Sorry if this has been asked and clarified before, but I have Verizon iPhone 5 which from what I understand comes unlocked.

Does that mean if I put in a AT&T nanosim I will be able to use HSPA+ AND their LTE network?

Thanks!

No, your phone lacks the LTE bands to work on AT&T. So just HSPA+.

Thanks for the response! I'm a little confused, I thought the iPhone 5 was a world phone meaning hardware wise each one is identical.

Nope, there are several models all with differing bands for LTE coverage in different parts of the world.

ok well out of curiosity i bought an unlock code from unlock fusion and i got my confirmation email this morning! i put in the tmobile sim and it picks up the signal just fine it even says T-Mobile in the network. so those guys are legit!:D

one question though is anybody actually using their iphone 5 with tmobile? if so how is the signal/data speed?

Great! I used them for my unlock as well. It really depends on your area what data speeds you will get with tmobile. They are re farming thier towers to be compatible with iPhone 4G but I think its really only up in big cities so far. I got edge service when I plugged into T mobile where I live.

Yeah I feel the same way. The onslaught and amount of people making serious bank doing this is going to prompt some negative attention for sure.

Who knows. I know some people making $2000/day or more on this.

SMASH - you say you know people making $$$ doing this. How are they entering the IMEI #'s? If you goto AT&T page you can do it for free but you must fax a copy of original receipt. How are these guys entering all the IMEI's????????

Thanks, good find! Unfortunately it's too rich for my blood :(

Sorry bro.

The manager lied to you or was clueless on how it works.
The nano sim has nothing to do with you getting 2G, 3G or 4G(HSPA+) speeds on Tmobile.
Tmobile has to refarm their network on your location for their 3G frequencies on the 1900 band for your iphone to connect using 3G or 3G+.

T-Mobile isn't making any promises for certain markets on the refarming. All they confirmed is that Las Vegas is 75% done and that they will have most of the refarming done by the end of the year. According to iPhone users in Las Vegas it is reflected very well. If you mean LA as in Los Angeles you can check where it has been spotted on http://www.airportal.de. There are probably more areas but the progress made through September has been pretty fast. I think T-Mobile can get the refarming in most major areas by January, which is the only thing they have said.

I ordered a unlock code from unlock-fusion yesterday, so what's next? I send my IMEI info. I don't need my phone unlock but it won't hurt to have it in case I sell my iphone.

Just got mine from unlock_fusion

:D so excited.

Moreso than when I got my 4S I bought off Craigslist unlocked through AT&T directly (I was positive it was on contract, it still might have been, just "lost in the system")

I remember when IMEI unlocks were like $150-200. And ultrasn0w. And GEVEY Sims.

Now no more. Hop on this while you can

I used this listing too, $6.75!

Check your email.

After I bought my unlock yesterday I was immediately sent an email. From there, you logon with the information provided and then enter your IMEI to their site.

It took 18 and half hours for my "12-24 hour processing" to go through.

Just to confirm, we do not need to restore if we dont want to correct? It is just purely for visual gratification?

So theoretically I can unlock through eBay, not restore, then 3 months from now when I'm over seas I can just pop in a sim I buy over there and I'm good to go?

Correct

Unlock Fusion worked great for me on my 4S. Thanks to everyone in the thread for posting their experiences!

I purchased it from ebay at 5 pm and got the unlock email at 10am the next day.

If you were to get your phone unlocked in this method, and then have it swapped (due to warranty work or whatever) am I correct that you'd have to pay and unlock the replacement phone due to it being a different IMEI #? I wonder if you could tell Apple it was unlocked and, once they verify, give you an unlocked phone as a replacement...

I've always wondered about this too

Someone on this site posted that this did happen with them. They had their iPhone unlocked by a company on e-bay, but had to swap the phone out for some reason, explained that their original phone was unlocked and got an unlocked phone in exchange. I'm guessing that this is possible because the phone shows up as 'unlocked' on Apple's server- but this is just a guess and I've not had the experience personally.

Some stores will give unlocked phones, some won't.

Also, I'd suggest putting in a tmobile sim card and verifying it's unlocked if you don't want to restore. Better to be sure when the case is still fresh.

Interesting, thanks for the input.

I'm tempted to do this..it's inexpensive and could prove useful if/when I travel internationally (living in Detroit, I make frequent trips to Canada) but I do wonder of any repercussions (from AT&T or Apple) this could have...breaking any kind of TOS or EULA or something.
