Thanks. That's exactly what I have done. It was an expensive lesson but my new phone is now insured and I have mobileme to help me track it down should this happen again. Although I really hope it doesn't.

My network took care of blocking the sim and the handset but these thieves are so well trained they probably no a way around it.

And anyone on here saying "It's your problem", I really hope you never have your phones stolen but if you do, the last thing you want to here is "It's your fault". It was stolen.... I didn't lose it. I wasn't careless. Sneaky ****ing thieves stole it from me.

you know, my wife had lost her phone a few times...

the second time i put the phone in a otterbox defender....the guy found it and i tracked it on mobile me and it turned up in a pawn shop, when i got there to get it they said the guy left it there after trying to sell it but they did not buy it because they said the did not even know how to get the sim out of it.

defender case makes it look though it does not have a sim card....lol

Lol. Thanks for the tip.

Unfortunately mine had a bumper on it. And now I have to wait weeks for a new bumper to be shipped because I can't even buy one in store. Typical

Hahahaha! That really cheered me up. Ireland is in Europe. As is Northern Ireland.

And yes, mobileme is now officially part of my life and my new iPhone.

Learn something new every day :D. I musta been thinking of Scotland, I get those two confused sometimes.

Apple does offer this service to a certain extent. It's called Find My iPhone and it's part of MobileMe. Kind if sucks that it cost $99 if that's the only part of the MM service you would use, but it works pretty great.

LOL! That sounds like a flawless plan. Too bad I only got mobileme after my "incident". Next time though, I'm going with your plan :p

btw .. make sure you were masks... and catch him slippin like at night when he least expects it.. dont beat him to death or youll go to jail.. just enough to teach him a lesson.. punch him in the gut or somthing.. .. and steal his clothes.. so his but naked .. tht will teach him a lesson

Classic. Scotland is also in Europe! Where the hell are you? Please don't tell me you're American and underline again yet another stereotype!

I do live in America and where I got this idea was from a guy who lived next door to me who was either Scottish or Irish(don't remember which) and was insistent that Scotland/Ireland was not a part of Europe, that it was Great Britain. I never checked into it, obviously. Oh well.

Do you really think Apple wants a police officer coming to each Apple Store in order to investigate each incident?

Or can you imagine how many people would sell there iPhones, then report them stolen and try to get them back?

This comment makes no sense. And I clearly remember back in my Sprint / Nextel days. You could have the ESN blocked so the phone couldn't be registered anymore. Different for SIM based phones, but still.

At a minimum phones reported stolen should not be able to serviced.

Did you think that Great Britain was its own continent? Have you taken geography at all in school? (Africa, Antarctica, Asia, Australia, Europe, North America, South America)

I'm not trying to rip on you really but it is basic geography.....You do know that Mexico is part of North America right?

I have to agree with Apple on this. What if the thief sells it to someone else, should the buyer really be punished because the seller originally stole the phone? No I don't think so. Really sucks you got your phone stolen but your anger at Apple is misdirected.

No, yes and yes. :)

Apple can't seem to hang onto their own iPhone 4 either, and when they do, they can't seem to hold it the RIGHT WAY.

So join the club!

Apple products are not cheap and the service does not match the price of the products. Unfortunately, I love the iPhone so I have no choice but to put up with it.

And there, in a nutshell, is the stereotypical Apple addict. You'll gripe and complain to high hell about their prices, service, arrogance, etc., but when push comes to shove, you'll gladly open your wallet for them every time. You DO have a choice of whether to put up with it or not.

man apple is just ruining your life huh. Why buy any more of their products with so much animosity floating around?

oh yeah, as far as Apple not being able to flag something stolen, well, I guess. Powermax has a little database but it's not exhaustive nor enforcable. //ot// I would like Apple to be able to atleast deny warranty to my expensive hardware but then again, people would wonder "well, I reported my hardware stolen...now what?" and expect Apple to recover the article if it's brought in for warranty service. what length can we really expect Apple to go when faced with a situation? Have you seen how scrawny some (not all) of the genii are? They won't risk bodily harm trying to recover stolen hardware from some thug who clearly doesn't give a damn.
It's easier for them to just not deal with it.

MobileMe and a password is your best bet. If Apple and ATT worked together to allow us to lock down the iPhone for good and maintain a gps ping even if the sim is removed, i'd pay another $99/yr for the privilege.

I mean there is a perfectly good iPhone out there somewhere and you are not going to get it back, so you want Apple to make it e-waste just so you can feel better about yourself. Sounds vengeful to me

BTW, how can you prove it's stolen vs. you just selling it?

Cynical much?

Geez calm down! So basically you are saying its fine if it was stolen as long as its being used "properly" by the thief and not just gathering dust? FYI - the resale value of iPhones in general probably never have them turning up at landfills/e-waste.

Your whole thinking is flawed - if my iPhone is stolen, YES - i would want to prevent the phone from ever being used in whatever way possible. You think I paid £600 for some strangers benefit? If phones could be blocked (as the original poster mentioned) perhaps it would make people think twice about stealing them in the first place. Anyways since she has reported the IMEI that is all anyone can do.

Doing that would completely destroy the resale value for iPhones; the risk of buying a used, but blacklisted phone would be way too high.

if only OP had refrained from saying "Apple useless" maybe responses here would have been more rational.

I think it's a good idea for Apple UK could easily make a stolen iPhone registry. And to prove something was stolen they must submit a copy of the police report.

And if someone legitimately bought a second hand iPhone, they could show email or SMS correspondence from the original owner. And if an unfortunate buyer unwittingly bought stolen goods, I think by UK law, it goes to the original owner.
