Is people complaining about something the bar for an article? Some people complain about everything.

I want to complain that iPhones aren’t free and automatically delivered to my address on launch day. Anyone want to join in my complaint?
In fairness, this is a complaint because of something widely regarded as obnoxious (unsolicited marketing) and not just a complaint because of 'wanting something for free'.

Combined that it seems to be against Apple's OWN guidelines that everyone else has to follow.

So I think it is a fair complaint.

No, it's not a 'big' thing, but if you don't push back, the next thing will be bigger.

Apple doesn't enforce this. I get push notifications for promotions from major pizza companies and there is no way to opt-out in the app without opting-out of order-related notifications.

Which taps into the much broader problem of the App Store having unevenly applied rules. I'm sure if some solo developer dared to use push notifications to promote an in-app purchase or something, they'd face a perma-ban. Meanwhile, Apple, or Domino's, or Uber, or whatever large company, can send us marketing push messages as often as they like.

Disable Apple Wallet notifications. Maybe even stop using the app altogether. Frankly, one can live without Apple Wallet. Just use your debit/credit card directly, same for the bus pass, and leave your concert tickets on their original app. That's pretty much it. Apple doesn't care much for complaints, but might react if it sees its app's usage decrease.

I didn't get the notification but I'm pretty sure it's not a big deal. And yes I have wallet fully set up and notifications from wallet turned on.

I don't know if that's necessarily fair, as much as I may agree with you in spirit. Many people don't mind being marketed to, or being used as vehicles for corporate marketing. Consider everyone who walks around wearing Nike clothing with that incessant, obnoxious swoosh.
Do you think people like the swoosh or just ignore it. Sort of like the logo on the front and back of most cars. I think it’s like the grass under people’s feet. They know it’s there but usually don’t pay attention or care about it.

Or pines for the return of the glowing Apple logo. Or wishes Apple still gave away logo stickers.
Yes please. I think my case is due to nostalgia. I had a MacBook Pro with the glowing Apple.

Or, more on topic, doesn't mind getting an offer for an Apple movie via push notification. That's fine. If people find utility in it, they're allowed.
I think I would like offers that are relevant but it couldn’t be like spam emails where I got multiple per day.

However, turnabout is fair play: I don't like being marketed at. It's one of the reasons why I pay more for Apple devices is to get a better, more refined, less intrusive experience. On some level, Apple breaking that unspoken promise is irritating and, at least to me, diminishes the appeal of the brand. No, one notification is not the end of the world just like a free U2 album wasn't a mortal sin. They are, however, cumulative, along with every other way marketing encroaches on what used to be different about the Apple experience.
I think the simple answer is there should be a toggle to turn off whatever it is. I didn’t find a single pop up that happened one time in forever that big of a deal so I would leave it on. If it came every day with random irrelevant stuff I would turn it off.

Looks like Apple is promoting the film in any way possible. Maybe Apple will not do it for future films since many are complaining. Don't know whether it will be good but planning to watch it in IMAX soon.

Do you think it’s targeted at specific customers or just everyone. I understand the relevance of Apple Wallet to movies because it’s where your movie pass would be. Maybe only people who had movie passes in their wallet got the ad?

Indeed! Much like I didn't really find value in Apple's email marketing, and there are handy toggles to turn them off. If for some reason I want to start getting them again, it's easy enough to find it and toggle them back on.

There is no toggle to turn off all the other little ways Apple promotes other products or services (or movies) via pre-existing relationships with their customers. To me, that's a problem. To others, not so much. Which is fine, I just wish I had a way to turn it all off.

Hmmmm, this is a tricky one...is this a "promotion" for F1 (and thus explicitly against the App Store guidelines) or a notification of a deal available to Apple Pay users (and thus not explicitly against the guidelines)? I think both, but then does a non-infringing purpose negate an alternative, infringing purpose? 🤔

Some of you Apple sheep are next level. Some people will defend Apple no matter what. Ads everywhere? No problem as long as it’s Apple
Really, at this point Apple "sheep" are no worse than the chronic Apple whiners that complain when Tim Cook looks right when he should have looked left.

"How dare they offer me discount tickets!! That's it, I'm tossing my iPhone in the ocean and calling my lawyer! Oh, and btw, Apple is doomed! Again!! For real this time!!!"
