Piano video has some crackle to it, but I think it's because it's a crappy youtube video. I'm streaming some very treble-heavy music from Soma.fm (Secret Agent Man channel). High vocals and no crackling. Calls have been fine for me too. Crackling in calls could just be poor cell signal. Shrugs.

Just used another x for the first time other than mine and his front speaker is solid. And he hears my issue.. our issue. So let’s see what happens when I go to my appt Tuesday
Yes please let us know how it goes... I don’t think they’d be able to hear it in the main Genius Bar store front area on mine.

I just played Wu-Tang Forever (2 disk album) on full blast, and it fixed my issue..

I think this thing just needs to be broken in. Weird

I'll see how it is in the morning

So only our phones need to be broken in?? My friend got his a day after release and his phone is perfect and solid sounding.

I’ve been dealing with Apple over the last two days trying to sort out the problem out.

After speaking with an Apple specialist on the phone for about 45 minutes, they confirmed that it shouldn’t be doing it and told me to go back to the Apple store and ask for a replacement. When I went to the store they asked me to make a Genius Bar reservation, which ended with the genius telling me it was “within factory tolerance” and I would have to pay for a repair.

Now I’m back to talking with the specialist who I spoke to on the phone.

A $2000 phone should not have a manufacturing tolerance that allows such noticeable speaker distortion. I call BS.

Right I agree. But what replacement will they give? Cause the tech supervisor i had spoken to said if I send it back to Apple they will send a “certified replacement” which is that phone Apple gives you that’s new but not quite “new” if you don’t know. It’s a recycled phone that’s “passed” inspections and certifications yada yada. i know I’m not the only one that thinks we should get a brand new replacement.

Hmm I’m not sure, I should probably ask about that next time I speak to them. If they offer a refurbished model, I think I’ll just return this one for a refund and buy another when they’re abundant.

Yes I’ll be sure to update. My appointment is at 6 pm. So I will let you know later. But I will fight for a brand new phone.

Guys have you actually tried breakin-in the speakers by playing music at full volume for a few hours? That might just fix the issue, it fixed it for me.

That’s a big negative. That should not be the thing to do. I want Apple to recognize this issue and address it properly. It’s a $1300 phone. Should not need a “ break in”

But thats just how things work. Do you want Apple to break it in for you before selling it to you?

The post above mine. Can’t miss it.

I can’t replicate the level of distortion from that video clip with any ringtone, with the volume maxed.
I tried that vid. Yeah I do see the problem. Because using a different piano video I don’t have any sound issues. I believe it’s the treble within the video itself that is high.

it fixes also the crackle in some ringtones at full volume(for example 'Apex')?

Yes

Speakers in general have a break-in period when purchased new and that goes as a general rule and the speakers on the iPhone X are no exception, Companies that produce speaker products usually break-in the speakers to some degree at the factory but it doesn’t seem to be the case with the iPhone X as it seems to require a manual break-in

Just for the record I do agree this shouldn’t be necessary for such an expensive device

An excuse to Play Wu-Tang at full blast? I'm all in :D

It’s loud but bass response is lacking , I guess I’m expecting too much from such a small speaker lol

Oh yeah, no doubt. Even our Braven has a touch of bass punch vs. a phone. It's more about just some background music in a noisy (and wet!) environment, not really much about fidelity (save that for the main home setup) :)

For $1300 on a phone that’s promoted to the nines and the fact that it’s knl some phones and not all phones. Yes 100% my speakers should be at a solid sound upon purchase

It’s weird, but it worked for me. My guess? Complete guess, is that in order to get more phones to the masses at launch they skipped that part of the fabrication process.

They just exchanged my phone.. but I did buy it through Apple. Did you not?

Either way, try breaking it in.

Yup, me too. I've accepted it. It is pretty remarkable how loud it can get.

I just didn't want it to rattle to hell for music I play regularly or voice w/ podcasts.

Problem is resolved for me.

Start the break in at 80% for 10 mins, then 90% for 10 then do the full 100% for AT LEAST 30 minutes
