This sounds like a strange question. Because this is essentially opening a credit card-- will I see a physical credit card from this company?

No, you won't see a physical card from this company. And it is less like opening a credit card and more like an "installment loan" in terms of what is reported on your credit report.

I can confirm that only proper credit cards are accepted for Apple Upgrade. My Visa debit was declined even though many other merchants bill it as a regular Visa credit card.

When they ask for your Att pin and number are they checking to see if you are eligible for an upgrade or if you have a valid account? This is for the upgrade program.

This is to confirm that one, you have an account and two, to activate the phone.

Have a couple of questions...

Is there any kind of paperwork that I can get for my records for this iPhone Upgrade Program from Citizens Bank? Also, what website do I go to to make payments for the plan? Things weren't explained very well to me at the apple store I was at. I am just trying to get a general idea

Your payments will be billed to whatever credit card you had Apple swipe at the time of purchase. There is no payment to Apple or Citizens Bank that you need to worry about paying on time. It's the credit card bill you'll need to make sure is paid.

So i have my 6s+ now that I pre-ordered through Apple on ATT NEXT 24.

I want to do the upgrade program with Apple instead but wanted the phone in hand first.

Is there a way to convert the phone into the Apple program so I can upgrade every year and cancel my NEXT?

Or can I pay off the phone and complete my Next plan and convert to the Apple upgrade program?

You have to return the phone to AT&T within 14 days, pay the restocking fee, wait for them to receive the phone so your eligibility resets, reserve a phone for a future date with Apple, then hope that you get approved for the program.

Or you can just switch to the next 20 month which lets you upgrade every year.

Yeeesh! F that lol

Anyone know if you can switch NEXT plans in mid agreement or do you have to pay off the phone and use it next time?

Has anyone been able to confirm whether this will work if you're a T-Mobile prepaid customer. I've gotten different answers from different Apple Store reps.

I was able to use my prepaid T-mobile account this morning to get a 6S Plus. FYI, the only problem that I ran into was that they ask for an account number (which after a chat with a T-mobile rep I found out is simply our phone number with a "1" in front) They also had to ask what my current plan entailed ($30 for 5GB LTE, 100 minutes and unlimited texts). I did chat with Apple this morning before I visited the store (attached).

I know we have confirmation that this program is a hard inquiry on Equifax, however it will be interesting to see how the new trade line shows on credit reports, whether as a revolving account or installment account.

Hey, I have the same plan and went to the apple store trying to get the upgrade program but they wouldn't let me do it... :( I ended up buying the phone outright at full price. I'm wondering if I should go back later and try to get them to let me do this or not.... Was there anything else to your transaction?

Upgrade program was a breeze! Reservation line took about 20 minutes to get in store and upgrade process took just over 20 minutes. It would actually been faster but the specialist had just started his shift and I was his first customer so he hadn't signed anyone up to the program and he was a little slow. I truly have no idea what my fico score since I haven't applied for credit in over a decade but I was surprised at how quickly I was approved. They activated the SG 6s+ without opening the box which was awesome but immediately rendered my 6+ deactivated so I had to rush home to set up and restore from iTunes on my laptop (which took like 5 minutes!) All in all a great experience and I'm glad I joined the program!

I'm sorry that it didn't work for you!

I'm not sure if any of these details help, but the specialist had to fill in a section about my existing plan on his EZ pay ($30, the first available option). All he did was say "$30" and left data blank. The iPhone activated fine and I had service within a minute. I've had the account for awhile (I came from an iPhone 6 Plus paid in full last year and an iPhone 5 before that). I did tell them I was coming from a prepaid account at the very beginning of the interaction and none of the specialists had a problem with it.

My credit wasn't good, but got 2 devices on AUp. They do try to charge the 3 months amount on your card so make sure your cc has room. Easy process.

I reserved two iPhone 6S Plus Rose Gold 64gb under TMobile, which I have AT&T and did not realize this till the worker told me. They told me I could not do the Apple Upgrade program because there is not AT&T sim in the phones and they have to be activated. Additionally, they said they are not allowed to just take out the sim from my current phone to the new phones. I had to purchase them for full price.

Thanks for the details! I might go there after work and try again; I didn't have much time to argue this morning because I was already late for work.

Also, I should add that I had to take the SIM card from my original 6 Plus and put it in the new phone. To clarify, the specialist was able to activate my phone using my existing account info, but I couldn't make calls until I swapped SIMs outside the store. My theory is that Apple can't activate new prepaid accounts for customers using the upgrade program, but existing T-mobile prepaid users (with SIMs in hand) are OK. Good luck!

I did ask if I could activate later, but with the iPhone Upgrade Program they have to activate it before you leave so if you don't unbox there, you don't have a working phone.

I didn't even break the seal on the plastic until I got home, but the phone activated anyway. There's no need to unbox at the store. I asked about swapping sims but they said there was no need to do that. We literally watched my current phone flip to "No Service" during the process as the new one activated. And I got to unwrap and unbox my phone at my leisure when I got home. :D

I just got home from the local Apple Store. Not a long wait at all I was an hour early for my appointment and get right in. Signed up for the Apple Upgrade Program and was approved without issue. I don't have the best credit either. Honestly I was a little surprised. I was just sped ting to leave paying full price. But was out in 20 minutes

You should receive an email with all the info on the Citizens Bank agreement. And you don't go anywhere to make payments - the payments will be charged each month to the credit card you handed them in the store.

Just got home. Mine got approved. It helped I follow this thread today and learned what to watch for. The very nice Apple store employee was going to run the credit check with another member of my family members names. Caught that and everything went very smooth.
