Make a render without the camera bump. It's already thicker so there is plenty of space.

Most of these comments seem to be focused on an upgraded or premium feel from existing Pro models, but to me the Ultra wasn't released as a premium product, but more of a rugged product. So the render fits but in my opinion it should be thicker, to include a larger battery, like the Apple Watch ultra.

Just not a fan of that rendering and the rounded back and sides. I like the more sharp shape of the 14 Pro far more
This. The flat sides of the 12, 13, 14, and earlier models (4, etc.) is the superior shape for a phone. It should never change. They can improve the internals, change the screen to a different type, change to USB-C (yuk). But please always have flat sides for evermore.

this seems eerily spot on…are you a time-traveller? 🧐😆

Apple is jealous of Samsung's Fold4 (The Flip4 is trash) in that Samsung can sell a $1200+ phone (with no discounts) at decent volume. But not enough to rush it out before its ready. Apple's foldable phone pricing would most likely start at $1400 and go up with increased storage - it will also include the best camera, more memory than the Pro, etc.

If Apple can't increase iPhone sales volumes, they'll increase the iPhone portfolio average selling price (ASP). To price the Pro any higher would be difficult beyond the $100 bump it's getting this year. Beyond that, the (easiest) way to increase iPhone ASPs is to offer an Ultra model.

Not sure this is worth an article. The reason the Watch has those designs is because it is intended to be rugged, as a wearable fitness and "adventure" device. Taking the design language and applying it to a completely different device just seems lazy and not exactly news worthy.

I feel that an “Ultra” version of iPhone would be a satellite phone, but I don’t see how Apple gets that into a form factor they like, unless sat phones no longer need the big protruding antenna.

What he got wrong was the sides, they should still be flat, not bulbous, and the power button looks like a wart, it should be more flush like the current one. Also the camera lenses should look totally different, that design is old and the 15-20x periscope lens won’t look like that.

And those bezels, yikes, get rid. Also the Face ID and front facing camera should be hidden behind the screen by the time the iPhone 16 ultra comes out.

all fair points—I do think cosmetics are a big reason why Apple would go portless, but you’re clearly in a position to foresee the issues with such a design. I could spitball for days on how they would have some kind of diagnostics port (under removable side buttons, under-display…lmao, behind the camera somehow? 😂 jk on the last one) but I’m simply not qualified to do so.

I’ll throw in my own concern for good measure: the fact that I still do full backups to my computer. doing that wirelessly is a big 😵‍💫 of an idea to me. unless they can incorporate data transfer into MagSafe…even that, I don’t think, could ever match the power of a simple port.
The only solution would be a mag-safe like link with contacts on the back. Like the connector for the keyboard. This is a typical battle between aesthetics and practicality.

Tim Cook on stage, today we present you the next revolution to the iPhone line up, it’s called the iPhone Thicc and I would like to show it to you, no that is not me excited to see you it’s the new iPhone Thicc. Drops phone on stage without a case it looks unblemished and says it can take any form of accidental incidents and we think you will love it. 😝

I love it when designers do this. They just take what exists and literally modify it into a new product. It's a phone it not going to look exactly like the Apple Watch Ultra, jeez

I find this concept interesting. I have wanted Apple to make a pro model (in my perspective) for many years. The strive for thinner, thinner, thinner phones... and average battery life is something I have loathed for a long time.

Ultra watch has some function beyond its chunky appearance...
  • Stronger and Lighter frame
  • Revised shape to accommodate a flat screen so that it can be more waterproof
  • bigger battery to last longer
  • more buttons = more function
  • slightly larger screen = more useful.
Cons include price and physical size.

I would think an ultra phone would follow the same pattern. It's not about what it looks like (which is the concept of this thread), but it is about what more it can do...

  • 2.5 day battery with lots of use PLEASE. might need to double that battery size. yup, double!
  • a shell designed to take a hit and have no need for a case. might be titanium with a silicone glaze applied or whatever magical thing apple wants to do to it. A serviceable and strong as possible screen with no requirement for a screen protector. All these things mean the device is thicker, that's ok. Corners have some shock absorbtion 'thing' built in. reactive armor. I dunno.
  • assuming water proof rating is significantly better which means it can be used outdoor for other things and has a built in...
  • mountable (thinking with outdoor activity stuff) mounted to... kayak, ultra light, mountain bike, golf cart, whatever. This ultra device is solid enough you are not afraid to use it for partially risky activity.
Like ultra, it's ~50% more money for stronger materials and is physically larger with super charged batter storage. That's what I would want from it anyway!

I like it, i think it would feel great in hand. Very different look overall from the current design language.
