I am having a lot of trouble hearing phone calls, and scratching on speakers sometimes. Ugg hate to have to do any exchange, but I must be able to hear my boss while talking to her! It was very muffled sounding. Then she called back the screen was unresponsive! Could not answer! She was like- what is up I thought u have new phone??

Have heard noticeable crackling near max volume when using Apple Maps. Pretty disappointed after how good the speakers on the 2016 MacBook Pro were.

Are you trolling?? How can any phone compare to a MacBook??

But anyways. I exchanged today and the issue persists.

Sounds like it may just be equalizing audio wrong. Treble wayyyyy too high on everything. Similar to the iPhone 8 cracking issues?

There’s no way apple could release millions of these phones that intend to sound like this.

I figured it would still be on the new one. I wonder why it seems like not many people are reporting this issue. I’m still going to exchange mine but I’m 99% sure it won’t fix anything.

Yeah. I feel like I’m crazy or insanely picky when I know I’m not. The 7 Plus and 8 Plus I had sounded incredible at any volume playing music, podcasts and calls

This X sounds awful in every scenario even at lower volumes to be honest. There is no umph so to speak. Hollow, tinny and overly treble.

Cracking picks up at 80-100% volume.

I really don’t want an 8 Plus because I do love this OLED display and Face ID is amazing so far

I’m experiencing it on my new X, but my colleagues who have the X aren’t. Changing EQ settings seems to have no effect.

The annoying thing is I’ve already had a replacement from Apple because the case was dented, and my first one didn’t have this problem.

A colleague recommended using some compressed air at a good distance to loosen any material that might have gotten in during manufacture, but I don’t want to risk causing damage to the speaker grill.

8+ has speaker crackle issue, especially with secondary sound to a background sound. Apple knows. Happens with playback & apps. Could be similar issue. From what I can tell, it’s software.

Are you trolling? I'm not comparing a MacBook to a phone. I am comparing two products that are both recent and from the same manufacturer. I am not expecting the iPhone X to have sound quality comparable to a MacBook Pro, but to have a comparable improvement over older iPhones as the MBP did over its predecessors.

Fair enough

It may be.. I changed my EQ to "treble reducer" and it definitely helps.

I hope they address this publicly

I have the same problem, I notice this problem also when I try to reproduce at 80%-100% the classic iPhone ringtone ( I think it’s called Aperture) it’s the same for you ?
Yesterday I went to an Apple store it seems that the other iPhones x had the same problem but there were too many persons to judge exactly. I’ll wait until Thursday to see what happens, if all the iPhone X have this problem probably i’ll get a refund, I paid this phone 1200€ It’s unacceptable for me.

Same here guys, iPhone X 256gb, I listen to a lot of music on the speakers of the iPhone X and i noticed the slight crackle right away, since so many of us seem to experience this crackle then my assumption is that its software related rather than hardware.

Yet I have not seen a single apple blog or outlet report on it. Somewhat concerning

I have been wondering this for past few days, I tested my iPhone X side by side with 7 plus, crackling sound is very apparent with the X especially with louder music and songs that has more bass (like rock music). so to the OP, you are not the only one.

Do you guys think that perhaps the speakers on the iPhone X need some breaking-in and the crackle would go away by itself after the speakers have a few hours of playing music/audio on them

I have the same problem, mostly when I watch videos of people talking. At around 70-100% volume. It’s this buzzing sound, I thought I was the only one. I’m not sure if I should bring it back to Verizon and ask for a replacement phone. I feel like it would have the same problem. It doesn’t really happen when I play music. I first noticed it when I watched how I met your mother on Netflix it was very apparent. If anyone figures out what’s wrong, please post your fix.

This is volume level dependent, it looks like hardware defect/issue.
Probably the only way they can "fix" it , is to reduce the maximum volume by 20% and call that 100%.

The 8+ crackling was another thing, it was present on all volume levels during calls, it was a codec issue from my understanding.

On the X, even loud phone calls produce that distortion, and calls/audio playback have different audio paths. Only common part is the actual hardware speaker.

So yeah, Apple is such a piece of crap these days when it comes to attention to detail/QC ...

I don't have this problem (yet). I tried blasting music at full volume and a YouTube video, nothing. I did have the 8+ earpiece issue but this seems different? Can you recommend a song / video where you get this so I can try it?

I seem to hear it most clearly with a podcast or someone speaking. Try a few of those perhaps.

Yes. i notice the same problem. I called tech support and spoke with a supervisor for over 90 minutes explaining and expressing my concern and was told to go to Apple and they can take a look and reset the software and maybe that’s the issue and if not Im within the “14” day return policy. But i don’t want that i want my phone fixed!!!
Also she said I am the first one to complain about this. So maybe if everyone calls AppleCare we can get the ball rolling.

Hmm. So early this morning I blasted some rock music at full volume and didn't hear anything, same with a YouTube video. I just opened my Sirius XM app and started a talk show I usually listen to with intro rock music and then 2 people talking. I do not get any popping or crackling on mine. I covered up the bottom speaker with my finger to try and single out the top speaker and vice versa.

Yes, or a call on speakerphone
Will try actually speaking with someone on speaker phone after work. But I called my office line that has an automated recording and blasted that, no issues. I left a voice mail and played it back over my voice over IP app with speaker phone on max, nothing abnormal.

Just wanted to give an update to my speaker issue. After a few days of playing music and YouTube vids. The crackle was gone. I would listen to things with the volume just below max. And now max is perfect. It almost would seem that the speaker just needed to be exercised broken in a bit of some sort. Sounds crazy I know, but my speaker is perfect now on max volume.

I might try that later, if not I’m gonna bring it back to Verizon for an exchange. Was the crackling apparent at high volume before you tried your fix?

I notice it more during phone calls :/
I noticed this last night while I was on the phone with Tmobile and I was connected to my home WIFI. I was very concerned but thought it might have just been that particular call since I haven't made many calls yet to notice if it is consistent. But it was very painful on my call last night. It was loud and kept occurring throughout the call.
