That page doesn't seem to be accurate for checking unlocks. I unlocked my phone via eBay last weekend and these 2 sites show it as unlocked. The site you provided shows it as locked. I'll have to check my wife's phone since I haven't unlocked it yet to see what these 2 sites say about it.

Both of these sites are finally reporting mine correctly. That wasn't the case a week ago.

Actually I got my wife to message me her IMEI and the dev.mk site says it's unlocked which it definitely ISN'T. The other site, iphoneox, correctly says it's locked as well as another checker from a seller's eBay page which I found.

The only reason I'm concerned is that when my phone was unlocked, I never saw the iTunes message even though I followed the directions exactly.

Edit: Ebay seller with checker is unlock_fusion.

Got mine unlocked by unlock fusion , iphone5,32 gig ,black yesterday. It took about 10 hours. Got it off eBay. It cost me 7.48 minus my eBay bucks I earned cost me 1.48. Haven't hooked up to iTunes yet to see if I get the unlocked box yet.Don't really need it unlocked just did it because apple or AT&T piss me off telling me what I can do with the phone I bought. Plus it may get me a few extra bucks if and when I try to sell this phone.

My Unlock

Thanks to all for this thread. I have an ATT iPhone 4S.

I went to http://www.ebay.com/itm/PERMANENT-U...366?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item19d57ed496 and ordered the unlock at $8.99. 12 hours later I received an unlock email.

Checking this out at http://dev.mk/iphone-simlock-status-imei-checker/ and http://www.iphoneox.com/ confirmed my unlock. Both these sites had previously shown 'locked'. Easy:)

Heading to work for an extended period in China in a few weeks so this is important to me.

Quick question

After you order the unlock and get the confirmation email, is there a way to unlock the device without restoring it?

From what I've read on here you can reset network settings and that will do it or not really do anything because phone is unlocked.Try a t mobil sim in it.I would think you would have to do a restore to actually unlock phone. But maybe not.Anybody on here that's got an unlock give us some info on what they did?

You need to update your information or stop making such basic statements. While Verizon's 3G system is CDMA, they are also LTE now. But you are correct in saying an AT&T iPhone 5 won't work on Verizon....but NOT because they use CDMA but because they use a different band of LTE.

And all voice calls on Verizon are still handled by CDMA. So it would be correct to say 1. ATT iphone 4/4S/5 will not work on verizon because of Lack of CDMA support/activation in the Radio, 2. Different LTE bands on iphone 5 for LTE, 3. Lack of whitelist from Verizon itself.

Someone posted if you use a different carrier sim and plug it into iTunes while connected to the Internet for a few minutes you should get the iTunes confirmation. I have not tried this yet it's worth a shot.

Hmm... Seems like I'm not the one that needs to be updated. Thanks for the info!

Agreed. Nice addition of the whitelist.

If you have a different carrier SIM and the phone recognizes it, you're done. That is your confirmation. There is no need to plug it into iTunes after that.

You need iTunes to unlock. If you don't want to restore your phone just insert different carrier sim and plug into iTunes and wait a few mins then iTunes will confirm that it's unlocked. As I read someone has done it this way without restoring.

I did the ebay fusion unlock for my iPhone 5 and received the unlock confirmation email in less than an hour. Haven't hooked it up to iTunes yet as I really dont want to restore if I dont have to. Will try to get a Tmobile sim today.

No, there is no need for iTunes to unlock. iTunes is only used to confirm the unlock. Plenty of users on here have just dropped a SIM into their phone after the unlock without ever using iTunes.

Look back, Applejuiced made a post confirming this recently.

You don't have to. Just drop in the T-Mobile SIM and let us know.

After the unlock is complete, you don't need to restore using iTunes. You can drop a t-mo SIM in and it will work...only after activating the phone again over WiFi though. So, those who skip the iTunes restore will need to have access to WiFi to activate the phone again on a non-AT&T SIM, i.e., each and every time a non-AT&T SIM is used.

This may not be the best thing if you are stuck in country with a local SIM but without access to WiFi to activate your phone. To avoid getting stuck like this, it would be best to do a full restore using iTunes prior to traveling outside the US where you are unsure of WiFi accessibility.

If you were to get your phone unlocked in this method, and then have it swapped (due to warranty work or whatever) am I correct that you'd have to pay and unlock the replacement phone due to it being a different IMEI #? I wonder if you could tell Apple it was unlocked and, once they verify, give you an unlocked phone as a replacement...

confirmed that apple won't replace your phone with an unlocked model.
I asked them when they were replacing my phone and they said to talk to my carrier about getting it unlocked again.

Are you sure about this? How did you figure this out? Also, what do you mean by, "each and every time?" Does that mean each time I take the SIM out and then put it back in? Or each time I take the SIM out and put a DIFFERENT SIM in?

Thanks in advance.

Not saying you are wrong, but is this documented somewhere?

I've been more concerned about giving people directions on confirming that their phones are unlocked more than anything else.

That sucks.
Why does it have to be that hard?
Every time you get your iphone replaced you have to chase the carrier to unlock it again? Get put on hold, having to argue with them and show them proof and waste time and energy for something that should be as simple as looking up an IMEI and replacing the particular device with one that's also unlocked.

That's not true in my case, I DFU and upgrade my 4s to ios6, meet the buyer and use his tmobile micro sim to activate the phone.

I believe the old unlocked imei# with swap with the new imei#, and should be unlocked, done autumatically on apple end.

I unlocked my iPhone 5 by ordering the unlock from Unlock Fusion on eBay. The phone was still brand new and only activated at the Apple Store. Had not even been connected to iTunes once.

After I received the unlock confirmation, I plugged my phone to the computer and iTunes confirmed that the phone is unlocked. So, I figured I didn't need to restore iOS 6 and setup my phone from an existing back up while still waiting on my T-Mo SIM to arrive.

After I received & inserted the T-Mo SIM, the phone went through the whole activation process using Wi-Fi. All went well and got T-Mo signal and was able to make/receive calls.

I have another T-Mo SIM that I cut as a micro SIM to use on my 4S, which is still active. After using my phone with my AT&T SIM for a while, out of curiosity, I cut it down to a Nano SIM and tried it on my iPhone 5 and went through the whole activation process over WiFi again. All good again after activation.

Bear in mind, all this prior to restoring iOS. On this same thread, a few pages back someone had mentioned that you will go through the activation process if iOS was not restored after unlock. This is what I experienced with 2 different SIM's.

So, I restored my phone with iOS 6 and restored my last backup. Now I tried both T-Mo SIM's again and didn't need activation at all. T-Mo signal showed up right away and was able to make/receive calls.

Not documented anywhere, just my experience after unlocking my iPhone 5 as I mentioned above.

Okay, you DFU upgraded your phone, in which case you restored iOS. I am talking about phones that have been unlocked and unlock functionality prior to restoring iOS.
