I'm not surprised, with all the bloatware and crap they put on Samsung phones it will only be a matter of time before the S9 becomes laggy. The iPhone may be expensive but i've never had an issue with it and Apple are able to maintain both the software and hardware which is why i'll stick with iPhone.

Let's be honest, as much as Apple is close to my heart, I have to admit that iOS 11 is a disaster. Yes, updates have fixed much of bugs, but Apple should have never released such problematic OS. I hope, and I am very convinced, that iOS 12 will show once again why there is nothing, and there will never be OS like iOS, and iOS 11 will very soon be just an ugly memory. I really do believe horrible bugs in iOS and security flaws in macOS have been the wake up call for Apple.

Samsung's S9 has a headphone jack. It has a fingerprint sensor. For people, who like fancy technology, there is this amazing slow motion. There is no notch. And it costs only 2/3 of an iPhone X.

On things, that are usefull to the user, Samsung is ahead of Apple. Apple will need probably 2 to 3 years to admit that FaceID is something, which is useful only for a few people, but far more people would like a headphone jack.

Yes it's not been perfect but i personally cant say as I've had issues, that being said i do think that this year they will be focused on fixes and less bugs there is even a report from the very reliable Bloomberg that Apple will be doing just that. i do think that Apple have made a mistake and will learn from it, Samsung doesn't control the software instead they add bloatware and Touchwiz which over time makes the devices more and more laggy, i'm just not an android fan and even with Apple making a mistake with IOS 11 i still think it's better than Android.

Look at that pathetic FaceID attempt from Samsung! Just look at it! Why would they try so desperately to copy it, when you say that FaceID is unnecessary? And look at those two huge bars at S9 (let's call it chin and forehead). How is that less annoying than iPhone notch? You people never cease to amaze me.

3.5 mm jack got removed for the same reason as VGA ports on laptops got removed: it is not needed when more advanced tech is here. There is no need for fingerprint sensor when you have FaceID, which is more secure than fingerprint.

Have you been hiding under a rock? Face ID is VERY popular most people love it Apple themselves have said as much, as for the headphone jack yes some people would still like it to be there but it's not essential especially since Apple's AirPod's are also VERY popular.

Also this isn't good at all "sponsored app placements"

It's not a disaster. It works just fine.

Edit:

You have chosen your words poorly. It is as far from disaster as North Korea is from democracy.

While I've never been a Samsung fan, if they get DeX right I might get one. You can dock your phone and get a full linux desktop environment that's really snappy. Latest chrome browser, video players, twitter / messenger / skype / whatever you use. All the apps I use for leisure and work on OS X are available for linux, so I could probably replace my laptop in many cases (as there are often monitor / mouse at the locations I drag my laptop to). You can even use the phone as touchpad / keyboard so really only a monitor needed. This is a massive plus on the samsung side imo, think it will be ages before we get a dockable iPhone running OS X.

God this all seems so childish to me, especially when the phone with the 'victory' only has it by the smallest margin. For me, it will always come down to iOS vs Android, no matter what the hardware is like, and I prefer iOS, case closed. I'm sure those that prefer things like iTunes and iMessage and having more games and apps that are supported much better on their app store will agree with me. While those that prefer to flash stuff and get their geek on by rooting their phones or whatever will prefer Android.

That's running full linux. Watch the video. FULL LINUX DISTRO. With FULL ECLIPSE. On a 2k screen res output. On a phone.

Plus even the standard Microsoft office apps have been developed to take advantage of dex for a full pc like experience and games like the new final fantasy.

So? Windows won the desktop war. Mac came in second and Linux is so far behind it’s not even funny.

People still use the 'its got no headphone jack' argument...? Wow. To be honest, I never really understood the issue anyway. I still use my wired Bose headphones with my iPhone X, now how do I do that I wonder...? Hmm. OH I remember, because there's a small adaptor included in the box of every iPhone that doesn't have a jack which allows you to connect them!!

That's never going to happen on iPhone let's face it :D

Ask developers. Ask web and python coders. Then get back to me.

And, err, you do know what platform OSX is related to and based on, right? ;) it's a POSIX OS, just like Linux. Try opening your terminal.

Every modern smartphone has more performance than 99% of all users will ever need.
just like how bill gates said: "640K ought to be enough for anybody."
...
right?

Being a satisfied Mac user I would not consider myself an Android fan having migrated to a Samsung Galaxy S8 having been an iPhone user for many years. I found iOS performance to be below par hence I switched to Android which I have found to be noticeably faster.
Aside from which the S8 Display is stunning and battery life to be vastly superior to that of the iPhone 6 from which I migrated.
I am only speaking from personal experience. Not an iOS fan or Android fan but an individual who has used both platforms.

iphone 6 and s8 are three years apart. you're essentially saying a much newer phone is much better than your old phone

Again, so what?

I code. There’s no way you’re going to convince me any serious developer is going to use a crappy underpowered phone to develop on. You’re just trying to find a use case for a garbage product.

Are you actually going to waste money on a monitor, keyboard, mouse and DEX dock and leave them lying around for the rare time someone shows up with a phone to hook up to them? What a waste of hardware and desk space.

Realistically, Apple is playing the specs game on their iOS devices to a point where it doesn't even matter anymore - the chips are super fast, faster than the competition, but it's all horsepower wasted on simple games and apps.

It's not to defend Android here, even if looking at benchmarks makes me wonder why Qualcomm's latest chip fares so (relatively) poorly, but I'm amazed to no end why we care so much about chip performance on devices that benefit very little from such advances.

Apps launch faster, games have slightly better frame rates, but they still run whether you have an A11-powered iPhone X or a iPhone 6 from 3 years ago.

disagreed. lots of websites on my iPhone 6+ scrolled extremely bad (and this was before iOS 11).
[doublepost=1519993381][/doublepost]
Does it really matter?? Do people look at there phone screen all day running benchmarks? lol . Very sad if its true

no, but i look at feeds a lot. Twitter on the iPhone X still doesn't even scroll smoothly.

but it has the fugly chins. notch > chins anyday.
and the headphone jack debate is over. wireless audio is here, especially with airpods. once a flagship phone removes the jack, it'll be very unlikely for next year's version to reintroduce the headphone jack.

Benchmarking the phones.... Jesus we really got numb in the brain.
Who cares, It's a phone for crying out loud.

How about benchmarking the prices of these devices? (Cost per phone vs monthly income all placed in an actual need for that power horse of a phone)
Seriously, am I talking like a grandpa here? But sometimes I really feel that these companies design overkill devices for basic tasks.
Portable devices, the future of computing.... it makes no sense.

Steve clearly said that we should not care about the device we are using - it will be just an extension tool. He started on that path - but people considering that Wearing technology is a cool trend started to hang on Tech Specs and Benchmarks and end up using a Smart Device in the Most Dumb Possible Way.

Maybe i am miss-understaning the direction of technology here. I may be very wrong about this but as of this moment, benchmarking phones is like lecturing in front of a hedgehog about quantum physics.

tell that to the people that complained their iPhone 6 is too slow.

tell that to the people that complained their iPhone 6 is too slow.

Yeah I can tell that to myself because I have an iPhone 4s which is too slow as well...

Every 3-4 years I say it's normal to change a phone... I wouldn't hang myself upon a benchmark results.
In 4 years iPhone X who beats Samsung now will be slow again....

All I am saying benchmarks are irrelevant overall. At least for now.

The competition will never catch Apple in performance, no matter what specs they throw at it. Ultimately, hardware won't matter as much in the end. It all comes down to software, apps, security, privacy, ecosystem, and support. This is why many don't stray from Apple.

Perhaps a fair argument but I have friends who have the iPhone 8. I have played around with it and it was based on what I found that concluded me to try out Android with the S8 and thus far three months in the Android experience has been faultless and noticeably faster than iOS running on the iPhone 8 when trying it out.

Except Bill Gates didn't say that.

The difference in your comparison is in @chris1958's comment. He stated "every modern smartphone", which in 2020, will include those current devices. I agree that many users won't find any discernible difference in smartphone performance.
Then perhaps you would like to explain this
What does market share have to do with performance? That data also doesn't state how many migrated from Apple.
Yes, But the S9 has...has..nevermind its a turd.
Ah, the obligatory condemnation of a device one has never touched. I see Android users stating similar things about the iPhone. ;)

interesting how comments on android fan sites are now saying "but performance doesn't matter anymore"
Please give specific examples. This is a blanket statement.

DEX is complete garbage because Android Apps are garbage (there aren't any good Android tablet Apps so why would you even want to run them with a keyboard/mouse and large monitor).
care to elaborate more?

Yes, you can put out a ton of cheap junk and get market share. This was Google's plan from the beginning as they need those users to support their advertising business. If you prefer a platform that exists for the sake of advertising, so be it. I am good on the other side.
