This also fixed my battery drain and deep sleep as well...I switched my power management settings back to original and I'm all good. What a relief.

Cool stuff!! What Fw do you use and what version of the iPhone do you have??classic or 3G?

Yesterday the problem reocurred for the first time since downgrading on July 21st. That's one month without issues.
I hope it stays in that rhythm although it makes me feel bad to know that this problem might come up sometimes.

Well, I guess I made a stupid mistake.
I was sick of new apps not working on my 2.2.1 and so I gave the new firmware another try and updated to 3.0.1 !! Voila, it's been about 14 hours now and my old problem appeared again.
Maybe I should have copied the powermanagement from the 2.2.1 before I upgraded ?? What do you say ?
Anyone who got rid of the problem by downgrading to 2.2.1 as well ?

Hmm, so triklops, the problem reappeared after 1 month because you updated from 2.2.1 to 3.0.1?

Currently my iPhone 2G is 2.2 (5G77), and I've been living with the deep sleep problem.

Maybe I should give 2.2.1 a try (if it allegedly fixes the problem). triklops, let us know once you roll back to 2.2.1 and wait one week to see if the problem returns.

Yeah, with 2.2.1 it only appeared once and that was after more than a month without any problems.
Now that I switched to 3.0.1 two days ago it already happened 4 times.
I will propably go back to 2.2.1 or wait for 3.1 to try my luck.
I guess I was lucky with the 2.2.1 . I don't think it solves the problem on all devices and I don't think it will always work for me.
Stupid me....updating to 3.0.1. without at least backing up some files.
But with the older FWs some apps won't work. That's kinda annoying as well...:(

I have used the solution explained in the first post of this thread with 3.0.1 .
While having experienced a very fast battery drain with this method on FW 3.0 I have now waited about an hour to see what's happening with the battery. Almost all of this hour the phone has been in standby-mode. The battery went from 94% to 92%. Looking good. With 3.0 it would have sucked the s*it out of the battery even in standby mode.

Here we are a couple of hours later. The battery has dropped to 51% .Before going to bed I was browsing the App Store for a couple of minutes. After that I played civilization revolution lite for some minutes.
I let the iPod-function play for 45 minutes (set the timer).

I think the battery drop is just fine!!! It did not suck it up!! I hope it stays like this! No deep sleep so far!

Since the last post I have been surfing via Wireless Lan nonstop with a couple of visits to AppStore and Cydia ! The battery has dropped to 19% . i think that's quite good considering the phone has not left myhand :) that's 32% in 90 minutes

The battery drain has become catastrophic. I think it's safe to say that this thread's solution does not work on FW 3.0 and following ( at least on my phone) without eating up the battery

3.1.2?

Just got this
https://www.macrumors.com/2009/10/08/apple-releases-iphone-os-3-1-2/

This update contains bug fixes and improvements, including the following:

- Resolves sporadic issue that may cause iPhone to not wake from sleep
- Resolves intermittent issue that may interrupt cellular network services until restart
- Fixes bug that could cause occasional crash during video streaming

Is this update going to address the problem? Hope it can help.

I cannot test my iphone felt in water and I'm iphoneless :(
No budget to get a new one for the moment.

I have recently updated my 2G iphone to 3.1.2 and started having this problem, thus found this post. (usage and standby shows "-" as the photos shown by OP) I am wondering could this fix fixes something for certain hardware but at the same time broke something for other hardware?

Updated to 3.1.2 and having an increased battery drain!!!! Lost 75% in about 7 hours!! All I used was an 80 minute Podcast

Hi guys,

Correct me if I'm wrong. But, do you really need to edit any file any file to prevent the iphone from sleeping? I have the deep sleep and the camera issues on my iphone 3g from 6 months now after I dropped it in water. My trick is Settings > General > Auto-Lock > Never. That drains up the battery rather quickly of course.
I'm gonna try the camera fix that I mentioned in this thread and follow up with results.

Thanks a lot.

Well, I have found a fix for the camera crashing issues in a different forum. I'll post it below...

I can confirm, i went into SSH, deleted the .thm files in my folder and my camera amazingly enough, works. No more crashing. Now just got to figure out the battery drain issue.

I don't see any .thm files. I did a search in the entire file system starting from /

Any other ideas?

Thanks

OpenSSH/WinSCP into Iphone then go to:
\System\Library\SystemConfiguration\PowerManagement.bundle

Find the file:
com.apple.SystemPowerProfileDefaults.plist
Then rename it to:
com.apple.SystemPowerProfileDefaults

now this is where it changes from EmNat's Solution

Look for the file PowerMangement, should be in the list where com.apple.SystemPowerProfileDefaults is and rename to PowerMangement.plist

Now you can close the window and reboot your iphone.

the problem increased

my iphone is now "NO SERVICE" :(

- already I tried to restore
- i tried to come back toward the original archive

but not resolve this problem!!!

iphone 2g
firmware 3.1.2
modem 04.05.04_G

HELP ME PLEASE!!

same problem with you

seems this problem appear when I upgraded to 3.1.2.

Does any one find a solution except renaming the PowerManagement plist file?

Interesting read. Are only people with the original iPhone experiencing this problem? No reports of people with 3G/3GS encountering this?

It's especially interesting because when 3.1 came out, there were ALL SORTS of reports of iPhone 3Gs going to sleep and then not being able to come out of it. (There was also a huuuuge thread on Apple's own discussion boards.) It seemed to only affect a subset of (very vocal) iPhone 3G owners, and quite a few of them experienced this problem even after a complete restore of the software and setting it up as a new phone/not restoring their backup, only to finally take it to Apple to have it replaced and then never experience the problem again. This seemed to suggest that it was part hardware, part software...certain specific iPhones would have the problem with 3.1, others would not. Bizarre (and irritating, especially since it seemed to affect a good-sized group of people).

Where the changelog for 3.1.2 describes a fix for a "sporadic issue that may cause iPhone to not wake from sleep," I am sure that this is referring to the "3G coma bug" as described above, and, unfortunately, even though the symptoms sound nearly identical to the problem described in this thread with original iPhones, my guess is that the root cause is different and so is not fixed by 3.1.2.

I had the deep sleep on my G2 (3.2.1) installed Insomnia with Cydia and now the phone works fine! :)

Hello everyone, rename this file is the same as insomnia, the battery is out in 3.5 hours, I solved the problem with cydia> pushmod> config.> push> select 1 minute and go. every minutes iphone awake to see if there are emails, . Callers can expect at most 15, 20 seconds, but will ring, I'm sure. The battery also out fast, but can stand about 12, 14 hours, and works even without email set, and even without 3G connection or wi-fi. try it . I hope that solves your problem!
