This makes me purple with rage.

Apple is the one company that doesn't need to do this. We pay more for an elevated experience: Our Macs don't come with trial software or branding stickers, our iPhones don't come pre-loaded with carrier marketing apps, the email address we hand over to Apple isn't immediately sold to the highest bidder.

And yet, they just can't help themselves due to unspeakable greed. So here, Apple, let me make it easy for you: I don't care about your latest movie. Or any of your TV shows. Nope, none of them. I don't want your free trial offers hanging around in the Settings app for months after I buy a device. I don't want to see the trash-level ads you've infested the Stocks app with. I already have more iCloud storage space; no I don't need more. I don't want Apple One or any of the services it includes. I don't want any more free trials for Apple Music (you've sent me six already) as I happily use one of your competitors. And while we're at it, I especially don't want your incredibly mid credit card.

Let me buy my devices and use them in peace. Because if you insist on marketing to me like everyone else does, then why exactly am I paying so much for your products?

Well, it's certainly getting people talking about Apple and the fact that there's a movie.
Maybe that was there intention. I got the pop up, thought about it for about 10 seconds then closed it. It’s $10 off two tickets in some app I probably don’t want. If I want to see the movie I’ll just go to the theater website and buy a ticket

I didn't even realize it was a promotion... I just cleared the notification. I do wish they don't do this again though. I have notifications disabled for everything except a select few apps... I don't want to have to disable notifications to Wallet.

I was like, “what is this? Oh just junk to ignore”. Just another day. If people complaining about this wanna swap me spots, I have been working 50+ hours a week for like 4 months now. One of the perks, is that there is no AC in this big metal building, just hot stuff air.

Apple today sent out an ad to some iPhone users in the form of a Wallet app push notification, and not everyone is happy about it.

An unknown number of iPhone users in the U.S. today received the push notification, which promotes a limited-time $10 discount that movie ticket company Fandango is offering on a pair of tickets to Apple's new film "F1: The Movie."

Some of the iPhone users who received the push notification have complained about it across the MacRumors Forums, Reddit, X, and other online discussion platforms.

"As far as I can tell, Apple is now just sending me ads to my screen now as push notifications, something I hate with an absolute passion and disable across the board in every app that tries this," said one person who received the notification.

Some people are especially upset about receiving a push notification ad through the Wallet app because it is a very important app for personal finances, so simply turning off notifications for the entire app is not a feasible solution.

Worse, Apple seems to be ignoring the guidelines that apply to App Store apps. The company says push notifications should not be used for promotions or direct marketing purposes unless users have explicitly opted in to receive them for said purposes.

The full text of Apple's guideline:Apple did not immediately respond to our request for comment.

Apple has been heavily promoting F1: The Movie, which debuts in theaters on June 25 in Europe and on June 27 in the U.S. and Canada. However, the company may have gone a step too far here based on online reaction from some iPhone users.

One silver lining is that the iOS 26 beta adds an "Offers & Promotions" toggle to the Wallet app, allowing users to opt in or out of receiving special offers and discounts available from Apple and its unspecified partners. However, Apple sent out to the push notification ad to iPhone users on iOS 18 too, and those users seemingly did not explicitly opt in to receive such an ad. For that reason, some people are disappointed in Apple.

whoever whines about this is petty and needs to take a deep breath.

More and more, Apple is becoming a Marketing First company. By this I mean the marketing department has way too much clout. We already saw this with the botched AI campaign where they advertised "buy the iphone 16 pro so you can get AI. this was done even though the AI features didn't exist yet.

No the marketing department is pulling crap like this they want to advertise in spaces they should not be. We all know Apple is greedy as Fxxx, but these sort of moves will really piss people off. I hope every one votes with thier dollars on future purchases. It will be the only way to get the message across to Apple.
Apple under Tim Spindler is a dying entity. He needs to be ousted ten years ago.

Here’s a good reason why the wallet should be allowed to be replaced by alternatives so we don’t get unsolicited adds
Remember the sheer outrage on here by (mostly American) users when it got announced that EU users would be able to replace Apple Pay with a 3rd party app? 😂

If I payed 1000€ then I expect no adds
Just a minor heads up, it’s spelt “paid”. “Payed” means to seal the deck of a wooden ship with pitch/tar to prevent leaks.

If you’re getting purple with rage over a little window in the Wallet app you should talk to someone about it. Not even joking mental health is a serious issue. I’ve had my problems and eventually got help. I’m so glad I did. Please talk to someone about this.

Way to sarcastically leverage false concern to troll about mental health. You know full well I was using the phrase "purple with rage" rhetorically.

Apple have jumped the shark.
And become just another pushy, greedy, intrusive “tech company” like all the others.

Slowly but surely Apple is trying out how far they can go with pushing apps into iOS for the sake of profit. I have yet to see one on my screen but the second I see first one, I am gone.
I take it you have never opened the Music or Settings apps on your iPhone?

I don’t think this is like a mortal sin or uncommon. People do it all the time. I might say iPhone is better than android. I probably should word that is in my opinion, iPhone is better than android. I wouldn’t take that too seriously

To complain about Apple. You don’t have to be pro Apple or even like Apple products to make an account. It gets people fired up, but sometimes that’s good for forum traffic.
