's what we know.

iPhone-16-Pro-Sizes-Feature.jpg

According to multiple sources, the ‌iPhone 16 Pro‌ and ‌iPhone 16 Pro‌ Max will feature an increase in display size compared to the iPhone 15 Pro and ‌iPhone 15 Pro‌ Max, measuring roughly 6.3 inches and 6.9 inches, respectively. To be more precise, the ‌iPhone 16 Pro‌ will have a 6.27-inch display (159.31 mm), while the ‌iPhone 16 Pro‌ Max will feature a 6.85-inch (174.06 mm) screen.

With the increase in display size, the dimensions of the iPhone's body will also increase. The ‌iPhone 16 Pro‌ and 16 Pro Max will be slightly taller than their predecessors, while also being somewhat wider.

The larger form factor of the devices will give Apple more internal space for components. The iPhone 16 Pro models could get larger, longer-lasting batteries for example. The display itself could see improvements, too (see below). Besides that, plenty of additional features are rumored.

Display Technology

Apple is weighing up the use of micro-lens technology to maintain or increase the brightness of OLED displays on next year's iPhone 16 models while potentially reducing their power consumption. Micro-lens arrays or MLA uses a uniform pattern of billions of lenses inside the panel to reduce internal reflection. The reflected light increases perceived brightness without increasing power consumption.

Next year's iPhone 16 could feature a more power-efficient display thanks to a new OLED material set that is reportedly being developed by Samsung specifically for Apple.

iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus

We are not expecting size changes for the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus, and these devices will be the same size as the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus. However, with the ‌iPhone‌ 17 and ‌iPhone‌ 17 Plus in 2025, Apple is expected to also bring the larger 6.27- and 6.86-inch display sizes to its two standard ‌iPhone‌ models. As a result, expect the entire iPhone 17 lineup to use a taller aspect ratio of 19.6:9.

iPhone Sizes: A Brief History

  • The Original iPhone to iPhone 4S (2007-2011): The first iPhone, launched in 2007, featured a 3.5-inch screen, a size that Apple maintained up to the iPhone 4S. This screen size was considered quite large at the time compared to many contemporary phones.
  • iPhone 5 to iPhone 5S/SE (2012-2016): With the iPhone 5, Apple increased the screen size to 4 inches. This change addressed the growing consumer trend towards larger screens, allowing for an improved viewing experience while maintaining a comfortable grip.
  • iPhone 6 and 6 Plus (2014): A significant change came with the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, featuring screen sizes of 4.7 inches and 5.5 inches respectively. This move was a response to the burgeoning market of larger smartphones or "phablets." It marked Apple's foray into a segment that competitors like Samsung had been capitalizing on.
  • iPhone 6S to iPhone 8 (2015-2017): The iPhone 6S, 7, and 8 series continued with the same size variants as their predecessors, 4.7 inches for the regular models and 5.5 inches for the Plus models.
  • iPhone X and Beyond (2017-present): With the introduction of the iPhone X in 2017, Apple shifted to a new design paradigm, reducing bezels and introducing notch-based displays. The iPhone X had a 5.8-inch screen, which was a middle ground between the two previous sizes. Subsequent models expanded on this concept, with screen sizes increasing further in variants like the iPhone XS Max, iPhone 11 Pro Max, and later models.
  • iPhone 12 mini & iPhone 13 mini (2020-2021): The iPhone 12 mini was introduced in 2020, and marked the first time since the original iPhone SE that Apple released a new model specifically designed to be smaller and more compact. Featuring a 5.4-inch screen, it catered to users who preferred smaller, more manageable phones that could be easily used with one hand. The iPhone 13 mini continued the trend, however reports and market analysis indicated that the overall demand for such a device was relatively low compared to Apple's larger models, and Apple has not replicated the option in iPhone lineups since.

Like I said, just your average Kat !!

The iPhone X barely fits in a pocket now. Larger sizes become impossible to carry conveniently.
You need big hands and bigger pockets for the largest iPhones... I have the big hands, but no not have the big pockets 😅 Apple seriously need to start petitioning the fashion world...
