Yes, and that looked really, really uncomfortable to me--as in there will soon be a new form of repetitive stress injury for thumbs everywhere, thanks to the X.

It sure was weird.

I’ve been using the iPhone X since debut, and have had a sore hand/wrist (unable to open doors, lift light bags, even drive) all day. Girlfriend is an occupational therapist/hand therapist, and said it was the beginning of repetitive strain injury.

Just put two and two together that it’s this damn phone and its gestures (only thing that’s changed in my daily routine in 12 months).

I'm seeing many objectionable things about the X in the Apple demonstration. This phone will get a big "no thanks" from me.

That black tab at top: yuck. Face ID looks slow.

Easy to pass on this one. I sense problems galore.
Enjoying your Android phone are you? Clearly you don't have and have never used an iPhone X. The phone is what it is - a flagship iPhone. Face ID is fast, and as quick as I can pick up the phone and swipe up, it's already unlocked. So, get some facts first before you go harping on like a senseless fanboy.

I am waiting for battery life. If it has more battery, that would be a major selling point.
If this thing had any more battery I wouldn't need a charger. OK, I exaggerate, but compared to my SE and on my usage, this thing has got serious legs.

Hahaha!!! Yeah right, so using a phone for a few days caused RSI? Nothing to do with age or the years of typing this kind of stuff at keyboards all day?! lol

OP, now that the X is un the wild, have you changed your opinion?

There were things I didn't like in the X, but found them to be overblown and not major issues, such as the notch. I think its one of the best phones that Apple has made.

Boring?

This unveiling tops even the original iPhone announcement. iPhone X is just incredible in every way - beauty, features, experience, security and fun, fun, fun.

Wow man. Really? Put the original iPhone next to the X. You know what you'll see: one has a tall skinny screen with a hi resolution display and better camera... But the bottom line: they both have the same old grid of icons. The software is effectively exactly the same.

...aaaaaaand we have exactly the reason people like iPhone. Teething issues aside with any new update, the OS is familiar, stable, easy to use, and just works. Apps are well optimised for it compared to Android, and coupled together that's why people stick with it. None of this skinning malarkjy and endless tweaking options.

I never really understood the dislike for a grid of icons, although you are very far off by saying the software is exactly the same. iPhone is a platform to use your apps and get your information, what other type of set up are you looking for? Apple has the most straightforward approach to this. I do think at some point they will get creative and change up the approach, potentially with an AI based solution that presents apps and such at different times of the day when it learns you, but I think Apple will wait until it makes sense. Personally, I don't see the need for weather widgets or app launchers on my home screen just so it looks different.

[repost]

Yeah, for me, the "home screen" = an application launcher. I don't need anything else, my Macs have big open desktop areas with a Dock of icons on a horizontal grid at the bottom, my Window machine has a big open desktop with a menu of *squares* icons - in a grid - to launch apps. I don't spend significant cycles knocking around in the app launching space, I find the app I want (sometimes via a search), launch it, and +THEN+ I engage in the applications specific user experience. It's consistent across devices and effective.

Well said.

Two weeks later and I wonder if OP has changed their view.

Not interested in reading through all seven pages to find out, though. But the majority of reviews have deemed what she was allegedly afraid of a non issue.

I'm not a die-hard user of smartphones like most, but rather, my laptop, and I loose quality sleep, because I'm always on youtube.

It's the most exciting iPhone that Apple has released in awhile. Will boredom eventually sink in? Probably. Apple will milk the X design for 2-3 more successors. By 2019, people will complain it looks the same for three years in a row.

Eventually, I got bored of 2015's Galaxy S6 edge design after thinking it looked amazing. It's like wearing new shoes before they become worn out. People want new all the time even if nothing really changes on how they use them.

Threads like this one- where people express their opinions without any actual experience- are always amusing to revisit after the release of the actual product.

Yesterday I had an opportunity to play with the X for about half an hour.
I will try to make it very simple.......the best damn phone ever.....and let me repeat that again....
THE BEST PHONE EVER!!!

What does everyone expect, phones have reached there saturation point so don't expect huge changes.

I’m actually having this issue too when using it one handed. I find it’s not as bad without a case but still an issue.

Good news is I get to keep my existing phone, no "upgrade" desire.

Yeah, let 'em get the kinks worked out--and get rid of the distracting top notch.
Never thought of it this way, but yes! $ave Money!! I'm keeping the older model as it looks more modern than the X. (I still cannot get over the fact it looks like the Samsung, almost exactly, except less attractive)

Yes agree with this - the notch even looks cool and distinctive usually to my eye now. There are times when the awkwardness of text around it does ruin that though.

Overall, most of the new features are beta-like novelties I'm finding (AR stuff for example), but the phone itself feels great and looks great to the extent of making my partner's 7+ seem extremely dated. The camera is okay, still a bit overrated in low light, but I've got some properly good shots otherwise.

It's a step forward for sure, but in no way exciting.

The display will blow their minds. I really think it will.

You’re right on the money, my friend.

By the way, I am using an iPhone X and typing this reply on it right now.

My gripe:
1. To be honest, I was a bit underwhelmed by the keynote and thought that I would just skip this year’s iPhone as I would usually do. I always go for the original supercycles instead of the S iterations. I mean, come on, Animoji is definitely not a feature, let alone to be featured on a keynote like that. Sure, it’s cool to talk with a chicken’s face but seriously, it’s a novelty at best.

2. And I told myself that the OLED screen wasn’t a big deal since my iPhone 7 Plus has an excellent screen despite being LCD and I was hoping that the X would have a 120Hz display like my iPad Pro but it didn’t, so I lost interest. I didn’t care about OLED because Samsung always make a big deal out of it but it seems like it not a feature that can persuade me to buy any product with an OLED display just for the display.

3. Now, I depend on Touch ID. I love it. I love it so much that I wish my car has Touch ID, my Macbook(which it does now), my everything! Face ID was cool and all but to DITCH Touch ID for Face ID was a big blow for me. It’s not really about the security per se, but the convenience. I have the habit of clicking the home button while laying my finger on Touch ID while taking the phone out of my pocket and it works 90% of the time. Sure, it’s not flawless but it’s convenient. At first, I couldn’t imagine Face ID being able to completely replace the convenience of Touch ID that I have come to know and love.

4. The price disappoints me solely because I was expecting a 120Hz display and maybe, I don’t know, Apple Pencil support or something game-changing like quad speakers on an iPhone, or sapphire coating on the display or ceramic material used on the body somewhere, or USB C instead of lightning, or maybe a customised iOS just for the X that sets it slightly apart from the other iPhones(and I’m not talking about the gestures), or FREE 50GB iCloud storage privilege for X owners, or special accessory support or IP68 waterproofing or something... something!

5. Fast charger not included. Since Apple designs their own chip, why can’t they design a special fast charger that is compact just for the iPhone like how Samsung and other companies have done for their phones? Qualcomm fast charging is a great technology that if Apple were to have something similar, I would buy any Apple products that has it.

Now, DESPITE iPhone X leaving me longing for all of these things, I went into the store, saw the X standing there, glowing in OLED perfection, staring at me, and lured me into picking it up. I don’t remember what happened next but here I am with an iPhone X. Now what does tell ya about the phone? Bewitching.

P.S, I have an iPhone 7 Plus and SE, so now, I carry 3 phones wherever I go. It’s great!
