Anyone notice the TMobile ad at the botttom states:

UMTS mit HSDPA unlimited

equals 3G, could be a typo!:)

....because they don't have EDGE in the UK so their internet will either be archaic or 3G. No 3G here isn't THAT much of a big deal, because many of us haven't had a 3G phone. No 3G in England will be like asking them to go from a T1 line back to dial up.

Actually, both Orange and (according to posts on here) O2 have operational EDGE networks in the UK.

Also, as a UK user with a 3G phone I can tell you that, frankly, it sucks: it eats batteries, the web browser on the 'phone (Nokia 6630, OK its an oldish model now) sucks and it's a trial entering text on the 'phone keypad even with T9 enabled. I'd gladly swap from my 3G Nokia to an EDGE iPhone just for the overall usability improvements.

yeah, if anything is announced, i dont think it will be until AFTER macworld '08. announcing then would be bad because everyone who got their shiny new iphones for christmas would want to take them back or would complain until jobs gave them their $200 back.

as for me, barring an unforeseen tradgedy involving my iphone falling into the toilet or being chucked out a window, i won't be upgrading until around summer '09 (UNLESS they get 3g here where i go to college...might consider it then.....MAYBE)

Exactly, the new iPods were released in September "in time for the holidays.".

Not neccessarily- in the US, the largest retail day fo the year is "Black Friday," the day after thanksgiving. That is when a good majority of christmas shopping is done. So- if they are going to update the iphone for the european market with 3g, then why not have it here too and have one product being produced worldwide? If that is released nov 12th, exactly two weeks later is Black Friday, meaning the initial launch early adopter people would have bought theirs, giving the average consumer a godo chance to buy it on Black Friday. Honestly, it makes sense. I just don't buy this "They'll never update it they can't the battery is too small I am a mac professional and i call BS" stuff. Face it- technology progresses, and the only limitations of the phone from most people are a lack of 3g and a lack fo corporate email. If that were addresses, well, the barriers to buying the phone would fall for even more people. Just my 2 cents, but I will be waiting until nov 12th to see if this rumor was complete BS. That price drop was pretty random as far as I was concerned, and that could ver well be because they need to clear out old inventory. I mean, they just sold their 1 millionth iphone! That's ridiculous!

Actually, they would not have grounds to complain- if the new phone is refreshed, with new features to justify a refreshed product, there would be no grounds for complaining- the current price drop was on an existing model with no additional features or product changes.

20GB doesn't sounds like a real number for solid state. It would be 16GB (8 x 2). At work, I recently got a 16GB thumb drive (and the company makes a 32GB version) ... so, its very possible for them to have 16GB rather small.

However, I don't believe for a second on putting 3G in *AND* making it smaller. With the current chips that handle 3G it isn't going to happen.

A was probably stated above ( I didnt bother to read every page of comments) the stupidest assumption in this blatant pipe dream of a rumor is that AT&T employees would have any insight whatsoever into the development of Apple products, which they absolutely do not.

There are also plenty of other problems (flash memory in 4 gig increments [hd-based? lol!), etc, but meh.

Probabilty = 0%

What he said....

Obviously the worst fake since the iPhone nanos fakes that this board promotes, but I didnt see this mentioned yet,

"Visuelle mailbox"? what does that have to do with e-mail? I thought e-mail was always visual? That is defininatly not german for visual voicemail either.

These rumors are being started by people who are pissed off that their long term contract with a non-AT&T carrier is keeping them from buying the iPhone right now and they either A.) don't want anyone else buying this phone until they can get one or B.) Are living in a fantasy world where a new iPhone will be announced just in time for their current contract to expire.

:apple::apple::apple::apple::apple:Attention Haters::apple::apple::apple::apple::apple:

You won't see a new iPhone until the summer of 2009 at the earliest. Deal with it. Your only hope is for Apple to release some iPhone Nano type product, and even then, that won't have even half the features that the current model has.
So if you want an iPhone....you might as well just buy one now, otherwise you're gonna have to deal with gadget envy for a LONG time. So stop crying and cancel your contract already...you know you want to.

Very funny lol. I can't tell if that's sarcasm but the iPhone will DEFINITELY be updated before then. To tell you the truth I wouldn't even be surprised if it were actually slightly revised with bigger memory, perhaps a 16 GB model, at christmas.

Based on this on the Apple home page:

"8GB iPhone priced at $399 for this holiday season" - Hot News

They sound like they are on auto pilot for the holidays. Although I don't put it past them at all to do a 16GB for $499.

I wouldn't think much more from a hardware stand point could change before the end of the year.

ehh

nuff with the speculation, but we already know they gonna have a 3g version but it would be my guess that it will only be available in the overseas market.

And they would have two different products produced why?

Why is it so hard to comprehend the idea that this price drop was to move the current phones out so they could bring in a 3g in a few months? It they are going to do it for overseas, why the heck would they not have it here as well?

I'm pretty confident they'll release an iPhone for Europe with 3G but with only the Euro 3G bands and not the single 3G band that is used by AT&T in the US thus making it only useful in Europe. A 3G US version will probably be announced at MacWorld 08 and go on sale in the summer...similar to this year.

Isn't it the same chip, just a different software setting for the individual radio frequency? I thought they could make one products, and enable the bands so it would work as a world phone?

Anyone want to speculate on what tomorrow's European launch event will bring?

No need to speculate, it will be EDGE only for today's launch. O2 have been clearly testing their EDGE implementation recently. It will not be 3G, nor will there be a 3G phone in December 1 month after an EDGE launch in Europe which has a more mature 3G network. This would be corporate suicide by Apple to p*ss off Europe so soon if we're to get the iPhone in our hands in November.

3G will not appear until 2008 and it will be rolled out across the continents simulataneously.

I am hoping however on a 16Gb model ;)

Is there anyone other than me who really doesn't care to see an update? I labored for a long time before eventually picking up an iphone. I wasn't sure if it was for me, I wasn't sure I wanted to do this that or the other thing and here I am with the phone for less than 24 hours and loving it. I suffered with a v3xx with att for 2 days and while 3g equates to obviously an improved internet experience, the trade off in battery life just isn't worth it. I'll HAPPILY take edge speeds and great battery life over speed and horrible battery life!

I suppose at this time having bought one yesterday I'm a "late" adopter in a manner of speaking and I don't want another one coming out 3, 4, 5 months from now thats so significantly improved I have to have it. I'd rather see improvements with an already streamlined device, let them build their focus here, build sustained momentum and then come out with 3g, at a time when the trade off for internet speed isn't having to carry a charger in your back pocket.
