I want to announce that I am going to switch over to android very soon. I am interested in the HTC one S.

I am tired of this old, boring wall of applications that suppose to represent an OS. I have been using iOS for I think its 4 years now and its basically the same back then as it is now. They basically ripped off some features from android and put it in ios. Well it definitely improved the OS but its still boring and stale.

But the biggest beef is the hardware. I have the iphone 4 and that was a significant upgrade back then. But the iphone 4s is just a blasphemy. Its a marginal upgrade to the iphone 4. Its essentially the same phone! I have been browsing this subforum and the news subforum. Well everyone is screaming for a 4.5+" screen including me. Hey can they be so stubborn.

I am sorry but the OS is severely lacking aswel as the hardware. I used my buddy's galaxy nexus. I see him using it every time. I am jealous and he has me converted.

I am just angry at apple. It's pushing me towards android while I am an ios user since the 2nd generation iphone with this innovation (read: no innovation)

Agree with you completely. Just made the switch from 4S to the Sprint Galaxy S2. Huge upgrade.

How interesting, I was also going to go to Galaxy S2 until I saw the HTC sense UI. Aesthetically it was more pleasing that Samsung Touchwiz.

Have been thinking about the HTC One S, its unibody ceramic back is appealing and the fact that it has ICS prepackaged with Sense 4 is amazing. the release date can't come soon enough!!

Since you mentioned it, I will say that Sense was my favorite UI for Android, and I think I tried all the major ones, vanilla/stock, touchwiz (bleh), MIUI, etc. Sense was definitely the sharpest. Not as smooth as ios, but the best I saw on Android.

Reviews of Sense 4 so far has it running with no lag what so ever how ever occasionally apps crash on 5.0.1 for me and the spotlight feature constantly lags. Stock ICS is nice, I've heard from friends, launchers can be downloader to experience other overlays, I am certainly going to look in to that.

TouchWiz is decent I suppose, I was very very close to landing a GS2 had it not been for the HTC news. Icons on TouchWiz are just plain weird since I am coming from iOS with rounded square icons.

Sense > Stock > TouchWiz is how I look at it so far

I know of several android owning friends who dropped iphone, went to android and are coming back.

Good luck.

This is what I did. Went from iPhone to Android and back to iPhone. I see me staying with the iPhone for the foreseeable future.

I also know of several other people that did the same thing.

Welcome, I got my galaxy nexus about three months ago and I already have had three os updates. Started on 4.0.1 and I'm on 4.0.4 now. I would go with a nexus phone if your switching.

I too am returning to Android. Have a 4S, currently looking to go Galaxy Nexus. I'm a diehard Apple fan with their macs and the iPad, but with the smartphone, there is a world to discover outside the garden.

I would consider the switch to Android, have I not bought many apps for iOS. I also appreciate the design of the OS being so similar between applications.

And I prefer a 3 inch-ish phone. If iPhone 5 turns out to be a 4/5 inch monster with no "Wow!" features, it's off to Android for me.

I wouldn't. Although the looming update is supposed to fix the reception issues, those who have rooted the phone claim the leaked update doesn't do the trick. And ICS really isn't all that, IMO.

Well if by bad reception you mean vastly better than AT&T then you are correct my friend. I get way better reception and about 10x download speed in my worst reception area. The new radios are working great for me! Much better than the iPhone.

Comparing Rezound and Nexus on Verizon. Rezound is faster and has better voice reception than Nexus. That's a device issue.

I can't compare download speed to att since my area does not yet have lte yet and won't until at least June. So yes, Verizon smokes att on that right now. But in my area att voice reception is superior to Verizon. Those are service issues. And until iPhone has a 4G LTE phone we can't compare speeds with android yet.

In my opirion the best android on Verizon right now is Rezound.

Get the HTC One X. It has a much sharper screen.

In part I agree with the OP. I think the iPhone looks dated with respect to hardware. Even a 4" retina display would be a huge step forward.

Have you seen the renderings for a 4.5" iPhone screen. Now THAT'S what I want.

This.

With a phone that works and works well I don't understand where all of the complaints come from. Sure I would like to see it look a bit different after a few years or so. The bottom line is quality.

The ONLY thing I would like to do different with my iP4 is be able to place the apps where I want on the screen.

I have had 3 smart phones before my iPhone4 and I am constantly blown away at how well it works, how little issues I have with it. It is an excellent product. Especially NOT calling 911 for me when I (and no one else) is near the phone....Thanks HTC...

I know people have different needs etc but getting mad at a company for not meeting "your" needs when the product is an excellent product is just a waste of energy. Find one that meets YOURS but be mindful, we don't really care what you do.

No one is going to change your mind and beg you to stay. Have fun with the variety. It is just after having 3 crappy smart phones (no I didn't go Android, so I can't speak for it) I am sticking with what is reliable, fun and works.

Nowadays every OS is reliable. W7, android, ios and the latest versions of symbian are all viable.

What sets them apart is hardware and apps. When it comes to essential apps they all have it. Iphone just have more exclusive games but I already have an ipod touch too.

I was thinking of it but I like the premium feel of aluminum. The one S seems te be a more balanced phone too. Better processor, battery life, premium feel, cheaper, thinner.

I don't know man. Screen quality is incredibly important. I think the One X is the closest thing on the market to a retina display.

I am going to Android for the first time, I've seen plenty of it from youtube videos to friends using HTC Evos and Sensations dailly. However I disagree, iPhone4S is decent when compared to cellphones, good build quality and screen is splendid. Android just has more specs and more freedom just makes it so much more attractive than iOS.

Macs are a different story, incredibly hard to navigate, I couldn't even delete a file on a friend's iMac???

Windows 7 improved on Windows XP so much, I can see Apple having steady success with iPhones because its a main brand but expect Macs to decline with Windows 7 being a much better OS and Windows 8 attracting much more people.

it IS a retina display

Retina Display is just an Apple marketing term. (And a good one to boot.) So nothing else is technically a 'retina display' other than the iPhone 4/4S screen & latest iPad screen.

I'm excited to see the HTC One X screen in person, and am fully aware of its 312 ppi. I'm just going to hold off saying anything specific about it till I see it for myself.

The eternal battle of Android vs iOS, Google vs Apple, Don't be Evil vs Think Different.

So first let's talk hardware. Traditionally hardware was always behind on Apple iPhones. Apple just doesn't think of hardware the same way as other manufacturers out there. Apple sees features, other see specs. I'm actually of the belief that features trump specs all the time. The longevity of iPhone hardware is 1 year. Then the next iPhone gets released. Android devices have their specs bumped about once every month this year. Apple does put a different type of technology in the iPhones which is centered around design, usability, and meeting the needs of it's OS and users. For this reason, the cameras used on the iPhone are superior to most of the other cameras on other mobile phones, the materials used for the case are all premium materials that give the phone heft as well as a quality feel, iOS is heavily tied to the hardware so that the experience of using hardware tied to the OS is seamless. A lot of people talk about the screen and having a Retina display. 2012 is the year where a lot of manufacturers will have "retina" screens. Basically 300ppi is the requirement for phones.

Why Android phone? It's all about choice. iOS is limiting the ways you can function because it appeals to the lowest common denominator: your parents/grandparents/non tech people. This means any moron in the world can use an iOS device. Android? Not really. You have to have working neurons to use an Android device. It requires you to think. You have to be able to understand widgets, microSD cards, hardware buttons, and how Android works in order to use it. In the right hands, Android is ridiculously powerful however the upkeep is that the person using an Android phone has to constantly check to make sure the hardware is meshing with the OS and the OS is running apps properly. Android also requires the user to close his/her own apps otherwise the RAM will pretty much freeze the device. iOS on the other hand spoon feeds it's users and doesn't allow for heavy customizations, no control over the system besides the basics, and locks off system parts of the phone so you can't tamper with it.

I'm personally a switcher from Android to iOS for my main platform but I also own a bunch of Android devices to test and to tinker with the settings. My biggest problems were always a lack of battery life, unstable ROM flashes, time consuming widget setups, lack of real Exchange server integration (I love and hate Touchdown), and a constantly decaying app collection which never completely worked on any Android device. iOS is basic but it works. I don't have hardware problems with iOS and the apps just work. It's like flipping a light switch instead of using a generator to power the lightbulb. I wish the OP good luck in switching to Android but there's about an 80% chance he/she will be back to iOS in no time.

This is something that's been going on for decades online... and in real life too :)

When people feel a connection to a group, possibly because of a long time being around them, they feel like they can talk to that group.

It happens everywhere that there's a community, whether it be a Land Rover group with members buying Jeeps, or a New York City forum with members moving to Florida, or a Sprint forum with people going to Verizon, or yes... you guessed it... iPhone groups with people buying Androids.

This is the most sensible post in this thread. Thank you. :)

LOL. I find this post most humorous, because I happen to have a MBP on Snow Leopard, an iMac on Lion and an HP running Windows 8 Metro beta.

Deleting a file on a Mac is no different than Windows 7. Click and drag to the trash or right click and send to trash. You found that difficult? Just wait till you try Windows 8 for the first time! Holy crap you are gonna have a tough time.

TouchWiz 4 is amazing. No lag at all. The Exynos processor is very smooth and responsive and the screen looks great, colors pop.

yep, Touchwiz is as good as iOS in terms of reliability, smoothness and responsiveness, assuming you have a higher end piece of hardware like the S2, Note or Nexus.

Couldn't have said it better myself. I also had both platforms up until yesterday when I sold my Galaxy S2. I was willing to take a smaller screen because it was a better quality one, a smaller battery because it actually lasted all day and a more "controlled" OS because it was far more polished and stable.

I phone is a very nice device with its + and - just like the android . But I blieve that Android and rebranded Android OS devices are the future of mobile computing and other devices. The reason is for being open-source and choice. Nothing can beat that. Just think about it Google pushing out Android OS and other rebranding the OS to their liking. Thats a win-win situation. Eventually Apple will be like they've having always been is a nitche market type of copmany. Thanks
