Every single device is outdated by the time they are released. Technology is advancing at a rate that they're already looking into a better model by the time you get yours. Same with vehicles.

My only issue is that Apple did not give us the best modem available.

That's my qualm.

These are such radical design changes. How can anyone expect to compete with such innovation?

Do the same thing with a black/space grey iPhone 6,6s,7,8,X and they all look identical. Those Samsungs phones actually look different. People who say you can't really do much with phone design when the front is all screen are kidding themselves (all phone manufactures have completely different designs compared to each other). Personally I'm really tired of the current iPhone design. Apple are just playing it safe.

I still buy it of course as the design isn't the most important feature and I can't really see myself using anything else.

I think with the iPhone X, Apple is going for a timeless classic design rather than the most modern. Does that matter so much on a device that lasts two years though? You can still drive a 1960's sportscar and it looks amazing but no one is going to be using an iPhone X in even 5 years.

One design element that I particularly like about Samsung that Apple has yet to achieve is that they have done away with their camera bump.

Apple going for that notch design means it will be at least 5 years like that hardware & software wise.

Agreed. It will be around for a few years then be removed.

I highly doubt the notch will be adopted across the industry for content creation which means eventually it will be removed and apples spin team will eventually market it as innovation.

The 6,6s,7 and 8 are similar with the X looking unique and distinct. The Samsung phones also mentioned look similar.

iPhone X design already outdated. Check out all the new 'bezeless' phones coming out that have even less bezel and bigger screen/ body ratio. Not to speak of the ugly notch.

Just really makes me sad. I was hoping to be blown away by Jony Ive and his team to switch back to iPhone again yet my Galaxy S8 that will be half year older when iPhone X comes out will still look better and more state of the art than Apple's phone. And I'm sure Samsung's S9 (or X or whatever they call it) will be even sexier.

'X' looks clunkier compared to S8's slimmer design and uniform look. And X's chrome frame reminds me of diners for some reason and will look even uglier when scratches appear.

Apple going for that notch design means it will be at least 5 years like that hardware & software wise. One of the dumbest decisions Apple made lately along to use lightning port on iPhones but USB-C on everything else and creating a big dongle mess.

I wonder what happened to Jony Ive. Apple was leading design innovation in every of its product categories and to me now it's just the MacBook Pro's and iPads that are great. But iPhones lag behind while they should out-innovate everybody design wise too.

I actually like a little bit of bezel. I do not like the way the display wraps over the edges on some Android phones. It bothers me much in the same way it bothers me when images and text are too close to the binding in a book or magazine, and they start to fall off into the crease. It just looks terrible to me and bothers me far more than the notch in the iPhone X.

Grab a iPhone 6 case and it will work on 6, 6s, 7 and 8. It'd say they are pretty much the same. The X has the same form factor with a few extra mm on the X and Y axis and new paint job. It's like comparing the sport Apple Watch 38mm with the stainless steel 42mm one.

edit: Mind you, I will buy the new "X" next year. It will probably look like a iPhone 6 as well. I'm starting to get over it. 😛

The fact that Apple recycled the same old basic antenna/band/side design for this "all new" phone which basically has the design language for at least the next 4 years is really ughhhh.

Same sides on the iPhone 8, fine, since it's year 4 of that body style. Same sides on the X and therefore the next several phone, ugh. Should've given the X a truly all new design.

It’s not about the cases, the phones while sharing similar dimensions look different. But I agree put a case on a Samsung or iPhone and unless you are familiar with the models, it would take a keen eye to tell them apart.

I agree with you on most of the point you make but this post around here is like preaching the benefits of consuming meat at a vegan convention - they ain't listening!!

Slightly disagree, the newest model doesn't make it "Better", most consumers could care less what's releasing next once they purchase the latest piece of tech. That's not their mindset, unless you're someone who is into tech, which the the Majority are not. How the consumer decides what's a better model, is based on what they can afford for price And what they appreciate the device has to offer To meet their expectations.

I am not sure why we entertain these threads, but I have to disagree with you. I think the X is far and away better looking than anything out there. Everything else looks like cheap plastic with large bezels. Certainly not outdated in any way. All other phone makers moving forward will look to mimic Apple's design. Not sure what you are seeing, but okay. I guess don't buy it and move on?
Come on you cant be serious, from the front even the biggest Apple fan can admit the S8 plus and Note 8 look way nicer then the X. Not saying the X is a bad phone but nobody with any sense of design could honestly like the notch on the X, its just plain ugly. That being said it's still a step up from the archaic looking iPhone 8 plus.

I like the distinction and identity that the notch provides. I don't find it ugly. But maybe thats me being the optimist. Just as the glass is half full the notch is providing a little extra screen that otherwise wouldn't be there. Does it look better than the S8 or Note 8? I think that's up to the individual. IMO the iPhone X is a very good looking slab of glass.

I am serious, the X is the better looking phone to me. Completely subjective of course. I don’t like the chins of the s8/note or how the screen corners curve into a not curved bezel. Looks weird to me. Infinity screen looks bad in use also.

And having both a chin and forehead on other competitor phones look ridiculous.

You may hate the notch, but others can also appreciate the engineering involved in the X’s display.
Chin and forehead have been on smartphones for years. Have you been saying they look ridiculous ever since the first smartphone was released? I bet when Apple removes the notch, you'll be saying I don't see how anybody could want such a ridiculous looking phone. #teamnonotch

Yes, when the X came out, the large chin and forehead looked very dated. This will always happen with design. Same applies for if they can remove the notch at some point. They might. Or they might keep packing more and more tech into that space. Either way, design moves on, and older products look dated. It is what it is.
