Cue all the moaning about the mini 🙄

Bigger size? Bring it on. Everytime apple has released a bigger size iphone the sales have gone through the roof and this will be the same.
If you're only looking at Pro and Pro Max sales, then yes, sales for those versions have increased (at the expense of the regular and Plus versions). But that may have more to do with Apple making new features exclusive to those versions and withholding them from the regular and Plus versions, such as new A series chip or dynamic island only going to Pro and Pro Max while regular and Plus iPhone got the previous generation's A chip or stayed with the notch.

Consumers are choosing the Pro Max more and more because of the premiumization of it by Apple.

  • This year, the iPhone 14 Pro Max, the most expensive of the Cupertino, California, tech giant’s smartphone array, has taken the crown.
  • It reflects a growing shift among consumers toward the more higher-end parts of the market.

But if you look at reports for the iPhone Plus, it wasn't as big a hit as Apple had expected compared to the iPhone mini

I have a feeling my next phone (which will be in a few years, just got a 15 Pro Max) will be a non-Max variant, as by then the size of the non-Max will be as big as the Max is now.

Seriously, pockets aren't getting any bigger, and neither are hands. Why do they keep bumping up the size of the phones? I've already reached a point where nothing more than my phone can fit in my left pocket; if it were any bigger I'd have to get one of those dorky belt clip phone holders that were popular in the 90s.

I am someone election g for a smaller device. I do not want to go bigger than my 12 Mini. Hopefully the next SE manages to keep Face ID and a smaller screen.

That's basically what I want. Slightly larger screen than 13 mini, with Pro cameras
A 'bigger' mini would also be ideal for me as a work phone. I decided to get a 15 Pro Max as a personal phone this year, and it's stretching the limit of tolerability in my trousers/jeans and is too heavy/big for suit trousers I feel.

Starting to think sticking with mini was a mistake.

By the time I’ll finally need to upgrade I’ll walk into a store and I’ll see people with huge hands and strong forearms holding what looks like iPads. I’ll be like “where’s the new iPhones” and they’ll say “these ARE the new iPhones”. I’ll grab one but I can’t take the size or weight. Turns out everyone else grew with the iPhones whereas I remained untrained and unprepared.

I’m a few months shy of 2 years with the SE3, and after lugging around multiple generations of significantly larger iPhones I’m still loving the smaller size and form factor it offers. So this is what i’ll stick with until there’s another SE/Mini sized offering.

The issue for Apple is they are competing with the other phone manufacturers who are also constantly introducing bigger phones.

Not only, we should also consider that most modern content (apps, web apps and sites) is optimised for 6.1” and larger screens.

There was a massive jump in sales for the introduction of the iPhone 6/6 Plus, but that was not repeated. Their sales haven't noticeably climbed absent other confounding factors since; big phablet phones are the norm these days, not the exception, and there's plenty of options.

I guess we'll see in another 2 years or so if there's a reasonably-sized option left. I'd be happy to pay pro phone prices if they offered smaller phones, which I think was one weakness of the 12 and 13 mini (plenty of people might want a small phone, but they aren't willing to make all the sacrifices Apple required such as the worse camera system and battery life.)

Why broken/beaten up? My perfectly functioning, non-broken and non-beaten up 13 Mini is only 2 years old. I’m perfectly happy with using it for a couple of years more. With the way smartphones have been maturing, normal people should replace their phone every 4-5 years, not every two years or even every year. The habit og replacing the phone every year is unhealthy.
What I mean is that some people I know probably would have bought a new phone by now judging from the state of their device but they like the form factor so much that they'd rather keep using it for as long as possible, since there is nothing they can upgrade to at that size.

But I agree that a phone should easily last 4-5 years. I get the battery replaced then give my 3 year old phones to my parents and they easily get another 3 years out of them, often totaling 6 years for an iPhone.

Maybe when Apple does a folding iPhone it'll be the size of a mini and just unfold for larger viewing. :p

“We are not expecting size changes for the ‌iPhone 16‌ and ‌iPhone 16‌ Plus, and these devices will be the same size as the iPhone 15 and ‌iPhone 15‌ Plus.”

Yay!

”However, with the ‌‌iPhone‌‌ 17 and ‌‌iPhone‌‌ 17 Plus in 2025, Apple is expected to also bring the larger 6.27- and 6.86-inch display sizes to its two standard ‌‌iPhone‌‌ models. As a result, expect the entire ‌iPhone‌ 17 lineup to use a taller aspect ratio of 19.6:9.”

Boo!

I have a 15 Plus now and I’m fine with that. But I don’t want anything bigger or heavier.
I don't see why they would get rid of those slightly smaller screen sizes, and I hope this isn't true. I'm not sure if we have as much to go on for the 17, "expected" sounds like it may be mere conjecture.

Especially since I thought that the Plus wasn't selling well. Aren't the Plus sales almost as bad as the mini's were?

it’s so crazy to me thinking that just a little more than a decade ago we were really vibing with a 3.5 inch screen

And who knows.. another decade from now maybe the phablets the majority are carrying around today will be reflected upon by some with a similar bewilderment.

Absolutely miserable. Too big! Too heavy!

I know I'm in the minority but I want my phone sub-6", preferably sub 5.5". When my mini dies I'm going back to a flip phone.
I held a flip phone in my hand recently and was struck by how liberating it felt, but I'm not sure I could really go back from iPhone...

I have no idea what iPhone Plus sales are and, despite the conjecture by some on this site, I suspect no one else does either. All I can say is that the Plus works perfectly for me in terms of size, weight, features and price. If the next phones are larger I will have to consider them carefully. My next phone could end up being an SE - or something from another brand.

And, finally, for anyone curious, I find the Plus fits in every pocket that the base iPhone does. I am done with the extra weight, higher price and unneeded features of the Pros. The Plus is lighter and has excellent battery life - better than the base iPhone or base Pro.

Display Zoom in iOS switches to a lower logical resolution, so apps do have to work with that regardless of the larger screen. This means you could have a smaller iPhone with that lower resolution as the regular resolution.

If Apple is going to introduce a new SE in 2024 or 5, there's no need for the iPhone Mini. It's the size, not the power that drives sales of the smaller phones for the people that want them. I'll ditch my 2020 SE when Apple shows me a new SE the same size, or better yet smaller, with a USB-C port.
The next SE is rumored to be based on the regular iPhone 14, sadly. No more smaller iPhones.
