MacRumors conducted a brief poll on Twitter today that asked all of our followers to select which iPhone X color and storage capacity they plan to pre-order later this week, and the results are now in.

iphone-x-quad.jpg

As a refresher, the iPhone X comes in Silver and Space Gray, with 64GB or 256GB of storage for $999 or $1,149 respectively.

The most popular iPhone X was Space Gray with 256GB of storage, which was the model of choice for 39 percent of respondents and very likely could be the configuration that faces the tightest supply at launch.

Historically, many customers have always opted for the iPhone in some variant of gray or black with the most storage available. Last year, for example, the model in tightest supply was the iPhone 7 Plus in Jet Black with 256GB of storage.

The runner-up was the Space Gray model with 64GB of storage, which received 30 percent of the over 6,500 votes received. Combined with the 256GB model, Space Gray was the color of choice for just over two thirds of users.

Silver was the less popular choice. 14 percent of users said they plan to pre-order the 64GB model, while 17 percent are leaning towards the 256GB model, in that color. Of note, this year's Silver model has black front bezels.

Customers looking to pre-order any iPhone X for potential launch day delivery may have the best luck choosing the Silver and 64GB combination, but that's assuming that Apple has the same number of units available for each configuration.

While the poll results are interesting from a high level, they aren't very scientific. We don't have any demographics about the users who voted, and it's impossible to say how many respondents will actually follow through with a pre-order.

iPhone X pre-orders begin Friday at 12:01 a.m. Pacific Time. The first deliveries to customers and limited in-store availability begin November 3.

Excellent news. I might be getting my Silver 256GB in less than 2 months.

Yeah 64GB is more than enough for me. I’m so glad that the Silver 64GB is the least popular haha I hope this secures my launch day delivery!

I can easily fill up 128GB, but I don’t need EVERYTHING stored locally. I have iCloud storage and a 1TB iMac.

Just curious what people use those 256 GB of storage for? Considering it is a “pocket” device vs a main workstation and all the music, videos, etc. can easily be streamed nowadays.

This has been discussed many times recently.

For me, things can't always be easily streamed. That's fine when you are at home or travelling with reliable wifi or 4G, but go away for a while, without those things, plus probably taking pictures/videos, and 64gb isn't enough.

The story mentions that the Space Grey iPhone 7 with 64GB of storage was the runner up in popularity last year. That's quite a feat since there was no Space Grey model. I intend to buy the Space Grey iPhone X with 256GB of storage. Although that one had the most votes by itself, at least 61% voted for some other model, so hopefully I won't be competing with too many people on the 27th. I will be up to place my order about 15 minutes before Apple starts allowing preorders. I did the prequalify yesterday, so hopefully that will speed up the process.

64 Gb is more than enough for me. I can understand how some need more storage based on how much media they have stored, but I personally can't justify the price point for 256 GB.

I was wrong when I said silver iPhone X is the first black front/white back iPhone since the 3Gs. Sorry, 5c. I always forget about you. One of my Uncles has that 5c color.

I'm not hating the 5c. I just think it's the ugliest of the entire iPhone line. That's not necessarily a bad thing. I find "ugly" underrated and "pretty" overrated. Looks fade. Performance lasts. My Pixel had the ugliest rear and I loved that phone.

Silver X is the first black front/white back using glass. The third panda color option but first to use glass rears since 4/4s never gave us that option or the 8 series. The throwback option to the Gen 1 iPhone designs (2007-2009) with the chrome bezel sides.

The space gray X just doesn't do it for me. It's the matte black HTC One M7 all over again or slate 5. No bling to the metal band. I don't hate it and would still get it if they were the only ones left. I'm not picky. But its too much like the jet black 7 / space gray 8.

It's why l like the Sega Dreamcast so much. Off-white didn't attract fingerprints like the glossy piano black PS3 phat. Glad space gray is winning but highly doubt any online poll represents what will happen in real life next week.

SHOCKED! lol

Here's a clue. Whenever there is a high end product, Apple customers will overwhelmingly want the high end product.

Saves you a poll next time.

People before the poll results: I’m going to get the space gray iPhone.

People after the poll results: Well let me take a second look a silver. Oh it doesn’t look that bad. And looks like there isn’t that much demand for silver either. I’ll get silver.

People after iPhone X launch: **** I KNEW I SHOULD HAVE GOTTEN SPACE GRAY.

Lesson - DO NOT BUY THE 256 GB SILVER iPHONE X

Shhhhh let them change direction lol it’s all good Silver looks nice yeah everyone go check out Silver haha

Last year, I wanted the silver V20. Has enough black borders on the front. I ended up getting a titan (matte black) instead because T-Mobile only offered it in that color. Then I considered getting the unlocked V20 (US996) in silver but read it lacks two bands. I also didn't like the B&O logo on the back. Ended up just keeping the T-Mo variant.

Just really not picky with colors anymore. The space gray will be fine with me if those were the only ones left. But white, silver, or gray really does hide smudges the best. Putting it in some TPU case will just hide its looks and could scratch the glass with dirt getting stuck inside. I also like how the white back shows the camera hump. It becomes more distinctive from afar you are holding an iPhone X.

iPhone X in Spaces grey looks fantastic
I like the space grey/gray myself. The silver looks kind of white in the photos. At first I thought I would get the silver since the front is no longer white, but now I think I'll like the space gray more. One sure way of knowing wil be to see them in person on display which I will in Vegas since I'll be going there for a few days a couple of days after release.

64GB is a non-starter, so I can ignore 44% of the votes immediately. Now the interesting thing is, I wanted the silver to begin with. So hooray?

I wonder if they are referring to the band around the side instead of the back. All the photos I have seen show a white back and silver band. The SG is like a weird dull black color. Darker than the SG MacBook Pro. It is a shame we don't have more better photos showing the difference.

I actually would like a shade of space gray that's darker than the SG on the 5s/SE. It's possible the X SG may be too dark or it may look good, I'll definitely have to see it in person first before I decide. No pre-orders/orders until I see the two colors.

I’ll be preordering whichever one is available for launch day pickup. Could care less about color 256gb is a must tho

Honestly, the silver will likely be more beautiful. I have never liked the Space Grey stainless. 256GB Silver, here I come.

Plus, you can actually buff regular stainless like the the watch, though that puppy will be in at minimum a bumper.

Is the stainless steel band the same in both color variants? In the photos, the band on the space gray model looks a bit darker than on the Silver one.
No, like the watch, the stainless looks like black stainless, just like the watch, especially after that last on-hands video from the Apple Campus.

If only Apple provided a middle capacity at 128GB. I would still get the 256GB, but it would definitely satisfy the needs of X buyers better. Maybe production breakdown could've been like 25% 64GB, 40% 128GB and 35% 256GB.

I've changed my mind to the silver. I was always tempted to get a white iPhone but the bezels were a turnoff. Not an issue with the X!

amazing how many people are willing to pay a fortune for something even if its not what they want just to be able to say they have the hot new gadget on launch day. Here's a novel thought, if they don't have the size and color you want, then WAIT. Is it that hard to do?

How do you feel I like both and there both sexy so I’m happy with either? Lol so it’s winner winner chicken dinner come 1:01am Friday morning

So, for pre-order day, ill only be able to order a phone from the carrier I currently have? Im on T-Mobile and was interested in pre-ordering a Verizon iPhone X full-price, but my friend told me id only be able to get a T-mobile iPhone X. That doesn't seem right to me ...

Isn’t that what iCloud is for? Think of it this way. You’re spending and extra 10 a month for 256GB by to Dan get 200GB of iCloud storage for $2.99.
