So I don't understand or know much about unlocks but if I call AT&T to unlock my new 5 (read a few reports of them doing so) will it still be being used on my AT&T contract or does unlocking it mess with that? And will I be able to use it on another network such as Verizon if I ever leave AT&T? (Or eventually sell it haha)

Att will only unlock it if you fulfilled your 2 year agreement or paid an ETF. Unlocking just lets you use your phone on any gsm carrier in the world. No you will not be able to use it on Verizon be cause they use CDMA.

Right, I called just to see (because I've read some reports on them doing it anyway) and the CS rep said that basically unless I paid the ETF I wouldn't be able to unlock it.

I'm tempted to try the unlock_fusion method that people here have been posting about, but it just seems slightly shady...like, I know it'll work (plenty of reports saying so) but I just wonder what the repercussions would be from our standpoint - will AT&T relock the phones? Will they catch us and force us all to pay an ETF and/or terminate our service? Will it mess with our warranty (AppleCare+ or standard) if we need to replace the phones (will Apple look up and give us an unlocked one, or will they question it and either give us a locked device or not replace it at all)? These are the questions...because honestly, $6.75 for an unlock just seems too good to be true and if this guy has access to some Apple/AT&T database...it clearly isn't fully on the up and up.

Unlocks on eBay have been known to be relocked. I do provide unlocking service if you need it.

I have a Sprint 4S. What are the advantages of getting it unlocked (or is it already?). What are the disadvantages? I've had a 4s for a year now but never explored unlocking. Sorry for the newbie question....but I don't see what I would gain on CDMA.

The Sprint 4S has GSM radios that I believe Sprint will unlock if you ask them. This will allow you to use local SIMs when you travel other areas with GSM.

You need to update your information or stop making such basic statements. While Verizon's 3G system is CDMA, they are also LTE now. But you are correct in saying an AT&T iPhone 5 won't work on Verizon....but NOT because they use CDMA but because they use a different band of LTE.

My bad on LTE bands still it wouldn't work so don't get your panties in a bunch.

No panties bunched up here...just hate false information....esp when people provide limited information on CDMA because they don't know enough about it.

Free iPhone 5 unlock

When I bought my iPhone 5 from AT&T i took it home and restored it, and its now unlocked. My iPhone 4S i submitted a form to AT&T they emailed me about 6 days later saying its unlocked. Tested it today works on Tmobile

I dont understand why people are paying for these unlocks, especially for older devices or ones that dont have a contract. You just call up your carrier and they do it in 5 minutes....

I bet these people do the exact same thing....they get your IMEI number ask you for your carrier call them up and charge you 40 bucks for something you could have done yourself...hahaha

I think a lot of people have tried doing that and not been successful for whatever reason. But I kind of doubt the online services are just calling AT&T and asking that a certain IMEI number be unlocked...

It works. I just came back from a trip to the UK and just before leaving I had unlock_fusion unlock my ip5.

I used a data only sim by Three and had 3G service my entire time there.

Attached should be a photo of my phone with the Three sim in it. i Popped out my AT&T and popped in the Three sim. You'll see it roamed to AT&T here and notice the carrier line: Three.

The fusion unlock on eBay worked for me today on my iPhone 5 (AT&T). I purchased it last night, sent IMEI last night & it was unlocked this morning. I tried Simple Mobile & it worked, albeit we only have Edge in my area. I just tried it on a hunch. I will probably unlock my other iPhone 4S devices & sale them as unlocked now.

I used unlock_fusion on both iPhone 4's that we have. In less than 3 hours they were both unlocked.
Worked perfectly.

I'd recommend them.

this is the first time I've heard this. anyways, how can you provide any more of a secure guarantee than them?

A lot of dealers have told me some have relocked. I can't guarantee since I'm not doing it myself I'm just the middle man. Since its dirt cheap on eBay it's not a big risk if it did relock up.

My family is planning a trip to Italy this month. Does anyone know if they sell nano-sim cards for the Iphone 5 yet Italy? Just wondering before I unlock my Iphone 5 because I heard their is a shortage in the US.

I bought a Simple Mobile sim on ebay to test out the unlock cause I didnt feel like doing a restore and resync everything back to get the Congradulations message. Simple mobile is a TMobile MVNO btw.
Here's 99 cent micro sim that I had to cut down to nanosim:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/290669123380?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649
Stick the sim in, first it said no sim, then no service then the Simple Mobile name came up on the top corner.
Now Im 100% my i5 is factory unlocked thanks to my bro Unlock_Fusion.

Thanks for pointing out that link. I just ordered one as well.

I just used my current AT&T sim as you restore you will get a confirmation from iTunes tha it has been unlocked. Also you can go here it will tell you the status of your phone.

http://www.unlockboot.com/2011/06/free-imei-checker-with-simlock-status-fixed.html?m=1

That page doesn't seem to be accurate for checking unlocks. I unlocked my phone via eBay last weekend and these 2 sites show it as unlocked. The site you provided shows it as locked. I'll have to check my wife's phone since I haven't unlocked it yet to see what these 2 sites say about it.
