Had the same issue... reboot using this method. Fixed it.

How To Hard Reset / Force Restart iPhone X:

Step 1: Press the Volume Up button and then release, followed quickly by pressing and releasing the Volume Down button.

Step 2: Now quickly press and hold the Side button until you see the device’s screen turn off, followed by Apple logo showing up on the device.

Step 3: Once the Apple logo appears on screen, release the Side button to complete the force restart cycle.

Same issue as well and a reboot fixed it. Funny my 6 plus did the same thing, thought it was Touch gate. A reboot fixed that too.

Also I know people with iPads including myself that does the same thing. Unresponsive to touch.

seems like when I go outside my screen doesn't register all the touches (temp in 40s), but that only seemed to happen in iMessage. I am using iOS beta 11.2
I was having similar issues in similar temperature. Can't wait for winter and see how this thing performs.

Hi, I just joined to let people know I may have a solution to this. I had exactly the same problem, my iPhone X was completely unresponsive to touch and I couldn't get past the Lock screen. I tried hard rebooting about 10 times – no difference. So I took my SIM card out to put it in my old iPhone 6, and then tried to shut down my iPhone X by pressing VOL UP, VOL DOWN and then holding the side button. However, that rebooted it. Lo and behold when my iPhone X rebooted, it was responding to touch!

So - for me - removing my SIM card and rebooting the phone caused the screen to start responding again. Since then it's been working perfectly (2 days now).

I'd be very interested to know if this works for anyone else!

Thank you for posting this solution, it oddly worked. I also updated to 11.2 beta. I have a feeling this is still a software bug. Will keep you posted.

Add me to the list of people that have a iPhone X with the symptoms you all are/were having. This has happened to me at least 5-6 times now. Each time, the screen will start working out of the blue again.

I've tried hard resetting numerous times without success. Last night when the screen stopped responding to touch, I essentially gave up on trying to fix it. I left the phone alone, unplugged to anything. By the time I woke up hours later, the screen was magically working again. I had not touched my iPhone X physically since going to sleep.

About 30 minutes ago, my iPhone X screen stopped responding again. I tried the method as quoted, but without success.

I am also on iOS 11.2 Public Beta 2 if that helps.

I have already set up an appointment with the Genius Bar tomorrow.

What the hell, I thought mine was a one off until I read these notes. Screen was working fine just before bed, woke up this morning, couldn't swipe to turn off my ****ing alarm. Wasted 30 mins trying to restore, back up, and hard resets. Didn't fix it. Tried to take out sim and place back in - didn't work. Gonna pop into apple store today without an genius appointment. They better just fix it!! >_<

if it comes and goes, could be a software bug right? i think if its something wrong with the hardware then it would not suddenly be working again

Just an update for you all. I took the phone to the apple store after having it for <24 hours. They basically couldn't run diagnostics on it because the multitouch wasn't responsive. They had no idea how to diagnose, nevermind how to fix. Ended up getting the iPhone exchanged with a brand new one. Took about an hour in store - bit frustrating, but I'm happy they fixed it (not the solution to the problem, but the problem that I didn't have a phone)

This is screengate... . They could not offer a loaner phone because they said they weren't sure if this was a hardware or software issue.

The software is from Apple. The hardware is from Apple. Why does it matter which is the problem. Some of the excuses Apple comes up with ...

I'm also having an intermittent touch issue, though I've never experienced the whole screen becoming unresponsive. Sometimes a section on the lower right edge, by the backspace button, becomes unresponsive and weird. I have to touch well within the screen edge for it to register. Also, when it's like that, scrolling gets super erratic when my finger is on that spot, and it jumps and skips all over. It "feels" like a sensor hardware issue, but it goes away if I turn the screen on and off again.

I’m having issues too with my silver 256GB X. Unresponsive to some touches, and lots of “ghost touches”.

Most noticeable when scrolling through a webpage or Twitter. It’ll start to scroll, then stop. Sometimes it’ll click on random links or images that it thinks I’m touching. My ghost touches seem to mostly happen in a narrow band (left to right) in the middle of the screen.

Thought it could have been my case, but I took it off and it still does it.

Had the same problem with my wife’s phone. Worked for a few hours whilst setting up in the pm. Then next morning worked for a couple of hours, after which it then became unresponsive. So not quite DOA, but failed within 24 hours of firing it up. No intermittent recovery here.

It’s obviously not a one-off.

I’m not so much annoyed that there’s a manufacturing fault, more the fact that Apple don’t seem in any hurry to get me a replacement unit. (Quoting 22/11 at the moment).

My thoughts exactly, it's most likely a software bug.

The only constant solution I found is to force reboot the iPhone as many as 10 times. It will eventually work again.

Hi all here you have one from Sweden that has the same issue. The touch sporadically died on me for quite some time when I walked to work this morning. Did not register for taps or swipes. It went "on & off" for a while, registering like a third of my touches to the screen. Turning screen on and off again fixes it. It is pretty cold and humid outside now (around 5C). I'm guessing it is software issue but I took it to the Apple center here in town today and a technician has started to look at it. Will report back when I know more.

Because a software defect is way easier to resolve for everyone (Apple and the customer) than a hardware defect (which usually means a warranty claim/phone replacement). One is a HUGE hassle and the other is a simple iOS update.

I just went into the Apple Store today after experiencing the issues of this thread.

I brought my iPhone X in with the screen currently working and the Genius did a series of diagnostics and asked questions about the issue, etc. He eventually allowed me to swap my iPhone X for a "new" replacement. Currently setting up my new iPhone X in the Apple Store. Want to make sure it works before I leave the store. ;)

I highly recommend anyone experiencing issues to go into the Apple Store, save yourself the headache, and just get yours swapped!

Here’s what my screen does. This is trying to paint lines from the top to the bottom of the screen on the screen shot editor. Total dead band on the middle of the screen.

Genius Bar appointment scheduled. iPhone X, 256 GB.

I never updated, but my X display was totally unresponsive to touch out of the box. Definitely a hardware issue. Took it to Apple on Saturday (11/4) and they replaced it.
