Anybody using Insomnia?

Hi everybody,
I'm using Insomnia from Big Boss (download in Cydia) and it looks like this app can keep the phone awake, thus avoiding the problem we all got. It acts like Manny1987 solution but without messing around with your phone files, just turn it on and that's it. Of course the battery draining is increased.

Now I'm writing this for 2 reasons:
1. can anybody else test Insomnia and see if results are the same?
2. on Cydia on the app section it is stated that the Insomnia source is available. Is anybody able (or knows someone able to) to get this source code and have a look at it and at the iphone firmware and see if there is a way to solve the problem?

I know maybe this is just silly, but I thought I'd give it a try. I know nothing about coding...
:)

Any news on this? Am still grateful for this solution but the battery drain literally sucks :)

Imsomnia seems to slightly alleviate the problem on my iPhone but certainly doesn't solve it.

com.apple.SystemPowerProfileDefaults.plist
Then rename it to:
com.apple.SystemPowerProfileDefaults.plist2

I have installed OS3.0 yesterday. So far there has not been a problem. Have it running for about 15 hours.

Yesterday I managed to install the developer kit on my mac and I had a look inside the com.apple.SystemPowerProfileDefaults.plist file of my iphone and another "good" one.
The 2 file are identical. I checked every parameter in both files and they are exactly the same.
If your phones were OK on 1.1.4 can someone post the file com.apple.SystemPowerProfileDefaults.plist inside that firmware so I can have a look at it as well?

With 3.0 the problem has become worse. I tried fixing the problem as described in the opening post (which has worked fine for me on the older firmwares) but now the battery drain has dramatically increased. I can literally see the battery power melt down.
Anyone else experiencing the same ??

Hi,

I'm the original poster for this problem (see other thread). I've been dealing with the issue since January, but it is getting very annoying. The problem is intermittent; some days are worse than others.

I definitely think that iPhone OS 2.0 and 3.0's "improved" power management feature is incompatible/buggy with the original iPhone...Also, since the problem seems to be rather "rare" among the users, Apple hasn't taken any action yet.

Could someone provide the original FW power management file to :Rob: so that he can take a look at it?

Thanks.

Hi,
I upgraded to 3.0, battery life sucks not to mention the phone is always really really warm and well... the deep sleep problem is always there.
I tried to down grade to 2.2.1 w/out success. :(
****
I managed to download FW 1.1.4 ipsw from the internet but I do not know how to open it and find the "com.apple.SystemPowerProfileDefaults.plist" file.
Any help? I'm on mac OSX 10.5.7, Thanks.

I will try to downgrade to earlier FW. I can not get the fix done on 3.0 without having a catastrophic increase of battery draining.

I downgraded to 2.2.1 !!I have not altered the files yet. It's been one day without any issues now. I guess it will come back though !!

Hi triklops,
good news for you.

My phone is currently bricked and cannot restore 3.0 with itunes 8.2.1 I'm having error 1600 and 23 (find out more https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/749580/)

I'd like to try to downgrade as well to see if i can solve the problem. Can u please tell me how u did that?
thx lad,

Hi Rob...I also had the 1600 problem !!!
What I did was downgrade my iTunes. I'm not exactly sure what version it was but I think it was 8.0.1 .
You can download old versions here :
http://www.oldapps.com/itunes.php

What I did then was put the iphone in DFU mode and restored it to FW 2.0.2 .
From there I the upgraded it to 2.2.1 !!!

It runs like a charm now. I use the classic iPhone ("2g") and its just no comparison to what it used to be with 3.0 !! The only downside is that I don't have the sms functions I used to have in 3.0

Hope I could help you !!!

By the way :

Still no issues !!!! As I said I have NOT changed the files yet !! Absolutely incredible !!
I hope the problem will not come !! That would be great !! If that's really the case I don't think I will update until I get a new phone :)

Cool triklops and good to know.
I solved the 1600 issue last week-end after a week of struggling so I'm not going to try new stuff right away on my phone.
Before that problem I flashed the baseband of my phone with bootloader several time locking and unlocking the phone and I was able to achieve 3 days without "the problem". Let see what happens to yours...let us know.
;)

Hi triklops,
So all you did was upgrade to 3.0 and then downgrade back to 2.2.1? You didn't do anything else? It's great to hear that your phone is finally working without this issue!

I guess I need to try the downgrade to 2.2.1...ever since I changed the power management bundle, the deepsleep is gone, but my battery won't last more than 4 hours.

Well, I have found a fix for the camera crashing issues in a different forum. I'll post it below...

I went to the root folder of the iPhone called "DCIM" and saw a folder called "101"... digital cameras use folders in the DCIM directory for picture storage. In the 101 folder were a bunch of files ending in ".thm"... I had read from the internet that sometimes the presence of these files without corresponding .jpg files is indicative of some kind of corruption. I deleted the entire 101 folder and lo and behold, the photo app and camera app now work properly.

I can confirm, i went into SSH, deleted the .thm files in my folder and my camera amazingly enough, works. No more crashing. Now just got to figure out the battery drain issue.
