I just got back from the Apple store and was not pleased. The wait time was very short and was able to speak with a specialist within walking in the door and my iphone in hand. They refused to do a prepaid IUP saying they can only do Post paid accounts which i think is horrible and like the other member said misleading. No where does it say only for Post paid accounts and why does it have to be activated through the carrier if Apple is doing it? I had to pay for it upfront which I was not happy about and took my iphone and left the store within 20 mins. I even spoke with the "training specialist" who gave the training on different scenarios to other specialist and he said no, only post paid.

What I did notice is that the Apple specialist has to log into their Apple Connect portal to access the carrierʻs site/portal. Once they got into tmobile portal i gave them cell and account password which they said is your last 4 of your SSN. Since Prepaid dont have SSN i gave them my pin # and it pop up as being Prepaid and said no we cannot do Prepaid. It was frustrating and just paid and left. Hope you have better luck.

I didn't even break the seal on the plastic until I got home, but the phone activated anyway. There's no need to unbox at the store. I asked about swapping sims but they said there was no need to do that. We literally watched my current phone flip to "No Service" during the process as the new one activated. And I got to unwrap and unbox my phone at my leisure when I got home. :D

Yeah, same exact scenario for me. The issue is that you've got one unwrapped and activated and one just rocking "no signal". I always unbox at home so I took the risk of not having a ready to go phone when leaving.

(Obviously you could unbox, turn on, restore as new and use it if needed.)

Just got home. Mine got approved. It helped I follow this thread today and learned what to watch for. The very nice Apple store employee was going to run the credit check with another member of my family members names. Caught that and everything went very smooth.

I'm curious about how that happened... And I wonder if that's the reason why some people haven't seen hard credit checks on their report. I wonder if some family members are going to see the credit check on THEIR report? Oops!

Depends on which service you use. Citizens reports to Equifax, so the Citizens credit check for the AUP only shows up on Equifax, not on TransUnion on Experian. So if you look at a TransUnion credit report, or use Experian's credit monitoring, you won't see it. CreditKarma does show Equifax, so anyone using CreditKarma will see the pull.

Unless, of course, the credit check was done on someone ELSE, as the post I quoted said had happened... If that happens, you won't see a credit check on your file, whether it's Equifax, Transunion, Experian, or CreditKarma.

Your family member, however... Could see credit checks for something they didn't expect...

I am just an authorized user on the family plan and not the main account holder. So different first name. Whatever system Apple is using just auto populated the main account holders info on the credit check form.

That makes sense. Although you might expect the Apple Employee to verify the name on the form matches the name (and address) on your id... Was that a first day glitch?

I'm also curious about how much smoother (or not) the Upgrade plan is working now, after they've had some time to work out the kinks. You know... Just in case this program makes it's way up north.

I have a terrible memory and can't remember at what exact point they looked at it but they did. I think they looked at to confirm I was a authorized user on the ATT account. So they checked my DL/entered my DL info and had me enter my social security number on the back of their point of sale device. I can't find the post on here from the user who said that also happend to him/her but they were initially denied and then they doubled checked the name and it was wrong. Once the correct name was put in they were approved.

So the info was correct on the ATT side but the name that was automatically entered on the credit check side would not have matched the social security number.

I think it's running smoother now. I know Citizens was having computer issues earlier that day. I think one thing Apple/the bank can do next year is offer pre-approval you can do at home and don't have to do the process on a small iPhone screen where typing errors can occur.

Interesting....I would think they would be running the credit of the person who showed up with the credit card, since the loan would be in their name. Shouldn't make a difference if the carrier service is in someone else's name. They're not the ones responsible for making the payments on the new hardware. Not sure how that could easily happen, but apparently it has, several times. There should be fail-safes built into the POS system they use to prevent that from happening.

My local store had a 64GB rose gold Plus (according to Apple's reservation website this morning) and I couldn't resist reserving one for myself. Was going to just pay for it outright, but I was like "eh, the upgrade program seems pretty nice" so I went for it. Used my AMEX and had no issues whatsoever.

In and out of the store within 15 minutes, and currently obsessed with 6S Plus.

There are conflicting reports. One chat with an Apple store rep said yes you can be a prepaid or MVNO customer, while the bare terms seem to say no.

Hi there, I'm a GoPhone customer as well and was unable to purchase the new 6s through Apple's Upgrade Program. It's possible that the customer service rep didn't know what she was doing, but apparently she couldn't port my number properly because it's a prepaid account and AT&T doesn't give you an actual account number unless you go and ask for it.

I went to an AT&T store and they gave me a my account number, so I'm going to set up another reservation at Apple and see if it works this time. But if anyone else has some definitive answers that would really save a lot of us the hassle of waiting around at an Apple store. Thanks!

I also tried to do the same as my wife is using go phone while I am using prepaid. I asked the Apple rep that can we use the prepaid number she said nope. Then I used my account information to get it.

I'm confused, GoPhone is prepaid. So once you got your account information from AT&T you were able to buy the phone?
