Yes, all verizon iphone 5's are unlocked. Under contract, full price all verizon iphone 5 phones.
All you have to do is activate it, then transfer your number from the i5 back to your old phone and tell the buyer just to restore it and put his sim inside.
That's it.

Yes, I tried with mine, but they're saying the IMEI dosen't exist!

Have now written to their complaints dept to get it sorted.

Did they say that to you on the phone or via email/txt? I just rang them asked them for a subsidy PIN and the lady asked for IMEI, said she would take it from the call credit, put me on hold and said she had put it through and within 28 days it should be unlocked. Someone I know who I thought was on O2 actually was on T-Mobile so gave me authority to speak to them and just did it on the phone, he has been with them for years otherwise for PAYG they want at least 3 months of being with them or 1 month on pay monthly.

Hoping mine goes through but can't say I am exactly confident with their procedures. A joke really and never would of bought T-Mobile if I knew they were so awkward, my own fault I guess. On the other hand O2 and Vodafone do it with little to no fuss at all yet T-Mobile and even Orange I hear insist on just making things difficult. They have made their money on the iPhone why continue to make things hard? People happily will pay the money to get it done and if they make it easier more likely they'll keep their contracts there.

does the phone come with a nano sim in it? and if it does, do i take it out or leave it. can the other person use it?

You take out the verizon nano sim. The other person will have to get his own nanosim with his phone number on it.

thanks again. not sure why this guy on AT&T wants my verizon phone but I'm not going to argue. just sell it to him.

That's a good amount you're getting there:)
Is that a 16GB?

yeah, black/slate 16gb. hope it all goes well. i dont think he knows what he is doing. i am doing all the research for this guy. i just dont want him bringing it back to me the next day and saying he cant get it to work.

did you need a "foreign" simcard?

I know someone already responded to this, but no, I didn't need a foreign sim card.

I didn't even need to restore to see the unlock message in iTunes. I tapped "Erase All Content and Settings," it did its thing, and when I plugged my iPhone 5 into my mac that was the first screen on iTunes.

I guess the carriers have realized it doesn't really matter, they still get their money. We still have to sign 2 year contracts and are subject to early termination fees regardless of the phone's lock status.
I got my 4S unlocked last week and my 5 done today (hopefully, I have to get home and restore in iTunes first). I used Unlock Fusion via eBay.

There are a number of foreign markets where phones have never been locked. I'm in Singapore and that's the case. You get a subsidy from the telco in exchange for a two year contract. The subsidy is not as big as in the US, but we have absolute freedom to do whatever we want with the phone after we get it.

well the guy is backing out saying that ATT told him that apple could lock the phones anytime they want and he would be screwed. not sure that is true.

This site seems to confirm unlock status:

I dont ever sell phones as unlocked or unlockable. I know that doesn't get you top dollar but its just a hassle. I sold my 64GB 4s for $500. If the buyer wants to use it on another carrier that's there problem as I have made no claims that they can.

I did have ATT unlock it and confirmed it using the site above...but I did not tell the buyer.

Can apple just at anytime go and lock their phones? if verizon wants their phones unlocked would apple or verizon go and change it later? seems like that would be real bad CS.

It's ok. You can still sell it to someone else easy.

For mine unlocked from unlock_fusion for a little over 4 dollars today! So can I use my AT&T iPhone on Verizon now?

No, never.
It's only unlocked for gsm networks.
Not CDMA as verizon and sprint.

Just curious

Hey guys sorry for my lack for knowledge. I have never owned any cdma iphone. So just for my curiosity, I would like to know the following:

1)So verizon and sprint are cdma right?
2)CDMA Iphone's dont have sim card in it, so how does verizon iphone 5 have a nano sim ? I am confused.

Thanks for helping me solve this mystery haha:confused:

I am no expert but I would say that once done it will not be undone. You have to look up an IMEI just to know and I doubt any of the carriers are too concerned.

For $6 its worth the risk.

I believe the verizon phone, if unlocked, can use an ATT sim.

That's not even close to what he asked.

1 yes.
2. The CDMA iPhone 4S and i5 do use sims.
It's for use outside the US and to access Verizon's LTE network.

thanks. So if i unlock a cdma iphone 4S or iphone 5, I can use it with ATT. I know the ooposite is not true as ATT unlocked iphones cannot be used on cdma networks like you said.

An i5 from verizon comes already unlocked and can be used on any gsm network including AT&T but it won't be able to connect to AT&T LTE, just 3G and hspa+.
The unlocked verizon 4S can only be used with any gsm sim outside the US. It won't work with AT&T or any other us carrier.
I know, it gets confusing:)
