People can also not give a damn while others give too much of a damn. That’s a choice we all have and i could not care less about apple letting me know i could save $10 🤷‍♂️

It would be one thing if apple was ripping you out of your apps and showing full screen banners of brad Pitt shirtless in front of a sports car telling me to buy tickets. A small notification? I didn’t even notice it. It’s so unobtrusive that I can’t even get mad about it
And it somehow harms you that people don’t want their phone running ads at the OS level? You could have just scrolled past the story and gone on with your life, but instead you came here to complain that other people were complaining. You don’t see the irony in that?

People downplaying this are failing to realise it could snowball. One Notifications becomes 2, becomes 20, becomes regular ongoing spam. Other companies already do it, so it’s not an exaggeration either: there is precedent.

We need them to take a stronger stance on this and actually prohibit and act on other developers doing this. Not join the bandwagon! Good grief.

When Apple changed from making the best units they knew how to, to making the most expensive devices they could squeeze you money for, it was a question of time before they would go the Netflix route and agressively screw over customers.

Some who are narcissistically attached to this company will pooh-pooh and gaslight. But this is the kind of abuse that lets you ponder why you haven't bought the 200 dollar Chinese phone that does everything better and has all the superior bells and whistle Apple is gatekeeping.

I don't think I see the huge deal.

Those who came here to post:

(1) Likely won't effect change
(2) Spent more time writing about it than it would have taken to simply swipe and remove the notification

Had Apple sell their iPhone 30% lower their current asking price, I think people might be more willing to swallow the ad.

Wrong, the price of the iPhone has nothing to do with acceptance of the ads, this is a matter of principle. Unless of course Apple brings out $299 iPhone Ad Edition where every second interaction is closing a pop-up, perfect for some of the brainlets here. Apple is burning good will of users who matter, those who have power to make another platform popular once they are annoyed enough. Not to mention the optics of it all are absolutely pathetic, some marketing douche who needs to make his career: "Our slop isn't popular enough, we're desperate, quick spam everyone".

Translated. As a fanboy I can't think of a good counterpoint to this article, so I fully intend to shoot the messenger.
Translated. As someone who dislikes Apple (I’m pretty sure the mods don’t allow the H word) I can't think of a good counterpoint to this post, so I fully intend to shoot the messenger.

My counterpoint was it’s something silly to complain about. Of course that’s just my opinion. You say my post has no counterpoint, but your reply has no counterpoint to my post. That’s why I was able to use it to reply to your post.

Had Apple sell their iPhone 30% lower their current asking price, I think people might be more willing to swallow the ad. After all, google search is free of charge to use but google still is one of the most powerful companies in the world. But nope. Apple raises the product price by 30% AND shove people with ads. It’s like paying $14.99/mo for YouTube premium in order to watch even more ads.

The vast majority of people (in the US) pay their carrier via installment plans, or some lower-cost/free with trade-in deal. The final price of the phone isn't all the relevant, and 30%, or even 50%, would make no difference.

I’m not even against complaining about it. It just seems silly that there’s a whole article pointing out people are complaining. Maybe an article saying “Apple testing ads in the Wallet app for the first time” (is it the first time?).

I agree that it does seem very minor in the grand scheme of things. If the worst thing that stresses you out during your day is in the ad in the wallet app, you’re doing very well. I’m jealous of this person.

I'm so glad that people are calling out for the absolute penny pinching greed that Apple has been infested with cause of Tim Apple. Wait until you find out that the blatant rules violations for Apple Music, Apple TV and Apple One which infests ads in the settings app one after the other for months, not to mention Apple TV has bloody ads before we watch what we actually want to watch for other Apple TV *****, oh the mini trailer that plays before a show isn't an "ad" as the apple defence force call for just skip it bro.

Apple is rotten, I'm skipping a bite for years now with no new device.

Deleted Wallet from my iPhone. Sent feedback email to Apple concerning their foolish decision. Will cut up Apple Card in a few minutes. I absolutely will not have my bank, or any corporation, push ads to me via a financial tool or instrument. It simply will not be permitted.

Not minor at all. My financials are currently monitored by two companies, due to my credentials being violated at four other corporations. I am on the third replaced credit card in the last ten years. Pushing ads on a financial tool or instrument is unacceptable, I have deleted the Wallet app from my iPhone. Apple screwed up on this one; when Cupertino opens this morning, I hope the first thing the C-suite does is to terminate the clown that made the decision to push ads via the Wallet.

It would make a difference: longer instalment plans or more monthly repayment for the same length. I guess because most US folks buying their iPhone in instalment they don’t really care about the total price as much as folks in other parts of the world do.

For some folks it’s a matter of principle. But for some others it’s just a matter of “can I get brand new iPhone 16 Pro Max 512 GB at only $799 directly from Apple, even if that means I will see more ads while using it”. There is a reason why ad-supported tiers of various services still gain traction simply because they don’t have to shell out real money to enjoy the service.
Yes, for Apple who is already charging exorbitant prices on all of their hardware and accessories it is outrageous. But the silent majority will react to this differently than folks on MacRumors. I would not tolerate ads on my iPhone from a system app. Third party ones sometimes are ok. I just want the OS go out of my way while I do my stuff.
