Is people complaining about something the bar for an article? Some people complain about everything.

I want to complain that iPhones aren’t free and automatically delivered to my address on launch day. Anyone want to join in my complaint?
Translated. As a fanboy I can't think of a good counterpoint to this article, so I fully intend to shoot the messenger.

I hope every one votes with thier dollars on future purchases. It will be the only way to get the message across to Apple.
Unfortunately this is exactly the thing that will NOT HAPPEN. People will continue to buy iPhone and Apple will continue to be able to get away with this forever.
This company has no standards anymore.

This is totally gross and unacceptable and not what we want out of Apple products.
As if Apple really had any standards to… oh they did? But not now? Oh that’s double gross and unacceptable.
Maybe they should ban the Wallet App from the AppStore for violating their guidelines 🤔
Or ban all first party apps except settings app. They all violate THEIR OWN guidelines (this is for dramatic effect) one way or the other for unfair advantages and gross monopolistic behaviours.
The worst enemy of someone is always oneself. Apple truly is Apple’s own worst enemy that can’t be beaten.

Venmo and Paypal constantly pushing their credit cards/lines down your throat comes to mind. Yes, Apple promotes Apple Card but it’s nowhere near as obnoxious as the other two companies mentioned.
So time for more ads I guess. How about weekly promotion of Apple Card until you sign up for one?

Initially I thought it was for Apple Card holders then saw it on my work iPhone.

Do we think it would have been better if there was just an offer in Wallet app but no notification? I agree with some others this could have been an emailed offer.

Also noticed there’s a $5 T-Mobile Tuesday ticket deal.

I think it's just a reality of business. They are in the entertainment business now. I didn't get the ad, but could see it being an honest, hey, you own one of our devices, so we will give you $10 on something others will pay full price for. I know that isn't the general consensus, but I tend to assume positive intent.

Look, I’m not saying I love ads but anyone who’s worked in marketing knows you have to push your product like crazy with all the notifications people get throughout the day. People see an ad, like the product but are too busy/get distracted to act on the ad so it makes sense to serve another one.

By the way, there are two settings to turn off these notifications in Wallet:

Probably shouldn't have done it, but I get 100's of notifications a day that I hate. But to take the time to even complain to the App developer that it was annoying is better spent just clearing it. Its as if people just want attention for themselves.
I get zero notifications from Apps that I don't want. I want all of my notifications to be important to be noticed. If an app sends me notifications I don't want, I disable notifications or delete the app. Its just odd that Apple is using my Wallet app to send me ads. No big deal, I'll provide Apple feedback that I was disappointed - for whatever that will do, and disable Wallet notifications.

If this was a once off because some marketting exec got too excited that their childhood dreams of winning an oscar is getting closer, i'd say "just dismiss the notification and get on with your life"

The fact that they've introduced a toggle for it; specifically with wording "apple or its partners" tells me that they plan to do a lot more of this in the future.

And when they say partners, what they really mean is "anyone willing to pay us to advertise their stuff"

Worse, Apple seems to be ignoring the guidelines that apply to App Store apps. The company says push notifications should not be used for promotions or direct marketing purposes unless users have explicitly opted in to receive them for said purposes.

The full text of Apple's guideline: Push Notifications should not be used for promotions or direct marketing purposes unless customers have explicitly opted in to receive them via consent language displayed in your app's UI, and you provide a method in your app for a user to opt out from receiving such messages.

I'm so glad that people are calling out for the absolute penny pinching greed that Apple has been infested with cause of Tim Apple. Wait until you find out that the blatant rules violations for Apple Music, Apple TV and Apple One which infests ads in the settings app one after the other for months, not to mention Apple TV has bloody ads before we watch what we actually want to watch for other Apple TV *****, oh the mini trailer that plays before a show isn't an "ad" as the apple defence force call for just skip it bro.

Apple is rotten, I'm skipping a bite for years now with no new device.

This settings panel is directly in the Wallet app. Tap the ••• in the top right corner and then Settings.

I’m on iOS 26 beta, so the interface might be a bit different on iOS 18.

Some people just complain about what others find newsworthy. They should write an article about that.

Not that hard to dismiss a notification...just sayin.

It shouldn't be there to be dismissed in the first place... just sayin.

Look.. here's the thing that folks like you just aren't seeing. Blow this off as no big deal, and they gradually add another ad. And another. And another. Next thing you know, you'll spend 5 minutes of every hour dismissing unwanted notifications. "Give them an inch, they'll take a mile." There's a reason why Apple's very own developer guidelines explicitly FORBID doing what Apple themselves just did. It's a double standard and they need to be held accountable for it.

I use both Android and iOS. Both are really good at this point. Now, both with Ads.
On Android, you can turn off ads, cut out ads from individual apps, block something. And it's done trivially and quickly. ;)

People can be concerned about more than one thing at a time. Just because something bothers you doesn't mean it is de facto the biggest problem in your life.
People can also not give a damn while others give too much of a damn. That’s a choice we all have and i could not care less about apple letting me know i could save $10 🤷‍♂️

It would be one thing if apple was ripping you out of your apps and showing full screen banners of brad Pitt shirtless in front of a sports car telling me to buy tickets. A small notification? I didn’t even notice it. It’s so unobtrusive that I can’t even get mad about it

No such option on my wallet app. I guess this wallet ad thing is US only?

Yeah it’s all good and dandy but who holds the ruler accountable? Apple certainly won’t hold their own illegal actions accountable, no matter how much wrong the illegal actions are and how many people are negatively impacted by the actions. Apple is their own worst enemy and Apple is very lenient on controlling that for some years now.

Yes that is how marketing works.
Had Apple sell their iPhone 30% lower their current asking price, I think people might be more willing to swallow the ad. After all, google search is free of charge to use but google still is one of the most powerful companies in the world. But nope. Apple raises the product price by 30% AND shove people with ads. It’s like paying $14.99/mo for YouTube premium in order to watch even more ads.
