I looked into this the other day before I upgraded and it seemed an expensive way to own an iPhone IMO.

What is the average costing for you guys with tariffs? What does it work out as every month?

It actually works out the same price as buying the phone and apple care outright.

I'm going to be paying £38 and £20 to Three for a sim only deal.

In the past, I've always bought the phone outright and then sold it after a year. This way, I'm not paying upfront for the phone and don't have the hassle of selling it a year later. Plus AppleCare+ included (£119 seperatley).

I'm sure there's probably cheaper ways of buying it but works for me.

Did anyone manage to reserve a 128/256GB 7+ in jet black/matte?

Only ones i saw were Rose/Gold
I'm not sure about this but I don't think there were any to reserve of the black colours higher than 32GB in the UK. And definitely not Jet Black. Bad launch this year. Worst for a long time I think.

That's what i thought, I didn't even see silver in those configs. First time i wasn't able to get an iPhone for launch day

There was plenty of Gold and Rose gold, and some silvers but no black or jet black pluses anywhere

hope they restock the black for pick up soon....using an iPhone 4 in the meantime and man it is slow!!!

I'm finding the "Customer Experience" that used to be such a big part of owning Apple products is nowhere as good as it was even a couple of years ago. Launch days are getting more and more confusing and short-stocked, getting appointments at the Genius Bar is just about impossible unless you know the special spell needed to magically create one, and there's a few other little niggles too. Using the products is generally still good but the store experiences (online or physical) aren't what they were. Too many new Apple product owners in the last few years with no increase in support staff has led to shortages there too.

I know a lot of the rabid fanboys don't like criticism of Apple, but for a company with the profits they're making I'm sure a little more could be put back into the Customer Services side of the business to bring it back to where it was.

Gibberish.

Your calculations ignore the fact that if you buy/sell you have an asset worth £799 in 2020, whereas on the upgrade programme you don't own anything.

£799? Where are you getting that figure from?

And your calculations are ignoring the fact that, were you to sell the "asset on your hands", you'd then have to replace it. Likely with a new, more expensive iPhone.

As I keep saying - maybe this time you'll pay it some heed - buying outright is only significantly better value long-term if you decide to stop owning an iPhone.

You are an idiot. I'm not going to continue this.

It sounds to me like it comes down to whether you value / require AppleCare or not.

Buying outright and selling each year, without AppleCare, would always be financially beneficial...

I've never gone for AppleCare before, I've dropped my iPhone several times and luckily never damaged it. That said, the new AppleCare prices do mean it makes more sense imo than at any other point in the past.

It is definitely a shame they don't do the upgrade programme without AppleCare (I know about iPhone Payments).

I think, when push comes to shove, at my reservation on Friday I'll probably take the upgrade scheme. Much easier, and will be nice to not treat my phone like my child. I got stung a few months ago when I dropped and smashed an Apple Watch, and that was not fun.

Right so what do I need to take with me on Friday to sign up to the upgrade program?

The apple store app just says photo id and bank information. I don't need proof of address/utility bills??

Can you trade in current iPhone for a lower monthly payment on Apple upgrade ?
I was told no by Apple advisor over the phone. I also asked about the same question about the iPhone payments and again was told no. Have reserved new iPhone 7 for collection on Friday and intend taking my 6 with me to the store to see if they trade it in with a view to reducing monthly payments under the iPhone Payments scheme.

I not sure this will yield anything, having looked at the US threads it seems the best you can do is pay off the remaining loan.

Having said that I think its Barclays you would need to speak with once you are on the plan. Give them a call when the time comes and say you would like to pay off some of the loan

Considering the hassles at pre-order this year I honestly think that the iUP is only going to be suitable if you don't plan on upgrading on launch days. Maybe a month or so later. There seems to be too much confusion on what happens if (more likely when) you can't pre-order the phone you want and potentially have to go a month or even two past the "upgrade point" of the 11th monthly payment. I'd like to think that there's a way of fixing that or at worst being able to pay off early the following year to get one on launch day. But with the way credit deals work here in the UK I can't help thinking that in no way will the operation of this by Barclays benefit the customer at all.

The Americans were in the same boat and have already kicked up a fuss. Apple have now changed the 'check back on the 17th' to something along the lines of 'if you can't find the model you want call 1800....'

It shows that Apple is at least doing something for those on the IUP. Hopefully when we get to the end of year one in the UK they would have learnt from their past mistakes and we have a smoother process ironed out.

Charming.

Seriously, though, are people genuinely not understanding the benefit of a £45 upgrade vs. a £300 upgrade? (Latter refers to loss on selling old iPhone and buying new one on a 7 Plus 128GB.)

Spoke to a member of staff at an Apple Store on Saturday and he said that you need a proof of address. If you cam't get one, they will also accept a ban statement provided it has been stated and signed by someone at the bank.

Just noticed 3 uk are doing a similar thing where you can buy an iPhone through Barclays finance
