They kind of come over as desperate to finally have a successful movie. I'm skeptical if F1 will find that large of an audience - early reviews say, it's quite boring but long. But they for sure paid an arm and a leg for that lengthy F1 ad.

I got the notification. Was annoyed. I routinely block notifications from apps that abuse it. I would consider it abuse if it is a notification that is basically asking me unsolicited to spend time or money on something I otherwise wouldn't...
I only want to be notified about stuff that actually matters to me.

(Yeah, I don't have much tolerance for ads.)
Hopefully, the iOS 26 wallet setting makes this a non-issue.

Of all the things to complain about, my god. How about the 20 DoorDash 'Order you meal' alerts, or the million and one other garbage alerts/emails/etc we get a day. This is nothing. People just love to complain.
The first time that DoorDash did that to me, I disabled notifications for that app.
I have a whitelist system for allowed inbound emails. No tolerance there either.

Not sure why you have an account on this forum if you are anti-Apple.

Please point to where in MacRumors charter where it states that these forums are only for universally uplifting all that Apple does. If you can find it, I'll happily deactivate my account.

It's possible to enjoy a company's products or services, but not all of them. I've used Apple products for 30+ years, just like I've always bought Honda automobiles, and prefer certain brands of laundry detergent. I'll never, ever, be a "fan" of any of them.

However, Apple sent out to the push notification ad to iPhone users on iOS 18 too, and those users seemingly did not explicitly opt in to receive such an ad. For that reason, some people are disappointed in Apple.
Sigh…… 🤦‍♀️

Users really need to read the terms and conditions for using Apple Pay. By agreeing and just using the app, you give Apple consent to send promotional material using push notifications. And by using Apple Pay, you’re basically opting in under TOS.

Read the fine print carefully next time. 🤦‍♀️

Hilarious that several of you don't get sarcasm... ;)🤷‍♂️
Apparently I’m in that crowd 😂

It’s hard to tell tone sometimes in voice but I think harder in text.

As to the little pop up it’s slightly annoying but it only took a few seconds of my thought (not counting discussion here) then moved on. I’m more annoyed with the hot weather at my location 😂

Cant wait for the fanboy mental gymnastics that will spin this as the greatest thing since sliced bread.

I don't know if that's necessarily fair, as much as I may agree with you in spirit. Many people don't mind being marketed to, or being used as vehicles for corporate marketing. Consider everyone who walks around wearing Nike clothing with that incessant, obnoxious swoosh. Or pines for the return of the glowing Apple logo. Or wishes Apple still gave away logo stickers.

Or, more on topic, doesn't mind getting an offer for an Apple movie via push notification. That's fine. If people find utility in it, they're allowed. However, turnabout is fair play: I don't like being marketed at. It's one of the reasons why I pay more for Apple devices is to get a better, more refined, less intrusive experience. On some level, Apple breaking that unspoken promise is irritating and, at least to me, diminishes the appeal of the brand. No, one notification is not the end of the world just like a free U2 album wasn't a mortal sin. They are, however, cumulative, along with every other way marketing encroaches on what used to be different about the Apple experience.

Please do not express your opinions and say they are facts or are believed by everyone. Not sure why you have an account on this forum if you are anti-Apple.
Obviously this is my opinion. And it is perfectly fine to take with issues with Apple practices when they behave badly.

I have a lot of apple products, and am not anti-Apple. I am against their marketing department taking more and more things over lately, AND behaving very badly. This site isn't just for Apple fanboys that see no fault with Apple. It's ok for people to state things that they like, and don't like about the company.

MacRumors quoted it in their story, but here's the full paragraph from the App Store guidelines:
