Can't live without my iPhone so I am stuck until next year when Verizon gets it.

There not getting it. VZW said it themselves they dont want it. Go to Disney and wish upon a star cause thats one wish that wont come true.

Honestly every time I use an AT&T phone it does two things 1) drop calls and 2) switch from EDGE To 3G like an animated gif. Everywhere I go VZW has coverage, I always have an EVDO connection and never has it switched to 1X only. If AT&T could provide GSM Coverage like VZW has coverage I would be happy. GSM is better and more widly In use but NOT in the US. Apple putting an iPhone on CDMA Would hit a large and very valid number of customers innot only the US but north America and parts of Asia.

This topic has been discussed so thoroughly that I don't believe there's anything new anyone could say. The camp that believes it will never happen says CDMA is a dying technology and it makes more sense for the iPhone to be GSM because that's the worldwide standard. The camp that believes Verizon will get the iPhone cites job listings by Apple for CDMA experts and more competition and more iPhones sold.

I tend to believe that the iPhone is set on GSM and that Verizon will never get it, mostly because they've said explicitly that they don't want it because they want their firmware and logo on it.

As for the CDMA exepert job listings... I think that may be more for a netbook in the works. But what do I know.

Yeah we all know that apple doesn't like to keep their new product under wraps and their partner partners mouths shut. There is one particular region cough cough south east aaaahhemmm that IS doing extensive testing of new products on their upcoming network where there isn't an AT&T tower for miles. Butsine apple has made formal announcements something isn't going on

CDMA is stupid because only the U.S uses it and it is dieing technology.

That's simply not true. For one thing, the FCC still requires two competing standards in every market. For another, code division is a far superior and more bandwidth-efficient technology. In fact, GSM intends to move to a new version with code division in the future, but they are still struggling to implement it without treading on Qualcomm's patents (I'm not sure they can do it...).

So if not verizon or any CDMA network for the matter what networks other than AT&T will the iPhone end up on in the US?

I imagine if AT&T doesn't play ball with Apple to keep it exclusive that T-Mobile and Alltel would be the biggest potential alternative carriers. And perhaps some of the smaller regional carriers like Cellular One and Unicell in Maine and the Midwest.

verizon puts alot of restrictions on thier phones. thats why apple isnt there already. cause verizon wants no open gps no use of wifi.

I had verizon for a long time and they have good service. i had no dropped calls in like 3 years. but they are complete ^*&* when it comes to thier phones. they nicklel and dime you for everything. everything they didnt strip that is.

Yes I know this, I work at Qualcomm and I will just say this. Apple has been in house at Qualcomm a few times the last couple of months and guess what they are talking about. I will just leave it at that.

Yes, that's pretty much the definition of a CDMA phone: it uses a Qualcomm CDMA chipset instead of a GSM chipset. The answer is still never.

Believe me, T-Mobile, Verizon, and Sprint are all already talking to Apple. They have been talking to Apple ever since the first iPhone came out. It's just a matter of whether they can come to terms or not to convince Apple that they are better off not having exclusivity with AT&T. Personally, I think that if Apple had not been exclusive with any carrier, and the iPhone had been offered on all carriers, Apple would have sold twice as many iPhones by now ... which would allow them to become the most common smart phone. Do you know one reason that Blackberry is the most common smart phone? Because you can buy a Blackberry on ANY network in the United States. If Apple wants the smart phone market share that Microsoft enjoys with computers, then Apple needs to stop signing contracts with AT&T and get their iPhones in the hands of as many people as possible.

An old and incorrect article. Verizon doesn't prohibit other app stores. They simply plan to only install their own as a default.

Verizon never said any such thing. It's the people on forums that say that :)

Verizon doesn't put any firmware on smartphones, except for optional programs like every other carrier.

When it was offered to them (before it even existed), Verizon said they didn't like the idea of no subsidy, no control over the warranty, and no control over the sales outlets.

Since then, Apple has flipped 180 degrees. They allow subsidies, and they sell the iphone in many types of stores.

personally i think that temporary exclusivity with ATT has helped them. now the other providers will take in the chin per say after seeing the success and being left out.

I call BS. How about this: I'm Steve Jobs' personal assistant, and I'll just say this: Steve said it'd be a cold day in Cupertino before he let Verizon have "his" phone.

Why should we believe you? Why should we believe anyone here? Unless one of you is either the CEO of Verizon, Steve Jobs himself or banging one of the two then there's no way anyone can be certain about anything that will happen. All this stupid speculation is getting ridiculous nobody here knows more than anyone else.

ATT is fine. Big red sucks. The end. CDMA is stupid because only the U.S uses it and it is dieing technology. Im sick of these dam threads.

You have that backwards. GSM is the dieing technology. CDMA is a better tech.

Also 3G network is a CDMA based techology it is NOT GSM. If I remember right even Edge is CDMA based. But the catch is there are two types of CDMA and GSM went one way and CDMA guys went another.

GSM is not a technology, TDMA is. GSM is just a standard for TDMA, and W-CDMA (3G). W-CDMA is similar to, but different from, CDMA/CDMA-2000 used by Verizon & Sprint for their 3G (EV-DO) Network.

As for the OP, the iPhone will not appear on Verizon, until Verizon has switched to GSM 4G (LTE), which is the world-wide standard for 4G cellular operations. Verizon will begin the process starting in early 2010, however they are likely not going to be doing phones with both CDMA-2000 and LTE components, so they will likely not make it widely available to consumers until their entire network has been upgraded.

I looked at there blackberrys and walked out the store lol'ing when the guy said there was no wifi. I'll wait for the palm pre possibly then. Don't get me wrong I like both carriers it's just that it seams every iPhone owner is the biggest AT&T fanboy since the ps3 vs xbox360 and AT&T joined the wireless phone business late and they brag about there 3G network like it correlates to there dick size when it's far from flawless when you compare it to VZWs EVDO/1x never dropping.

iPhone for Verizon?

Hey has anyone else heard these rumors abut verizon getting the iPhone in 2010? I want one so bad!!! I just have verizon though so i don't know what to do...

If we just say it's going to verizon in 2010 will people finally stop asking

I have NO idea what you guys are talking about. I was walking down the street the other day and this homeless guy pulls me aside. I'm all freaked out thinking he's gonna rob me or something, then he utters "The iPhone is going to Sprint man... It's gonna happen. I swear! It's a conspiracy and the iPhone is going to Sprint. Verizon is a decoy! It's just a decoy!!"

So yeah, needless to say, you sheep have been fooled by the Verizon trail. Sorry 'bout your luck.
