i am not sure what to make of this, but i also think that the size wont really be obvious until you see the phone in the case. here is a side by side

This doesn't look lined up, but it is. Now a part of me is thinking I will like how it will fit in my pocket easier, but then the more I think about it, I'm a guy, my old phone fits just fine, I want bigger. Bigger is better, that is what my brain is telling me, but when I opened my case and put it on my phone I was like, meh.....

A lot of people have been saying that the notch at the top of the X makes the "usable" display area smaller than that of the Plus. But looking at this photo here, if you shift the X higher so that the bottom of the display lines up with that of the Plus, it looks like the height of both displays is about the same, even discounting the notch.

For me, I consider the X a definite downgrade size-wise from my 7 plus

Only if you include bezels in your measurements. This is so ridiculous.

...why? Your screen...you know...that bit you actually use...will be the same size.

Hmmm.. I've always had the 6 Plus/6S Plus/7 Plus and now 8 plus in my hands. I'm comfortable holding it and using it. Once in a while I've contemplated on testing out the 4.7 inch iPhone 8 but I just can't do it. I just can't. It's way too small for me.

Now while I patiently wait for the Sim-Free Model to come out. I may visit the Apple store near me (I live right next the store) after the party dies down at the store and hold it and test it out before I make my final decision whether or not the iPhone X is the right side. I do like the fact that it's 5.8" (or is it really 5.8"?).

If you knew, why were you shocked? That doesn't make sense. If you weren't truly sure about the size, all you had to do was hold a iPhone 7 in your hand.

I agree that it might take a little getting used to a iPhone 7 size form again if one has been using a plus size form model. That is understandable. But, to be completely shocked about the smaller size when one has been reading the forum and watching videos, that doesn't seem very logical to me.

Again, knowledge vs. experience.

You can be right about this if you want to, though.

As a current 7 Plus owner, seeing this picture makes me happy. I'm ready to get rid of the phablet phone. The only thing I'll miss is the great battery life which will be fixed since the X will be charging all the time in my Qi stand charger at work.

Just picked up my new case from Best Buy in preparation of my iPhone X coming Nov 3rd, and although I saw the picture comparisons, now that I'm holding my iPhone X case next to my iPhone 6s Plus, the iPhone X is small and a little disappointing. I guess I’m wanting an iPhone X Plus with a 6.5 or 7’ screen. This is bothering more than the notch!

Just wait for the iPhone X Plus next year

So...you want bezels? You aren't losing anything as far as screen size is concerned, so it must be the bezels you'll be missing.

There has been a ton of discussion, analysis, and videos about this. The display of the X is taller than the Plus, but not much wider than the non-Plus. So depending on your preferred aspect ratio and the content that you view, the display may feel smaller in some ways.

Basically, compared to a Plus, the screen of the X is tall but narrow, whereas the Plus is a bit shorter but wider.

I understand that, I just relized after I put my new case on my current iPhone 6s Plus, I want a bezel & notch free iPhone XII with a 6.5"+ screen. I use my phone as a tablet too in a way, so I don't want the same size screen, I want bigger! For those like me, when they get their new iPhone X, the size is going to mess with their brain a bit. Hopfull all the other inprovments they have made since my 6s Plus will off set that disapointment for me, but the biggest feature I want is screen size.

Folks complaining about the size of the X just seem to be in love with the bezels on the Plus models. They certainly aren't losing any screen real estate.

Well, I just explained what the difference is, and nowhere in that explanation was anything about bezels. Some people prefer the wider portrait aspect ratio of 16:9. It has nothing to do with bezels, the lack of which some people seem to be obsessed with. The plus sized iPhones simply have wider screens than the X.

The thing you have to remember is that is a picture of the home screen.

Go into safari for example. There is a bar below the notch as well which is kind of weird.

I’ve been playing with it a lot in the iOS simulator.

By how much? Give us the actual dimensions without including bezels...including those alongside the screen on a 7 or 8 Plus. That's your claim. Back it up.

Back up the fact that the Plus has a wider screen? It's a physical fact. The measurements can be looked up anywhere, even on Apple's own site. The X has an aspect ratio of 18.5:9 while the Plus sized iPhones are 16:9. Obviously the height has increased more than the width.

Whether or not that's a good thing or a bad thing is entirely subjective. All I'm saying is that some people prefer a wider screen to a taller one.
