Spoke to a member of staff at an Apple Store on Saturday and he said that you need a proof of address. If you cam't get one, they will also accept a ban statement provided it has been stated and signed by someone at the bank.

Hmm... the confirmation email says this is what we'll need to bring:

A valid photo ID.
Make sure you bring along your UK driving licence, or passport.
Your personal information and bank details.
You will be asked to provide your date of birth, employment details and UK home address/es from the last three years for a credit check. You will also need your bank account and sort code to set up a direct debit.
Your current mobile phone.
If you’re upgrading from another iPhone, remember to back up the data to your computer or iCloud. You’ll also want to take note of your Apple ID. If you’re upgrading to your first iPhone, one of our Specialists can help you transfer all your data with the Move to iOS app.

I'm not sure if that is generic messaging? Looks specific enough to me. I can also tell you that last year I bought a Macbook Pro on Barclays Financing and didn't need to bring any proof of address (then again, my ID showed my home address - can't remember if that was checked).

I think they just need the details to run a credit check and set up the direct debit.

Hi, I made a reservation today for a 128gb Gold 7+ from Covent Garden on 16/9 for the upgrade programme. When I attend the store would I be able to amend the colour? Also, would I be able to do iphone payments rather than the upgrade programme? Thanks.

(Not doubting you) but wow how did you manage that? When I've checked all the Plus models are sold out!

Yes i was checking regularly early this morning and there were actually quite a few stores with 7+, albeit only certain colour (rose and gold) and gb combos. Lucky!

Oh did not know they were updating the reservation system every day! Will keep checking, thanks!

I was told by Apple advisor that I could amend to the iphone payments option in store as it was not possible to reserve the phone under this option online. Not sure about you changing the colour. I suppose it might depend if they have others in stock. I reserved a 7 32GB in black and am now wondering whether I should have gone for the 7+!

Not sure if this has already been covered in this thread, but does anyone know if there will be walk-in stock in UK stores (specifically London) on Friday? I haven't yet managed to reserve the model I want (128gb Plus Matte Black)...

See with the iPhone low payments do you get any sort of insurance ? It says Apple care+ or upgrade not included , does that mean you just have normal Apple care ?

no, no apple care and no upgrade. I'd say its more for the people that upgrade on a 2 yearly cycle and not every year.

I thought you would at least get some sort of apple warranty even for a year . That's kinda poor if not

Yea you only get the standard 1 year manufacturing warranty. I was looking into the same thing until I realised there was no upgrade option

As said above, you get all the standard Apple warranty cover just no additional insurance. AppleCare as it was ceased to exist a while ago and was rebranded AppleCare+. A bit of an odd name since it implies there's a standard AppleCare, but no biggie.

The thing to remember though, living in the U.K., is that currently we are still in the EU and as such have stronger consumer rights than they do in the States (and much stronger than Apple would like I guess), in that we are covered for six years (England and Wales, five years for Scotland) for manufacturing issues and defects although the burden of proof falls on us after the first year (I think) to successfully argue the device wasn't up to standard. Either way, for anything other than accidental damage we should usually be able to make a good case using our consumer rights for at least the two year cycle most people tend to keep an iPhone

The iphone payments is over 20 months, but I am pretty sure you could pay off the outstanding balance at any time, so at month 12 you could pay off the remaining 8 months, sell your phone and then get a new one. Effectively the Upgrade Programme but without the AppleCare.

true but a lot more hassle. I've done the same thing since the 4S, selling and upgrading however the upgrade program just looks so appealing as its much less hassle.

How's the experience with the upgrade programme been for people? Been reading longer waits due to system crashes. Has anyone been asked about physical proof of address? My contact at the Apple store said just ID is required but to bring proof of address to be on the safe side.

Hoping the system sorts itself out before I get there tonight!

I'm also wondering this as i'll be heading to a store this evening!
