haha.. Apple probably wants to be close to the action

See thats the problem, it is not a function. It is a defect. Apple selling a half assed workaround for a major design flaw as a feature might work for you. But most people see right through it.

The fact you have a slow phone when such an issue arises. Do users really want their batteries killed faster in favor of performance always.. The answer here is Yes.

But why would users wanna run on ageing batteries you ask ? I have no idea..

I was thinking of Apple v Samsung, wasn't N. Calif courts were the only ones to rule in favor of Apple, while their suits were dismissed in multiple jurisdictions the world over?

Link - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apple_Inc._v._Samsung_Electronics_Co.

No. They each won and lost in various jurisdictions. For example, Apple won in Germany and Samsung won in Korea. But the cases were all different, involving different patents based on different laws, so it’s not surprising that one party didn’t win in every jurisdiction.

The Australians don't cheat, and get found out!?

Ask Smith, Warner and management!

Apple dont use sandpaper in any product to tamper with performance :)
(Oh dear and Cricket Australia don't seem to think there is any longterm damage done to the brand ... people will make references to this for years to come. Their careers are tainted. The game is tainted. Or country has been tainted.)

Instead of a payout the court should order Apple to sign all versions of iOS or optimize software for older devices. This one software fits all option is not woking out. One can only dream right?

Go get em!

Think it's bad now? Just wait until those Apple chips start going in your $3k Mac and they suddenly slow down after 3 years.

Ignore this comment, last laptop I bought from Apple is MBPr 6 years ago with only 8Gib Ram and still runs Calendar, Messages, Preview(PDF),Photos HD home movie, iTunes HD movie,Parallels Windows 10 Pro with CAD, Ashlar Vellum Argon Solid model simultaneously.

Always the best benefit of buying Apple, they last 8-12 years and still usable. Still have working 10 yr old 24" iMac and still works great and runs CS3 quite well.

A benefit is not always of a monetary kind. If Apple are forced to stop this BS, then I as a user both new and existing will benefit from this lawsuit.
The bad publicity already took care of that and is way more effective than a lawsuit.

I hope something positive comes of all this. It already has as throttling has been turned off with iOS 11.3, but I hope Apple learns a lesson about shady and dishonest business practices. I'm not holding my breath though as I suspect the main lesson they learned is how to better avoid getting caught.

You get better and more informative battery software and cheap battery replacements. You already won from this. Enjoy it.

After the terribly slow experience with my iPhone 6 on iOS 11, I'm not getting a new iPhone unless it's free or heavily discounted.

I don't know if it's just me, but the quality of their "geniuses" has dropped. I've only had to deal with them a couple of times but I remember the service being impeccable back in 2008-10.
. Agreed. My daughter knows more about the Apple products than most "geniuses" I believe their hourly pay has been slowly going down and thus the quality as well.

Seriously though. My Galaxy phone batteries go bad every generation and my phone turns into a turd, but Samsung doesn't seem to care and they sure aren't going to now!

At least Apple seems to care though they're approach isn't that great.

a new battery won’t make a 6 equal to a X.

No, but it would have made the customers current iPhone 6 run as good as new again, which may well have been all they wished for.
That their current phone still ran well, and not was being (at the time) secretly throttled, which led them to believe, incorrectly that the phone was no longer able to run well, which led them to feel their only option was to invest a lot of money into a new expensive upgrade.

Imagine that happening with say a car.
Oh my car is running slow, burning lots of fuel also, almost unusable.
You go the the car dealer and explain this, and have the car maker done anything, they tell you no.
So you then feel, well, I need a car that runs well, so I guess I'll have to get a new car.
Then a few weeks later you find out, you were not told the truth, and actually, a new battery/air-filter & service would have had your car back and running well again for you.

Would you be upset with the dealer/maker?

Give me a break. Stop being so glib. As if Australia would handle this so much better?

It's not like this is an open and shut case anyway. You actually have to PROVE wrongdoing in America. You don't just get to speculate and pitchfork and see someone burned at the stake, even if it's probably true. We have this thing called burden of proof.

And by the way, it's one of the many reasons why America is the best country in the world.
By what possible measure could you come to that conclusion? Setting aside military, name one worldwide ranking of countries that supports your position.

That is positive news for Apple. They will get a judge and jury sympathetic to the hometown company (if it goes to trial).

Problem is, it’ll likely be a jury trial and the key decision will be in the hands of the jurors. Jury selection will be interesting.

- Do you use an iPhone? Yes. Out!
- Do you use an Android smartphone? Yes. Out!
- Do you use a smartphone? Yes. Out!
- For what’s left, do you know what a phone is? Yes, I like those with a rotary dial. Ok, you are in... Now, let me tell you about Lithium battery properties as used in smartphones... Huh?

Yes, they’ll be the ones who’ll make the guilty vs not guilty decision, people who’ll judge.

LOL, what a pathetic legal environment!

Yes, where one would sue over a hot coffee, incompetently spilled by oneself. Take some responsibility as the world doesn’t owe you.

They were also filed in several other countries, possibly even in Australia

lots of folks in South Korea

and others....
The legal profession learning how to money grab from their American colleagues. As for Sth Korea, well, shadows of Samsung...

Define ‘optimise’. Apple’s earlier move could well be considered to have optimised older iPhones with aged batteries to perform more reliably ie. Optimised.

Case closed!

These lawsuits are an example of what America has become.
You mean that finally America is a place where people don't buy everything they have been told?
That they want truth?

Fight for the truth and for your rights, fight right and fair, but fight!

In this case it’s Apple that was in the wrong. All they had to do was tell people.
They did. Additionally no one reads the bug notes for the iOS release. Literally everyone knows an old battery in old hardware is not as powerful as a brand new battery and brand new hardware. What Apple did was standard practice across multiple industries to prevent shutdowns and explosions...and other unfortunate battery behavior.

BS!

Funny enough, Apple has removed that article, but it is valid still. A dead battery makes the computer run at reduced speed not to overload the power adapter.
Ummm.... *facepalm* You just negated your original argument.

If a computer slowdown is a function of battery health then there is no point to this lawsuit because that is the nature of computers to begin with. The power surges will degrade device faster if Apple didn't slow them down to the level of speed they could handle for the particular task at hand. That's the reason they implemented this fix.

Cheese... America is the #1 cheese producer in the world and, let's be honest, cheese is the best food in all the known (and unknown) universes. So there's that... :p

Be honest though. Have you ever used the word ‘glib’ before zuckerberg this week?

14th in education and 37th in health care. The US is nowhere near the best country in the world.
