No, I agree. I just think fanboys of either side are ridiculous... however Apple has a long history of having smug fans and you have proof of that from Guy Kawasaki's evangelism marketing.
Isn't there similarly a long history of criticism (vs Apple) which more often then not turns out to be incorrect? No, not every Apple idea, product, or service has been "genius". But the Macintosh, iMacs, iPods, iPhones, iPads, have literally changed the world - where the functional analysis provided on them pointed out key weakness and deficiencies that would result in their failure or hard cap their adoption to minimal levels (i.e. Apple fans only). That is to say, Apple's products have been and continue to be stereotyped as novelty items - which just is not correct.

I think it is not undeserved when a competitor (or critic) that was previously critical gets some 'smug' remarks from Apple fans after something shows up that tarnishes them. e.g. Adoption of something previously unthinkable: Dropping Adobe Flash support, introducing a phone even thinner and even lighter then the existing iPhone, introducing an all-in-one design PC, a fullscreen phone with "a notch", no user-replaceable battery, no SD card slot, no headphone jack, exploding batteries, lower performance, etc

So much crap gets tossed at Apple and their customers - Apple and fans can't be a little smug when there is something to laugh at?

All these benchmark tests are a load of rubbish.
Seriously, who cares what the numbers from a particular simulated test comes to? Real world usage is what affects users at the end of the day. Just choose a handset and be happy!

To me this is not news or even noteworthy, when an Android phone out performs the iPhone, let me know. That's when it'll be interesting.

It should not even be brought up at all.its a first gen firmware on the gs9 with a brand new custom cpu architecture with zero apps that have been optimized for it.

This is true. However the optimization will be to low-level portions that deal with the processor (like the scheduler), not to Apps.

The point is moot anyway, since these App races are flawed tests anyway. So why argue about which is faster when doing meaningless tasks?

We get you. It's only meaningful when iPhone wins.
Straw-man. But I agree and in the past have agreed. These tasks are meaningless, but it is interesting to know how the processors fared in speed tests, even though for the most part, speed of the processor is only one factor in everyday usage of the phone.

Because for the past 2 years everyone gloated on how well optimised iOS was and has gone to complete trash lately

Samsung on the other hand is hitting home runs with every new update.

The speed of the processor aside, apple has taken longer with ios 11 to get things straightened out, but this isn't unique to IOS 11. IOS 11.3 should be a nice feature update and bug fix update.

iOS 11 is a bug. For some reason when I turn off Wi-Fi or Bluetooth in my control panel, it’s still ”on.” ;)

Edit: I love how this triggered one person, and prompted another to *almost* inaccurately describe how the feature works. Bless their hearts.

It’s actually deliberate that it stays on (at least the Bluetooth) I have an Apple Watch so I can “turn off” Bluetooth via the control centre and it’ll stop scanning for new bluetooth devices, but it’ll stay connected to my Watch or even my car for instance. The WiFi toggle idk wtf they are trying to accomplish, I have yet to see a purpose for that...

Still slaughters any Galaxy or Note device out there.
But drops apps like hot potatoes, and opens apps as fast as a two year old galaxy, sometimes slower.
Not my definition of slaughter.

Then again, if I were to decode 4k video on my 2k phone, I might feel a bit different...

The note 8 and galaxy s8 have better ram management and open most apps faster.

Ram management was iOSs strong point and the x cant even hold half the apps the galaxys hold now.

Mainly due to Samsung devices now having 6GB of ram

Still more than any iPhone

It shows how well android are judging their software to devices. Huge improvements in even 1-2 years

iPhones need more ram period

No, because iPhones do not run Google's ad-dispersing, data mining software, aka Android, which has been resource hungry since its conception, and continues to be to this very day. Samsung, Huawei, LG...and others are not putting more RAM in your little green robot just because they love you, but because they know your phone needs a lot of it to even run properly.

Clearly it does need more on the iPhone as it consistently refreshes apps

Not an issue for most but for tests like this it does

They don't have better RAM management - they have more RAM.

You can't compare a device with 3GB RAM to one with 6GB RAM and state one is better because you don't know how either would perform if they had the same amount of RAM.

interesting how comments on android fan sites are now saying "but performance doesn't matter anymore"
Lol so true. If this results really are the same in the units shipping out, Samsung did a very bad job. I own the iPhone X and Galaxy S8 plus. The iPhone is just much faster. I tried to unpack a zip file on both phones, and the X was much faster. Around 2min to be precise. And i can’t imagine why the demo units should have such a bad optimized software. But we will see.
